Commenced as a cottage industry November 1989, by Igor Van Gerwen, who came to Australia from Belgium. Igor was trained by Roger Geerts, the world renowned confectioner and author of “Belgian Pralines”.

In 1991, Anvers was born after a Japanese businessman ordered 3,000kg of truffles as gifts and pre-paid to enable the development of a facility to produce them.

Anvers Confectionary guarantee the quality of their products by painstakingly training staff in the art of manipulating and only using the finest ingredients with Tasmania’s cream and butter ideally suited for truffles and . Products range from handmade chocolate truffles, chocolate oranges, fudge to moulded pralines.

Anvers are a 100% owned and operated company using Premium Belgian Style Chocolate and adding creamy Tasmanian dairy plus locally sourced natural flavours and fillings.

Anvers Signature Dark Couverture Chocolate is 64% cocoa.

Fortunato N0.4 is couverture chocolate made from the original Nacional Cacao tree thought to be extinct after the commercial crops were wiped out by “witch’s broom” in the 1920’s. The Cacao tree, the Peruvian Nacional, has been re-discovered growing at a height of 1000 metres in the remote Marañón Canyon in 2007 and has since been genetically certified by the Department of Agriculture. In my 30 years of searching for different varieties of single origin chocolate, I have never tasted a choc- olate this intense in flavour. The distinct assertive floral aromas and exotic fruit flavours make this the pinnacle in chocolate. This couverture has a very long finish with caramelised nutty accents; to me it is the Holy Grail in chocolate. I have invested in this chocolate so I could be part of the redevelopment of this ancient crop and I want to share this experience with you. 15 ANVERS CHOCOLATE FACTORY

The House of Anvers caters for all . We are situated directly between Devonport and Latrobe on the North West Coast of Tasmania. Opening at 7am for breakfast, visitors can sit back in our cafe, stroll through the chocolate museum, view our working factory area and finish in our tasting centre where you can sample our range of handcrafted chocolates.

Our garden conservatory which is capable of seating an extra 50 guests bringing our total capacity to 100 seats throughout the property. Entry is free and our signage is clear with ample parking available to suit all vehicles, caravans and motor homes.
