There was a lot of electricity in that stadium. - Joey Jones, Head Coach South Alabama (2014) THE GAME Named after the Alabama state flower, the Camellia Bowl is a college football bowl game that annually features a representative from the Sun Belt Conference against one from the Mid-American Conference at the historic Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. The game is televised live on the ESPN family of networks. THE HISTORY Cramton Bowl featured the first football game in the South to be played at night – Cloverdale High versus Pike Road High in 1927. The Raycom Media Camellia Bowl is one of 13 postseason bowl games owned and operated by ESPN Events, an ESPN division based in Charlotte, N.C. ESPN Events owns and operates a large portfolio of collegiate sporting events worldwide.
Cramton Bowl is also formerly the home of the Blue-Gray Football Classic college football game. The Alabama Crimson Tide played home games in the capital city at Cramton Bowl from 1922 to 1932 and in various years through 1954. ATTENDANCE FIGURES
