The growth of Mangalore University since its inception has been impressive. The VKRV Rao Commission has described Mangalore University as “A University with a

Difference”. Today, there are 215 affiliated degree colleges, including three constituent colleges, and five autonomous colleges. The constituent colleges include the 145 year old former Government College at Mangalore and the Field

Marshal K. M. Cariappa College at Madikeri, which were taken over by the University from Government of Karnataka

3 in 1992 and the recently started University First Grade

College at Mangalagangothri.

The University First Grade College Mangalagangothri was started in Mangalore University campus to help students residing in the nearby rural areas to get higher education. The University strives in every way to create an education friendly atmosphere in this college. Apart from studies the students will also be provided opportunity to showcase their talents in the college and outside. The College has a good library useful to students. The students are selected on the basis of the University Statutes, Rules and

Regulations.

Principal 4 MANGALORE UNIVERSITY Regulations Governing Credit Based Semester Scheme for Bachelor Degree Programmes in the Faculties of Arts, and Commerce (Framed under Section 44 (1) (c) of the KSU Act 2000)

The Salient Features of the Credit Based Semester Scheme : Each course shall carry certain number of credits. Credits normally represent the weightage of a course and are a function of teaching, learning and evaluation strategies, such as number of contact hours, the course content, teaching methodology, learning expectations, maximum marks etc. In the proposed programmes, in general, 2 hours of instructions per week in a semester is assigned one credit. In terms of evaluation, one credit is equivalent to 50 marks in a semester. On these basis, a three year degree programme will have a maximum of 100 credits. The other features of the Credit Based Semester Scheme are a) The degree programmes are structured on semester basis. b) The relative importance of subjects of study and activities are quantified in terms of credits and also their overall relative importance. c) The subjects of study include foundation courses, general studies and interdisciplinary subjects. d) The programme permits horizontal mobility in course selections. e) The students are required to take part in co-curricular and extra curricular activities and their participation is compulsory as a part of the credit based system. f) The curricula and question papers are unitized. g) The declaration of result is based on the aggregate percentage of marks obtained as well as on Grade Point Average earned.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION : B.A., B.Com., B.B.A. A Candidate who has passed the two years Pre-University Examination conducted by the Pre-University Education Board in the state of Karnataka or any other examination considered as equivalent thereto by Mangalore University is eligible for admission to these programmes.

4. SUBJECTS OF STUDY : Subjects of study shall comprise the following a) Group – I : LANGUAGES : The candidate shall opt for General and Communicative English as compulsory subject and one of the languages listed below : Kannada, Hindi, Additional English

b) GROUP - II : OPTIONAL SUBJECTS i) B.A. : Sociology, English, Economics (SEE) ii) B.Com : Compulsory Papers : Principles of Management, Economics, Financial Accounting, Business Law, Financial Management, Business Statistics, Banking, Business Taxation, Computer Application, Cost and Management Accounting, Auditing, International Trade. iii) B.B.A. : Compulsory Papers : Principles of Management, Accounting, Business Organisation, Business Mathematics, Commercial Law, Marketing Management, Income Tax, Corporate Accounting, Business Statistics, Modern Banking & Management, Computer Applications in Management, Organisational Behaviour, Project Management, Export Management and Cost Accounting.

6 c) Group III : i) Foundation Course (common for all courses) : (i) Constitution of and (ii) Human Rights, Gender and Environmental Studies shall be compulsory subjects, alternately, in the first and Second semesters.

SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS 1. The fees for the application form can be paid at Vijaya bank or State Bank of India situated in the University Campus . Go to the College submit the chalan and get the application form. 2. Separate applications have to be filled for B.A./B.B.A/ B.COM courses 3. Application forms should be filled completely. Prior to filling the application form, please read the rules of the College. 4. Incomplete applications will be rejected. 5. Along with your application, photocopies of the following should be submitted. Original Certificates should be submitted only at the time of admission. (1) SSLC marks card (2) PUC marks card (3) PUC Transfer certificate (4) Conduct certificate (5) Reservation certificate (6) SC/ST and category(1) are to submit Caste certificate and Income certificate.

7 (7) Physically challenged students should should submit the relevant certificate and write PC in the application form. 6. Completed applications along with photocopies of the relevant certificates should be submitted on or before the last date to the college office during working hours. 7. Students who have completed their Pre-University course in states other than Karnataka are required to submit an Eligibility certificate and Migration certificate.

8. No individual intimation would be given regarding admission to the College. The admission list will be put up in the College on the said date. It will also be annovnce on the University website . The students will have to look up this list and come for the interview on the date mentioned by the College.

9. Any influence or pressure brought during admission will be considered as a disqualification.

ADMISSION/INTERVIEW 1. Students should come along with their parents for the interview.

2. All the original certificates should be submitted at the time of interview

3. Original copy of transfer certificate , conduct certificate, reservation certificate should be submitted at the time of interview. (In case the students need copies of the

8 above certificates for future use, they should make Photostat copies).

5. If the student is found eligible for admission during the interview, he/she should pay the full fees at Vijaya Bank, Konaje or State Bank of India Mangalagangothri Branch. A copy of the Chalan of fees paid should be submitted to the College Office.

6. At the time of interview three passport size photographs of the student have to be submitted to the College.
