Hotel Faena Universe - Double & Single - Park View - 2 Nights Faena Hotel Universe is within El Porteno Building, a Buenos Aires landmark, built-in 1902 with bricks brought from Manchester to store the grains that would cross the ocean to feed the world. At that time, Buenos Aires was the “barn of the world” and also “the Paris of South America”. Conceived to the very last detail by Alan Faena, and designed by Philippe Starck, it features 90 rooms and 83 residences inspired in the stunning glow of the Belle epoque. The first and second floors shelter the Universe, an area that fosters the interaction among guests and visitors. Faena Hotel Universe began as a dream: to recreate the Belle epoque and bring it back to Buenos Aires, establishing a new way to experience everyday life. Due to its unique style, there is no front desk. Instead, guests are welcomed by an Experience Manager, whose mission is to make their dreams come true and to even exceed their expectations. Buenos Aires City Tour With Lunch (5h) You will see the symbols of Buenos Aires: the Obelisk, towering above 9 de Julio Avenue (the world`s widest street), the Colon Theater, the French Embassy, and different squares, such as historical Plaza de Mayo, elegant Plaza San Martin and the financial district. The history and essence of Tango will fascinate you in the traditional neighborhoods: La Boca, San Telmo and Montserrat, with its antique markets on Sundays. Stroll through the elegant neighborhood of Recoleta and trendy Palermo. Finally, you’ll visit Puerto Madero, the most modern part of the city. The area was Buenos Aires' former port and has been completely transformed with luxurious skyscrapers, a yacht club, a variety of first class restaurants and the Women's Bridge. Lunch is included. Welcome Dinner Dinner at La Parolaccia Restaurant in Puerto Madero (including half a bottle of wine per person) DAY 2 (B,L) (Late Evening Snacks and Drinks, Milonga Houses) BUENOS AIRES Thursday, 15 October, 2020 Asado Adventure (5h) The idea is to participate in creating a typical weekend family Asado (local bbq) that Argentina is famous for, but for foreign visitors to Buenos Aires. Your local guide will take your group (semi- private, no larger than 10 people) to the butcher shop, the bakery, and the wine store, all the while walking the cobblestone streets of Palermo Viejo, just like a local family would do. During your walk you'll also learn about the beautiful murals that line the streets and the local artists who create them. You then go back to a large private home (not a restaurant) and help prepare the Asado. It is a first-hand experience of learning how to prep the meat, create the salad, build the fire with charcoal and wood, and all the while learning about the neighborhood (guests might want to jot down the different shops visited for some shopping later). Finally, you'll enjoy a typical Argentine Asado lunch complete with wine, cheese and finish with dessert and yerba mate. The tour is an experience where guests can learn about Asado customs, and learn more information about the city in a very relaxed atmosphere. And you would be eating a fantastic Asado guided by the very capable hands of a master parrillero (local grill master). The tour will run from 10:30 am to about 3:30 pm approximately. Buenos Aires & Its Milongas (4h) To immerse yourself in one of the main Porteño symbols, you will visit two milonga houses where you can experience the true tango air. Enjoy dancing with people of all ages, backgrounds, and nationalities. Visit these milonga houses and have fun till dawn! The tour includes two Tango instructors, and a light snack of "empanadas" and a glass of wine and a bottled water per person DAY 3 (B,L) BUENOS AIRES ‐ PUERTO IGUAZU ‐ FOZ DO IGUAÇU Friday, 16 October, 2020 Buenos Aires-Buenos Aires Airport (AEP) Your guide will escort you today to the Buenos Aires Domestic Airport (AEP) for your departure from Buenos Aires. The hydrological year begins in March with a maximum in June associated with rainfall and another relative maximum in October derived from snow- break. General features of the rainy season and the excess or deficits thereof are analyzed using standardized precipitation index (SPI) for a six-month period in the basin. The SPI has a significant cycle of 14.3 years; the most severe excess (SPI greater than 2) has a return period of 25 years, while the most severe droughts (SPI less than −2) have a return period of 10 years. The SPI corresponding to the rainy season (April–September) (SPI9) has no significant trend and is used to classify wet/dry years. In order to establish the previous circulation patterns associated with interannual SPI9 variability, the composite fields of wet and dry years are compared.

MACCHI1, & PABLO H. VIGLIANO1,2 1. Grupo de Evaluación y Manejo de Recursos Ícticos, Centro Regional Universitario Bariloche, Universidad Nacional del Comahue, Bariloche, Argentina. 2. Instituto de Investigaciones en Biodiversidad y Medioambiente, Universidad Nacional del Comahue, Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas, Bariloche, Argentina ABSTRACT. The present structure of the fish fauna of Patagonia has been influenced by natural processes and by the introduction of exotic fish with varying purposes. An analysis of the introductions between 1904 and 2011 in relation to 54 drainages showed that the differential success of salmonid species introduced into Patagonia is related to human actions, environment, evolutionary history and plasticity of the introduced species as well as to their abiotic and biotic interactions. Throughout time shifting policies have lacked clear goals and mandates, ultimately producing management actions and strategies rarely based on actual knowledge. In recent years two broad general management goals have emerged, conservation of native fish and economic growth through development of salmonid sport fisheries. Despite of the growing number of biological and ecological studies, there is a shortage of specific management studies. This is brought about in part because the different stake holders involved have partial views of the complexity of managing the resource and its fragility, and also due to their limited interaction. Only cooperation and concerted planning among interested parties may lead us to local and regional policies that take into account the above described goals.

  • Transport Infrastructure Improvements and Spatial Sorting: Evidence from Buenos Aires∗ [Click Here for the Latest Version]
Transport Infrastructure Improvements and Spatial Sorting: Evidence from Buenos Aires∗ [Click here for the latest version] Pablo Ernesto Warnes† November 12, 2020 Abstract How do improvements in the urban transport infrastructure affect the spatial sort- ing of residents with different levels of income and education within a city? What are the welfare effects of improving urban transit once we take into account these pat- terns of spatial sorting? In this paper, I study the effects of the construction of a bus rapid transit system (BRT) on the spatial reorganization of residents within the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. To do so, I leverage an individual level panel data set of more than two million residents with which I can describe intra-city migration patterns. I first find reduced form evidence that the construction of the BRT increased the spatial segregation between high and low-skilled residents within the city. I then develop a dynamic quantitative spatial equilibrium model of a city with heterogeneous workers that allows me to quantify the welfare effects of this BRT system while taking into ac- count these spatial sorting patterns. With this quantitative framework, I can measure the average welfare gains for residents that were living near the BRT lines before these were built. I find that welfare gains were very similar between high- and low-skilled workers living in the same locations, but very different within skill levels across lo- cations. Residents living near a BRT line in neighborhoods with the lowest share of high-skilled residents saw welfare gains close to 1% on average, while residents liv- ing near a BRT line in neighborhoods with the highest high-skilled share saw welfare gains around 0.5% on average.
