Katie Noonan, best known as the angelic voice of the band George, brings her unique vocal talent to the main stage of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in early September for three performances only of the timeless love songs of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. As part of WAAPA’s Jazz in the Theatre series, Katie Noonan will perform The Music of Lennon and McCartney on Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 September at 7.30pm in the Geoff Gibbs Theatre. She will be supported on stage by WAAPA’s Jazz and Contemporary Music students. The songs performed will be taken from Noonan’s most recent CD release, Blackbird. Recorded in New York in August 2008, this collection of classic Lennon and McCartney-penned songs has been magnificently re-interpreted by Noonan and her all-star jazz quintet: Grammy award winning saxophonist Joe Lovano, renowned guitarist John Scofield, exceptional drummer Lewis Nash, Grammy award winning legendary double-bass player Ron Carter, and Melbourne-based keyboard player Sam Keevers. Much-loved Beatles songs such as “Here, There and Everywhere”, “Across the Universe”, “Eleanor Rigby” and “Michelle” are brought to life through Noonan’s enchanting voice and musicianship. “I don’t think there’s a single musician on the planet who hasn’t been influenced by the Beatles in some way,” Katie commented when Blackbird was released.
