WHITE BOTTLE

Bachelder, , “Mineralite”, Niagara

A Chardonnay that defies convention – the Chardonnay for those who say they don’t drink Chardonnay. $11 $49 Bright lemon in colour, ripe citrus notes with hints of white stone fruit, and flinty mineral touches. Medium to full bodied on the palate with a scented, stone fruit character, and a long, complex, mineral finish.

Tawse, , “Twenty Mile Bench”, Niagara

A Standout wine that drinks above its weight. Perfumed concentrated stone, pear, tangerine, lime, $38 and green apple throughout this electric and exciting Riesling. Vibrating with minerals and energy from top to tail.

Two Sisters, “Barrel Fermented”, Chardonnay, Niagara

The wine is a textured, elegant expression of this much-loved variety, with plenty of peaches and $97 cream, wet stone with sweet spice notes throughout. There is a concentration without being heavy, rounded out by creaminess and mouth-filling character. The pleasure is that this is all uplifted by a delicate acidity and Beamsville minerality that gives so much appeal. Sophisticated, small batch crafted and splurge-worthy, it has become a cult favourite amongst serious Canadian Chardonnay fans. WINE

Tawse, , “Quarry Road”, Twenty Mile Bench, ON

The 5th from the Quarry Road , this Pinot Noir spent 16 months in French oak barrels; 30% of $75 which were new. Another 10% were aged in new medium plus toast barrels, to encourage the fruitiness of the wine to come through and to round out the strong tannins. Earthy notes are accompanied by aromas of cedar and cranberry. Firm yet approachable tannins on the tongue are followed by wild blueberry and black currant leaf.

Two Sisters, , Niagara, ON

This Cabernet Franc has supple and fleshy with earthy aromas of dark fruit, spice, vanilla and savory dried herbs. $105 Continues with a core of elegant dark cassis and raspberry, smoky and savory notes wrapped up in fine, structured tannins. All of it rounded out with some two years of barrel aging and another in bottle. Begs for earthy mushroom ragout, garlic-laced eggplant or herbed lamb.

Pond View, Cabernet , “Black Label Selection”, Niagara, ON

Deep colours of ripe black cherries give great indication of the flavours within this wine. The nose gives hints of $57 blueberry and cherries with subtle aromas of a warm cedar wood fire. Cherries and plums begin your tasting journey, dark chocolate arrives mid palate finishing with coffee and vanilla bean. Ripe tannins and a long finish balance this medium bodied wine. Oak barrel aged 10 months. WINE
