MMRDA presents Rs. 4,240 crore Budget

Major Infra projects to be implemented in MMR Priority to Metro-Mono, infra-projects for the city

Mumbai, June 27, 2014 – The Honourable Chief Minister and Chairman, MMRDA, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, during the 134th Authority meeting held today, approved Rs. 4,240.78 crore budget for the year 2014-15 presented by Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The budget clearly prioritized crucial projects to be implemented in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region along with Metro Rail, Mono Rail, flyovers, development of road network.

The Authority has accorded an administrative approval to the Rs.3,628-crore Extended Mumbai Infrastructure Project which will see implementation in the Mumbai’s Metropolitan Region. And the budget has afforded Rs. 650 crore boost to the Project for constructing four flyovers, a creek-bridge over Revas creek from Revas and Karanja and two bridges at Mankoli-Motegaon road and - NH-222 near Ulhas creek. This includes broadening and improvement of a road network from Takka Colony to Palaspe Phata on NH- 4, City Ring Road, Bhiwandi Ring Road, Kalyan Ring Road and the link road connecting Shirgaon Phata and . The project further includes repairs and beautification of Neral-Dasturi Road, Dasturi- Road and exhibition spots at Matheran.

The Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project which is being implemented in Mumbai has been allocated Rs. 215 crore for flyovers, improvement of road network etc.

The Authority has further allocated Rs. 634 crore for the Metro Rail Project with major chunk (Rs. 500 crore) spared for the --Seepz Metro corridor and the Charkop- Bandra- Metro corridor has been sanctioned Rs. 4 crore for various studies to be conducted afresh since the corridor is now expected to be implemented underground.

The Authority has also spared Rs. 400 crore for the second phase of Mono Rail project from to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk. The work on the second phase is in full swing and is expected to be completed next year.

“We are already witnessing the response from commuters travelling in the city, outside the city and abroad after a few critical infrastructure facilities such as Metro Rail, Mono Rail, Santacruz- Link Road, Amar Mahal Junction flyover, Eastern Freeway, Milan Rail Over Bridge Kherwadi flyover and Sahar Elevated Road have been thrown open for the city. All these are products of State’s investment, MMRDA’s persuasion and more importantly people’s patience”, said ’s Chief Minister Mr. Prithviraj Chavan.

“The Authority has continued to make huge provision of funds for more crucial infra projects for the city and MMR. This includes Metro-Mono, flyovers, ROBs, creek bridges, road network etc. The fruits of this single-minded approach to developing the city and MMR will soon be enjoyed by the people. I am sure they will continue to back us in the future too”, said Mr. U.P.S. Madan, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

More importantly the Authority has made a provision of Rs. 1,000 crore for MUTP-2 as the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation is expected to purchase new trains during the budgetary year 2014-15.

“The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road has already proved to be a boon for more than 60,000 commuters daily. We think all the hard work put in for the project is finally showing very positive results”, said Mr. Sanjay Sethi, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, and Project Director, MUTP.

The Authority has spared Rs. 128.88 crore for the Water Resources Development in MMR, Rs. 65 crore for providing civic amenities in BKC, Rs. 50 crore for - connector and Rs. 25 crore each for Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Wadala Truck Terminus and - Alibaug Multi-Modal corridor.
