Love's Story The combative singer-actress embarks on a legal skirmish with her record label that may change what it means to be a rock star. Oh, and she also has some choice words about her late husband's bandmates, her newfound ancestry, Russell Crowe, Angelina Jolie... By Holly Millea | Mar 25, 2002 Image credit: Courtney Love Photographs by Jean Baptiste Mondino COURTNEY LOVE IS IN A LIMOUSINE TAKING HER FROM Los Angeles to Desert Hot Springs on a detox mission. "I've been on a bit of a bender after 9/11," she admits. "I've got a lot of s--- in me. I weigh 147 pounds." Which is why she's checking into the We Care colonic spa for five days of fasting. Slumped low in the seat, the 37-year-old actress and lead singer of Hole is wearing baggy faded jeans, a brown pilled sweater, and Birkenstock sandals, her pink toenails twinkling with rhinestones. On her head is a wool knit hat - 1 - that looks like something she found on the street. Last night she sat for three hours while her auburn hair extensions were unglued and cut out. "See?" Love says, pulling the cap off. "I look like a Dr. Seuss character on chemo." She does. Her hair is short and tufty and sticking out in all directions. It's a disaster. Love smiles a sad, self-conscious smile and covers up again. Lighting a cigarette, she asks, "Why are we doing this story? I don't have a record or a movie to promote.

Breast Cancer Research 2014, 16:442 http://breast-cancer-research.com/content/16/5/442 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access The Angelina Jolie effect: how high celebrity profile can have a major impact on provision of cancer related services D Gareth R Evans1,2,14*†, Julian Barwell3†, Diana M Eccles4, Amanda Collins4, Louise Izatt5, Chris Jacobs5, Alan Donaldson6, Angela F Brady7, Andrew Cuthbert8, Rachel Harrison9, Sue Thomas10, Anthony Howell1, The FH02 Study Group, RGC teams, Zosia Miedzybrodzka11,12 and Alex Murray13 Abstract Introduction: It is frequent for news items to lead to a short lived temporary increase in interest in a particular health related service, however it is rare for this to have a long lasting effect. In 2013, in the UK in particular, there has been unprecedented publicity in hereditary breast cancer, with Angelina Jolie’s decision to have genetic testing for the BRCA1 gene and subsequently undergo risk reducing mastectomy (RRM), and a pre-release of the NICE guidelines on familial breast cancer in January and their final release on 26th June. The release of NICE guidelines created a lot of publicity over the potential for use of chemoprevention using tamoxifen or raloxifene. However, the longest lasting news story was the release of details of film actress Angelina Jolie’s genetic test and surgery. Methods: To assess the potential effects of the ‘Angelina Jolie’ effect, referral data specific to breast cancer family history was obtained from around the UK for the years 2012 and 2013. A consortium of over 30 breast cancer family history clinics that have contributed to two research studies on early breast surveillance were asked to participate as well as 10 genetics centres.

Click here to print By Katherine Faulkner Last updated at 9:00 AM on 23rd February 2010 She is known for her flawless appearance, but Angelina Jolie was seen sporting bizarre marks on her neck while filming her latest movie in Venice. The actress appeared to have developed two large tucks of skin underneath her right ear. The skin also appeared red and sore. These latest pictures will fuel speculation that the 34-year-old may have had a 'ribbon lift'- the latest Hollywood plastic surgery craze. 1 of 5 1/11/2011 10:03 AM Bizarre marks on Angelina Jolie's neck prompt plastic surgery rumours as ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1252819/Bizarre-marks-A... Strange marks: Experts say the raised skin on Angelina's jaw hints at the actress having undergone a ribbon lift The £4,000 procedure is thought to be behind Superstar Madonna's wrinkle-free skin. It involves having a small cut made near the earlobe so a thread of absorbable ribbon can be implanted. The procedure heals within 12 weeks and makes the skin of the neck appear tighter. Plastic surgeon Abel Mounir told The People: 'It looks as though she's received the ribbon treatment from the gathering of skin just below her earlobe. 'But the picture makes it look as though the fixed mechanism of the ribbon has snapped, resulting in the U-shaped indent under the skin.

Digital Tampering in the Media, Politics and Law (http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/farid/research/digitaltampering/) Photography, of course, lost its innocence many years ago. In as early as the 1920s, shortly after the first commercially available camera was introduced, Stalin had his enemies "air-brushed" out of photographs. With the advent of high-resolution digital cameras, powerful personal computers and sophisticated photo- editing software, the manipulation of digital images is becoming more common. Here, I have collected some examples of digital tampering in the media, politics, and the law. To help contend with the implications of this tampering, we have developed a series of tools for detecting traces of tampering in digital images. circa 1860: This nearly iconic portrait of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln is a composite of Lincoln's head and the Southern politician John Calhoun's body. Putting the date of this photograph into context, note that the first permanent photographic image was created in 1826 and the Eastman Dry Plate Company (later to become Eastman Kodak) was created in 1881. February 1982: In this National Geographic magazine cover story on Egypt, the Great Pyramids of Giza, in a horizontal picture by Gordon Gahen, were "squeezed" together to fit the magazine's vertical format. Tom Kennedy, who became the director of photography at National Geographic after the cover was manipulated, stated that "We no longer use that technology to manipulate elements in a photo simply to achieve a more compelling graphic effect. We regarded that afterwards as a mistake, and we wouldn't repeat that mistake today".

When her car breaks down in Oregon, however, the thin fabric of her financial situation comes apart, and she confronts a series of increasingly dire economic decisions, with far-ranging repercussions for herself and her dog. Wendy and Lucy addresses issues of sympathy and generosity at the edges of American life, revealing the limits and depths of people's duty to each other in tough times. E-MAIL TO THE PRODUCER Neil, how are you today? I enjoyed reading "Wendy and Lucy" and thought I'd send off some random-ish thoughts. Read when you have some time. I like films that show affection (at least some) for all their characters. I imagine that if Kelly delivers this one in her quiet style, she'll be adding powerful dramatic irony to the sadness, alienation and loss that permeate the story. The script could be read simply as a story illustration of that iconic American sound, the train whistle. The soundtrack of mourning. The siren of passing hope in the night that better things wait somewhere, anywhere that is not here, another place we could just maybe start again.
