Miicrosoft co-founder Biillll Gates iis steppiing down from the company's board to spend more tiime on phiillanthropiic actiiviitiies. He says he wants to focus on global health and development, education and tackling climate change. One of the world's richest men, Mr Gates, 64, has also left the board of Warren Buffett's massive holding company, Berkshire Hathaway. Economy Facebook launches ‘Pragati’ to boost women entrepreneurship in India

Facebook India called for applications for its CSR initiative, Facebook Pragati, powered by N/Core (The/Nudge Centre for Social Innovation). What iis Pragatii? The initiative will incubate and accelerate early-stage women-led non-profits that are working to drive women entrepreneurship and to spread awareness and adoption of technology among women in India. Facebook Pragati will award four grants of up to ₹50 lakh for each non-profit to scale their work. Facebook CSR focus with Facebook Pragati will be to empower women to set-up and grow their businesses, and contribute to making the country economically and socially stronger. Non-profits that are less than three years old and have at least one woman founder can apply. They should be able to demonstrate a viable business plan. Hands-on support: Besides a grant of up to ₹50 lakh, each of the non-profits selected for Facebook Pragati initiative will mentored by an N/Core Partner — which include Kamakshi Rao (Partner, Ankur Capital); KR Lakshminaraya (Chief Endowment Officer of Azim Premji Foundation) and SK Jain (Co-founder, WestBridge Capital), among others. The start-ups will also receive hands-on support in areas like technology, marketing and human resources from renowned experts and industry leaders, including Facebook’s leadership team and employee volunteers. Along with improving the fundraising strategy of the non-profits through techniques including targeting and storytelling, the programme will also ensure face to face meetings with funders to enable the non-profits to utilise and internalise the learnings, leading to greater sustainability. Deaths Veteran Bengali actor Santu Mukhopadhyay passes away Veteran Bengali actor Santu Mukhopadhyay who was known for his works in films such as 'Sansar Simante' and 'Bhalobasa Bhalobasa' died at his south Kolkata residence on Wednesday evening after prolonged ailments. Mukhopadhyay, who was 69, died of cardiac arrest. Born in Kolkata in 1951, Mukhopadhyay showed his class when he was in early 20s in films like 'Sansar Simante' and 'Raja' by Tarun Majumder and Tapan Sinha respectively. He soon became a known face on big screen with fllms like 'Ganadevata' and 'Byapika Biday'. His other memorable works spanning a period of over four decades included 'Bhalobasa Bhalobasa', 'Hemanter Pakhi', 'Dadamoni', 'Baikunther Will'. Mukhopadhyay was also a familiar face on small screen. He worked in soaps like 'Isthi Kutum', 'Jol Nupur' and 'Andarmahal'. He continued to work despite falling health till recently. Former Czechoslovak Olympic javelin champion Dana Zatopkova passed away. She was an Olympic javelin champion won gold in the Helsinki Olympics in 1952 and won the Olympic silver in Rome in 1960. In 1958, she set the world record of 55.73 meters at the age of 35. She became the European champion in 1954 and 1958. Helsinki Organizing Committee declared her “the happiest gold medalist”. She served as a coach in 1960 and retired from the role in 1980.

Uttar Pradesh government has launched three ambitious schemes for skill development and employment generation for youths in the state and also announced to depute ''Arogya Miitras'' at all primary health centres to inform people about govt health schemes. CM Yuva HUb will also facilitate setting up of 30,000 startups in state while CM apprenticeship scheme will provide stipend of Rs 2500 to the youth of state.
