Planting goes quickly: the shovel is pushed down about three inches and the bare root is inserted; a tap with the foot sets it. Timing is important. Planting on this scale needs to be done just before the rainy season and fortunately, if the rainy season is delayed, "both grasses and rushes are hardy and don't lose a lot of water as trees and shrubs do," noted Brad Smith, Wildlife Habitat Management program manager.

re N Special to the REPORTER § This past week was Dolphin Week and Sanibel Skills re Summer Camp was full to the brim. That's because dolphins are one of those charming species of animals Doc Neill I 65 affectionately refers to as "charismatic megafauna." These t3 are animals humans love to love - big animals that we sens.; re are somehow like us or have an important mystical relation- h ship to us - chimps, dolphins, whales, sloths (just kidding about that last one). Everybody loves dolphins. o And, as any Sanibel Sea School Summer Camper can tell you, there's a good reason why: Dolphins are really and truly fun. After learning about dolphins and spending the week in the water becoming as dolphin-like as possible, Sanibel Sea School was treated with a deluxe event. Thanks to Sanibel Marina and Capt. Henny of the boat Stars And Stripes, campers got to go dolphin watching. a "Dolphin watching" is sometimes "dolphin seeking," but not this past week. Capt. Henny has obviously done this a re few times because there were six or eight dolphins surfing o the wake of the Stars And Stripes and leaping into the air. (For visual confirmation of this fantastic event, go to i-S YouTube.com on your computer and type "stars and stripes and dolphins" in the search bar. That will get you to a little home movie the campers made.) Surprisingly, that momentous boat ride didn't overshad- ow the rest of the week. But that's because we did a lot of other new things. To' learn about echolocation, campers played Sanibel Sea School's own version of Marco Polo. The echolocator wore a mask blacked out with aluminum foil and he or she chanted "echo" while the rest of the youth snorkeling gear; Kathy Santy of Tropical Sense, for as molasses); Scott Lafans, for the donation of a perfect campers answered "location." We spent a lot of the week in lots of great all-natural soap to keep those little fishy hands baby fish aquarium; The Lazy Flamingo, for cups which we masks, as a matter of fact.
