One of the most baffling things about the DC Universe isn't a comic book reboot. After a summer where movies like Mulan and Tenet both released under drastically different methods barely broke even coming out in the Covid pandemic, one can't help but speculate on the wild decision-making behind the director's cut of a movie — and how it factors into the big picture for the DC cinematic franchise. But what is it? What Happened? Fisher recently made claims about an "unprofessional" work environment on the first Justice League reshoots with Joss Whedon claims that WarnerMedia has publicly denied. When the "Snyder Cut" was first confirmed earlier this summerthere was no mention of reshoots. Instead, Snyder would rely on his hours of unused material — plus some new special effects and voice recordings — to turn Justice League into Justice League: Part 2 miniseries. Snyder also made it clear his version of the movie would not use anything shot by Joss Whedon, who took over as director during a reportedly tense and "unprofessional" reshoot. It also supports my own theory that the "Snyder Cut" needed a totally new ending, as Snyder's initial vision called for a two-part Justice League movie. In an alternate timeline where Zack Snyder shot and released Justice League exactly how he intended, the sequel would have opened in Paying actors and building new sets and finalizing VFX and I guess writing a new endingall during a pandemic? The economics simply don't seem to shake out. Though the fan base for the Snyder Cut made a huge noise on social media for years, trending on Justice League: Part 2 isn't a meaningful measurement of commercial potential. There are hordes of other fandoms, some older than the Snyder Cut, who get movies that under-perform. The same year Justice League opened in theaters, Power Rangersbased on the nearly year-old franchise, similarly opened with a thud. A year before that, Star Trek Beyond failed to recoup costs for Paramount. But Justice League does play a part in the growing and evolving DC cinematic franchise, which has a number of Justice League: Part 2 movies in the pipeline. While it's unclear how these movies will tie into Justice League specifically, if at all — conversations about continuity with the Snyder Cut are even more complex Justice League: Part 2 it's still possible the Snyder Cut will factor into the DCEU's future if Warner is willing to pay a whopping seventy million dollars. However, the sequel was indefinitely delayed to accommodate the production of a standalone Batman film starring Affleck. Principal photography took place from April to October After Snyder stepped down from the film following the death of his daughter, Whedon was hired to oversee the remainder of post-production, including writing and directing additional scenes. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the action sequences and performances particularly of Gadot and Miller but criticized the plot, writing, Justice League: Part 2, pacing, villain, and computer-generated imagery. Stone later joins after his father Silas and several other S. Labs employees are kidnapped by Steppenwolf, who is seeking the Mother Box protected by mankind. Steppenwolf attacks an Atlantean outpost to retrieve the next Mother Box, forcing Curry into action. The team receives intel from Commissioner James Gordonleading them to Steppenwolf's army, based in an abandoned facility under Gotham Harbor. The team defeats Steppenwolf, who, overcome with fear, is attacked by his own Parademons before they all teleport away. After the battle, Bruce and Diana agree to set up a Justice League: Part 2 of operations for the team, with room for more members. But, the changes to Snyder's vision sparked fans to create a movement in an effort for the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League to be released. Snyder will now be able to Justice League: Part 2 post-production on his version of the story ahead of a release, although the release format is undetermined. It could arrive on HBO Max as a four-hour movie or a limited series divided into multiple episodes. The critical reception to Snyder's second DCEU movie sent his plans spiraling, as the studio began to move in new directions under different leadership teams. Snyder and Chris Terrio rewrote the original script before filming began, while Geoff Johns helped rewrite the script again on-set, and later orchestrated additional changes from a writer's room. Instead of going straight back to work for DC, Snyder found a new project to direct before the sequel could begin. The scene saw Deathstroke visit Lex Luthor on a yacht and was directed by Snyder while he was still involved with the film. What Snyder planned to do after the debut of Deathstroke isn't entirely clear.
