Following the restart, Jimmy Clairet tried to snatch the lead at La Source but ran wide, allowing Briché to move into second place. Briché then powered past Borković on the Kemmel Straight to take the lead and Clairet’s Peugeot then made contact with Borković that sent the Serbian’s Hyundai into a spin at Les Combes. Briché was then able to take his third successive Race 2 victory, but Clairet was punished by the Stewards for the contact with Borković and so he finished outside the points. As a result, Mat’o Homola and Andreas Bäckman were elevated into second and third places respectively. In all, no fewer than seven investigations were held during the race. Urrutia was involved in two of them and was judged to have been guilty in both. The Uruguayan was given a 30-second time penalty for hitting Magnus during the overtaking manoeuvre while battling for fifth position and will also be dropped five places on the grid for the next race for triggering an incident that involved Tom Coronel and Stian Paulsen. The series next heads to the Red Bull Ring in Austria on July 13th and 14th. 8

“No, I don’t think so. It’s more about knowing how to perform over the full race distance by tyre degradation and so on. During the fights, you become more clever Three questions to… – that’s probably the best part. Of course, you work with two different teams and so you learn two different things, especially with different engineers and different styles Tom Coronel of doing things. I cannot see anything negative, other than the fact that I am never at home!” You’re competing in both WTCR and TCR Europe this year – tell us about the positives and negatives of doing the two.

“I don’t see any negatives, to be honest. You can make as many miles as possible and that can only be a good thing. They are two different cars and so you have to adapt slightly to the different driving styles, but the cars are so similar because of the BoP and they use the same tyres so they have roughly the same lap times and the same feelings. As a racing driver, you want to drive as much as possible, so I think it’s positive to do both championships.”

You’ve always been very supportive of the TCR concept, so you must be just about the perfect person to ask about why it is working so well?

“I knew the philosophy before we went over to TC1, so I knew things like what the prices for drivers would be because somebody needs to pay the bills! TC1 was completely out of hand – it was only for two manufacturers and the rest were just filling up the field. The TCR concept is completely different; if you want a Honda, you just buy a Honda; you just order one and you can race with it! With the regulations, everything is the same. That’s how it is – it’s proven and everybody likes it. It’s really popular but to be honest I hoped it would have come along one year earlier. I’m a fanatic about it because I knew what TCR was going to do and what the style was going to be. As a motorsport lover, I have always been behind this system.”
