This is a rare up close look at the famous creations from the most influential American artist of the 20th century. A donation to the museum allows access to this rare, unprecedented event. Join John Leavengood, insect taxonomist and evolutionary biologist, to learn how things like the monsters from the “Alien" movie series, Starship Troopers, Spider-Man, The Tick, Ant-Man and giant monstrous insects compare to actual insects and their almost supernatural abilities, weird appearances and strange behavior. Most indie films run the film festival circuit to promote and hopefully find distribution for their films. Wizard World is proud to announce the Wizard World Film Festival, now accepting submissions for its final three events of 2013, beginning with the Wizard World Ohio Comic Con, Sept. 20-22. Film festival organizers and independent film director Roze (Speak No Evil) will highlight how to submit to film festivals, the nitty gritty of indie film production and sneak previews of films to be featured on future stops of the Wizard World Film Festival tour. Join Tea Krulos, author of the new book Heroes in the Night: Inside the Real Life Superhero Movement, a non-fiction that explores the “Real Life Superhero” (RLSH) subculture -- people that invent their own costumed persona and hit the street to do charity events and sometimes even attempt crime-fighting. In a rare team up special, Krulos will be hosting a panel that includes actual RLSHs. They are: They are: Razorhawk, who leads the Great Lakes Alliance in Minneapolis, Watchman and Blackbird of the Milwaukee team the Challengers, Electron from La Crosse, WI, and Chicago’s own Moon and Crimson Catalyst (ROOM 42) 6:00 – 6:45PM XION NETWORK PRESENTS: CREATING DYNAMIC BLACK FEMALE CHARACTERS IN FICTION This specially constructed informative and entertaining workshop features Independent Creators Shawn Alleyne (Aizan), Joe Curry (Prodigy), Ytasha Womack (Post Black) and an esteemed panel sharing their techniques, advice and secrets on how to develop strong female characters in comics and novels with an emphasis on black culture. If you are an aspiring writer and/or artist, this “From-the-ground-up” approach will guide you through practical drawing and writing tips on how to build your characters and worlds. A portion of the panel will feature a question and answer discussion that seeks to make creators explore new aspects of their developing character, and question the established status quo of the lack of strong diverse black female characters in fiction. In this panel, esteemed creators, David Chelsea (Snow Angel; Dark Horse Presents; Welcome to the Zone), Trevor Mueller (Albert the Alien; Reading with Pictures), Dan Parent (Archie; Betty and Veronica; Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and Rob Prior (Spawn; Deep Space 9; Evil Ernie; Heavy Metal) describe how to overcome creative obstacles and share their keys to unleashing creativity. Bringing your novel series to market is no longer held captive by big publishing companies. Learn how you can bring your dream to market through self-publishing. Zummo, Brauer, Volansky, and other will share their experiences and insights, point out the pitfalls and how to avoid them, talk about printed editions versus ebooks, and give you the roadmap to successfully debut your book. (ROOM 34) 2:00 – 2:45PM THE MAKING OF STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN Celebrate the amazing actresses, actors, and behind the scene artists who worked on Nicholas Meyer’s Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan with this multimedia presentation by College of Lake County sociology professors John and Maria Jose Tenuto. More than 120 rare, and many never-before-seen, newly discovered photographs paint the incredible picture of a company of actors and artists whose talents combined to create one of Star Trek’s best films. in addition to the photographs, the presentation will share trivia and little known facts about the making of TWOK based on six years of research. A special thank you to writer/director Nicholas Meyer for his permission to share these photographs and the University of Iowa Library. (ROOM 41) 2:00 – 2:45PM ONE-ON-ONE WITH VERNE TROYER Verne Troyer earned his claim to fame as “Mini Me” in the Austin Powers film franchise. Since then he has appeared in numerous films including Men in Black; Instinct; Jingle All The Way; Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas; Bubble Boy; The Grinch Who Stole Christmas; Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and 2008’s The Love Guru.
