-Expansion Wrap Up & Mountain Update (Infographic for Expansion Wrap Up attached)

Kids Ski Free We’re excited to introduce the Kids Ski Free pass for the 2019/20 season. With the purchase of an Adult Plus Pass, any kid skis free all season. The goal behind this program is to give the gift of skiing and riding to a younger generation and to make the sport more affordable for families. Anyone who purchases an Adult Plus Pass will receive a voucher to pick up a free junior season pass for kids ages 6-12. This voucher can be given to any child, whether they are a kid of your own, a grandchild, niece/nephew, or neighbor. At just $1078 (full winter pricing), this is the most affordable family season pass option in the White Mountains.

Base Lodge For the 2019/20 season the Base Lodge renovation will be completed. The finished Freestyle Lounge will reflect Waterville Valley’s freestyle heritage and will be a comfortable place to enjoy lunch and après with food and drink service. Visually the space will be bright and welcoming with a rustic feel decorated with memorabilia from our freestyle past, along with repurposed pieces of mountain equipment that are being refinished as art pieces.

There will be different sections to the third floor including a private event space and a bar area that will seamlessly come together as a whole. Entering slopeside guests will walk into the Freestyle Lounge bar area. The refinished picnic tables will give the space a more upscale look and to the right of the door will be a standing-room area furnished with unique refinished high- top tables.

The former Buckets dining space will have a new, modern look with the ability to be cross utilized for dining and private events. Additionally, we envision that the third floor of the Base Lodge will become a popular venue to host summer events and weddings on the mountain. We’re excited to see the finished product, and of course enjoy live music while sipping on a mug of 603 Brewery Exhibition IPA or a hot cocoa after a long day on the slopes.

Welcome Center This summer we acquired the former Waterville Valley Realty building on Route 49 coming into the Valley. We’re in the process of re-purposing the space as a Welcome Center for the resort and creating offices for our Group Sales team. Central Reservations will also run out of this location. Guests will be able to stop in, ask questions, purchase lift tickets, and lessons all at this location. Be sure to stop in and say hi!

Terrain Parks For the 2019/20 season we are redesigning our terrain parks. Most of our parks will now be located off of the , so park skiers and riders can enjoy park lap after park lap. This will also make training for our freestyle athletes more convenient. This year we’ll have a medium/large park on Exhibition, a medium park on Higher Ground, a small park on Lower White Caps, and the medium park in the Sugar Shack Glades.

Snowmaking For the 2019/20 season Waterville Valley continues to upgrade the snowmaking system for even more efficiency. We’ve upgraded our filtration system which will allow for cleaner water to pass through creating a higher quality snow product more efficiently. This winter we’ve also added 34 more Folk tower guns to cover the mountain with more snow. In addition, we installed new valving and added more pipe allowing us to reconfigure snowmaking to better serve our needs on Green Peak along with upgrades and repairs to the snowmaking infrastructure on Tecumseh.

Nordic New to the Nordic Center for the 2019/20 season is a Prinoth Husky Groomer. The new Husky has excellent visibility with its large windows, upgraded ergonomic controls, and increased lighting for productivity and safety. It also has greater maneuverability with its two or four track setting plates and tillers that can be individually activated. The power of the Husky comes from the motor with Tier 4 technology that reduces emissions by making the engine perform with far more efficiency, creating more power while burning less fuel. The brass tracks on this groomer will allow for more efficient grooming of our Nordic trails, allowing us to cover more kilometers in a night, alongside our current Pistenbully 100.

Website Over the summer we also re-built waterville.com to create a better buying experience and to allow for easier communication.

-Starry Nights Enjoy a night under the stars at the Sunnyside Timberlodge. Our Starry Nights event offers a mountainside gourmet dinner to an acoustic beat. Ride up the Valley Run Quad then ski or ride to the Sunnyside Timberlodge along a torch-lit trail. When guests arrive at the lodge they trade out their ski/snowboard boots for cozy souvenir socks and warm up fireside with appetizers, beer and wine while chatting with friends and listening to local musicians.

Then they head into the dining room for the main event which will feature a gourmet meal and an opera performance by our very own Vladimir Popov aka Vlad. Vlad is a retired famous russian opera singer who has performed in the most prestigious opera houses around the world. Today, he is a lift attendant, ski check attendant, and a groundskeeper at the golf course, but guests can still hear his voice around the mountain and witness a Popov performance at Starry Nights. The night then culminates with a torchlight parade by skiing or riding down the Valley Run trail under the stars. The event is $135/person (including tax), is all-inclus ive , a nd open to ages 16+.

-Anna McIntyre Receives the ‘Spirit of Skiing Award’ in Waterville Valley

Anna McIntyre received the ‘Spirit of Skiing Award’ presented by the New England Ski Museum at the Waterville Valley Conference Center on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019. Each year the Museum honors a person or group that personifies the famous Otto Schniebs saying that “skiing is not just a sport- it is a way of life.”

Anna and her family have been skiers at since the beginning, purchasing season passes when founder Tom Corcoran opened the resort opened in 1966. Anna later played an integral role in putting Waterville Valley on the map as a competitive venue, serving in many positions for Waterville Valley Black & Blue Trail Smashers (WVBBTS). She acted as Chief of Race for 9 World Cup races and was present for 11 races held at Waterville Valley from 1969-1991, including the World Cup finals. She also played an instrumental role in the acceptance of snowboarding as a sanctioned sport by USSA and FIS.

“The European coaches and team leaders, all of whom were male chauvinists, really bullies, [were] accustomed to throwing their weight around and receiving deferential treatment,” Waterville Valley owner and founder Tom Corcoran wrote in recommending Anna for the Hall of Fame. “I never saw her intimidated or rattled, and the Euros quickly came to realize that she had an inner toughness and strength that equaled their own. They also found out that she knew the F.I.S. rule book as well, and usually a lot better than they did.”

-Sunday Skinners Every Sunday morning at sunrise a group of hardy individuals slap on their skins to the bottom of their skis, illuminate their headlamps, and make their way up to the top of High Country. What started out as just four individuals looking for a morning workout and fist turns quickly turned into a group as large as 25 some weeks. The sacred Sunday morning skins are led by long-time Waterville Valley resident and snowsports instructor, Bill Powell, who takes the group up Valley Run and Oblivion to the top of High Country for early morning turns and back to the Schwendi Hutte for breakfast. Every Saturday Bill sends out a group text reminding folks to meet in the locker room, even on the coldest of mornings from November - until whenever the snow melts.

Waterville Valley Resort technically does not permit uphill traffic currently due to the numerous blind spots for cats and snowmobiles on the face of the mountain, however this group has been around for so long that the operations crew knows to expect them. A cat driver or snowmobile operator will even shout out where the powder stashes as they drive by. The group has been a huge supporter of creating an uphill policy at Waterville Valley and the mountain is currently in the process of developing a program that will create safe uphill traffic for everyone.

Summer/Fall:

-Hiking America’s Oldest Network of Maintained Trails

Quick Facts:

● First developed in the 1860s by entrepreneurial innkeeper, Nathaniel Greeley. What began as creating bridle paths connecting Waterville Valley to other resort towns eventually turned into the development of a 125 mile trail system to the top of the Valley’s surrounding peaks as well as many natural features with the goal of enhancing the town’s outdoor recreation. ● Although many of Greeley’s trails were later replaced by new trails or fell into disuse, in the summer of 1879, the AMC members and Waterville Valley seasonal resident, Arthur Goodrich continued on his tradition by building new trail routes up Mt. Tecumseh and Sandwich Dome (today’s Trail).. ● The WVAIA (Waterville Valley Athletic Improvement Association) was developed in 1888 with the p rima ry func tio n o f b uild ing a nd mainta ining hiking trails . ● In 1900 Goodrich opened a rugged route up the ravine of Osceola Brook to Mt. Osceola and several new trails, including paths to K1 and K2 cliffs on Mt. Kancamagus, Flume Trail, and a now abandoned foot path that led to the town of Sandwich via Cascade Brook which is now known as “Lost Pass.” ● Goodrich can be considered Waterville Valley’s “greatest hiker” and he also cultivated a long -standing tradition in New Hampshire. He was the founder of the now popular activity known as “peak bagging” in the White Mountains. In 1931 he published an article in Appalachia, the journal of the AMC, which proposed a list of 36 White Mountain 4000- footers that he had climbed, with the stipulation that each peak must rise at least 300 feet above any ridge connecting it with a higher 4000-foot neighbor. ● In 1957, the AMC formally created the NH48 list using the 200-foot rule. Five of the peaks on this popular list are part of Waterville Valley (Tecumseh, Osceola, East Osceola, Mt. Tripyramid, North Tripyramid), and two more (Whiteface and Passaconaway) are within the town’s boundary. ● Over the years the White Mountain National Forest has taken over maintenance of many of Wa te rville Va lle y’s 125 m ile s o f hiking trails with the help of the Waterville Valley Athletic & Imp rove me nt As s o cia tion (WVAIA) who ma intains ap p roximate ly 24 miles o f tra ils .

-Curious George What many people don’t know about the birthplace of is that it is also the birthplace of the beloved monkey, Curious George. Margret and H.A. Rey, the creators of Curious George, spent their summers in Waterville Valley as an escape from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan so that Margret had a place to garden and H.A. had a place where he could view the stars. In 1958, the couple built their White Mountain home located at 7 Noon Peak Rd, in Waterville Valley, NH where they quickly became a part of the tight knit community. Their new home became a place where the Rey’s would dream up new adventures for their inquisitive monkey. H.A. used to let children watch as he drew new adventures for George. At times, he would give his sketches to the children or take them on nature walks and tell stories with his talent of throwing his voice.

The red bungalow is now a place that visitors can see where the adventures of Curious George were created for themselves. Now run by the non-profit Margret and H.A. Rey Center, the space has been transformed into a "green building" in honor of H.A. Rey's early interest in alternative energy, featuring solar arrays, porous paving, geothermal technology, rain gardens, constructed wetlands, and a landscape that maintains and interprets the mountain environment. The Rey Center features an earth and sky observatory and a telescope that can project onto a large screen. In the spirit of the Reys' generosity, all activities are open and free to the public.

-Quilters Gone Wild On a handful of weekends a group of avid quilters take over the Silver Fox Inn. They call themselves “Quilters Gone Wild.” For an entire weekend these ladies bring their craft to Waterville Valley to design beautiful quilts while chatting and enjoying wine and snacks. It’s an interesting scene to walk into as an outsider, but they’re always welcoming and happy to share what they’re working on and tell some stories and jokes.

Snowmaking Improvements.

Cranmore has added 10 new high-efficiency snow guns to the mountain inventory which were developed by Cranmore owners, Brian and Tyler Fairbank. These guns use 90 percent of water pumping capacity – a typical snow gun would utilize about 50 percent or less. This technology uses 50 percent less air, which means less electricity is used, and overall, two times the amount of snow is made. Cranmore has increased their inventory of energy efficient snow guns by over 500% since 2010.

Breaking Ground on Phase II of Kearsarge Brook Condominiums – Cranmore’s $50 million base area redevelopment plan.

In October, 2019, Cranmore broke ground on Phase II of their $50 million base area redevelopment plan, Kearsarge Brook Condominiums at Cranmore. With a projected completion date of December of 2020, Phase II includes 19 two- and three-bedroom units ranging in size from approximately 1,249 to 2,082 square feet. All Phase II units include an ensuite Master, stone-faced propane fireplace in the main living area, a patio (first floor units) or balcony, and luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout the entire home. Additional Kearsarge Brook features and amenities include gated parking, elevator access to floors two – four, and membership options for an onsite fitness room and year-round heated outdoor pool and hot tub.

Phase II is part of a six-phase plan that will eventually be six new base area buildings at the base of Cranmore Mountain. Phases III, IV, V and VI will consist of both residential and day-ski facilities. New buildings will eventually replace all of Cranmore’s existing facilities, except for the Cranmore Ticket Office building and the historic summit Meister Hut. New ski facilities will include a restaurant, cafeteria, seating, locker rooms, restrooms, changing areas, rental shop, ski retail shop, snow sports instruction registration and other skier service areas. Two-, three- and four-bedroom condominium units will be built on the second and third floors of the final four phases.

Cranmore Announces Beginner Friendly Lift Serviced Mountain Bike Park for Summer 2020 .

In Spring of 2019, Cranmore broke ground on a beginner friendly lift serviced mountain bike park with a projected opening of June 2020. The park will feature 5 miles of beginner/intermediate flow trails off Cranmore’s South Quad, in addition to a skills park near the base of the mountain. Special Learn-To- Ride packages will be available, along with daily lift service tickets and season passes. Cranmore will transition its winter rental shop into a full-service bike rental shop with a full line of Rossignol Enduro bike rentals and gear accessories.

Mount Washington Valley Recreation Path.

Lead by the Valley Trails Association, the multi-use, 2.8-mile paved path will run between Cranmore Mountain and Hemlock Lane (by Wal-Mart). Groundbreaking is projected to take place in spring 2020. The recreation path will provide residents and visitors with opportunities for safe, family-oriented recreation and transportation. Cranmore has donated over $13,000 in funds from their fundraising event, Rock the Rec, which featured live music from local bands. 100% of ticket proceeds were donated to the MWV Trails Association to fund the North Conway Rec Path.

White Mountains Trails Initiative.

The White Mountain NEMBA group will be building a new connector trail from the top of Mountain (adjected to Cranmore) to Cranmore’s summit. The group will also be funding a climb and descend trail from the bottom of Cranmore’s Kandahar Ski Trail to the water tower located at the bottom of Hurricane Mountain Road. The climb trail will be approximately 1.5 miles long and the descend trail will be a similar distance. The White Mountain Trails Initiative will be spending over $100,000 for the development of these free community mountain bike trails.

Winter The Overview - Ski Area is part of Purity Spring Resort. Owned and operated by generations of the Hoyt Family, Purity Spring Resort has been providing hospitality and the rich tradition of family-centered recreational activities for over 100 years. In 1938, a rope tow was installed to bring small groups of guests to the inn to enjoy the relatively new sport of snow skiing. In 1962, the first trails were cut for what would become King Pine Ski Area. Today, with a network of well-maintained surface and chair lifts, quality snowmaking and a reputation of being 100% all trails open early and throughout the ski season, family and beginner fun remains the soul of King Pine Ski Area.

King Pine offers night skiing and snowboarding, lift-serviced snowtubing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice-skating, fun events, a friendly après scene and available slopeside lodging at Purity Spring Resort. With views of Purity Lake, King Pine features high-efficiency, low-energy modern snowmaking and a reputation of being consistently 100% all trails open early and staying that way in to the spring season.

100% Committed And Invested In The Future - With a significant water source available from Purity Lake and a modern snowmaking system capable of covering 100% of its trail network, King Pine is already known for its quality snow and being 100% open early (often the first in New Hampshire) and through the entire season. To maintain this snowmaking infrastructure, King Pine over the past couple of years invested a $100,000 installing 5,000 feet of new larger diameter snowmaking pipe to replace older pipe. King Pine also invested an additional $200,000 to acquire high efficiency, low energy tower and ground guns as well as upgrading and refurbishing its fan guns to the most up-to-date efficient snowmaking specifications. With these modernization efforts, King Pine is able to move greater amounts of water, increase snowmaking performance, operate more guns covering greater terrain more quickly, all while significantly reducing the energy expended to do so.

Most recently, King Pine invested over $60,000 during the 2019 off-season maintaining its lift infrastructure, making base lodge improvements and investing in technology upgrades. Included in the technology portion, King Pine is working with cloud-based technology to improve its inventory management and scheduling. King Pine has also invested an additional $50,000 purchasing new equipment to add to its available ski and snowboard rental fleet.

The Longest Running Ski Camp In North America – In 1939, Milt Hoyt started the Ski & Snowboard Camp at Purity Spring Resort for boys and girls and today is known as the longest-running ski camp. Having recently surpassed 80 years of operation, the overnight Ski & Snowboard Camp today offers two individual winter weeks (February Presidents Week and immediate following New Hampshire school vacation week), and maintains its long-standing tradition of excellent instruction within a social setting. Much like a summer camp, boys and girls come to camp to ski, board, skate, swim, sled, dance, laugh, and learn together. An indoor pool, skating rink, tubing hill, and dance hall provide ample opportunities for fun when not on the slopes. A Deal You Can’t Beat! $10 Tuesday Nights - King Pine in Madison, New Hampshire is known for value and it's hard to beat their $10 Tuesday Night Deals. Every non- holiday Tuesday night during the winter season, King Pine offers $10 Tuesday night (4- 9 p.m.) lift tickets and also offers $10 rentals, $10 snowtubing (5-7 p.m.) and even a $10 Burger and Beer in the Trail's End Tavern. An Ideal Ski Area To Learn A Winter Passion - Whether it's snowboarding or skiing, King Pine Ski Area in New Hampshire has long been an ideal ski area for those wanting to discover and learn a lifelong winter passion. A smaller mountain at 350 vertical feet, King Pine offers a variety of terrain for all skier types, from gentle slopes to steeper runs and treeskiing areas. Geographically, King Pine is protected by surrounding mountains and doesn’t experience the wind that many other ski areas do. Summer Lake Life As It Should Be - Originally named Purity Spring Farms and Cottages, guests from around New England were attracted to the over 1,000 natural acres of fields and forests which surrounded spring-fed Purity Lake. For over 105 years, generations of the Hoyt Family have been welcoming guests and families to Purity Spring Resort. Owned and operated by the Hoyt Family of East Madison since the late 1800's, original founder Edward E. Hoyt first operated The Hoyt Natural Spring Water Company, shipping bottled "Purity Spring Water" to Boston and New York City. A decade later, Hoyt had already begun to invite guests to his lakeside country inn before deciding in 1911 to devote more of his time to his lodging guests. Today, Purity Spring Resort is a collection of Inns, Cottages, Lodge and Condominium- style lodging accommodations offering families a classic, full-resort experience where there are scheduled daily activities like waterskiing, archery, guided hikes, arts & crafts, tie-dying, lobster bakes, breakfast cookouts and canoe trips. Purity Spring Resort also operates its own Traditions Restaurant & Pub focused on accommodating guests, but also open to the public. With a location that has both mountain scenery and clean, lake living serenity, Purity Spring Resort is conveniently located between the Lakes Region and the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and is just 20 minutes south of North Conway and its tax-free outlet shopping. Summer Boys Camp - In 1932, Purity Spring Resort founder Edward Hoyt’s son, Milt, opened Camp Tohkomeupog for Boys on a portion of the Hoyt property along Purity Lake. Milt envisioned a special blending of sports, outdoor activities, and camping adventures and the name “Tohkomeupog”, a modified Native American translation of the English, “Spring Water”, was used to name it. Known to most of the boys, counselors and directors today simply as Camp Tohko, Milt’s original vision has stood the test of time and it’s quite common for campers to have included generations of camp alum. Also unique to Camp Tohko, is family camp week that allows entire families to vacation together and enjoy traditional camp fun, such as archery, softball, riflery, tennis, sailing, games, outdoor adventures and watersports. Unique Summer Dining Experiences - Purity Spring Resort has been serving breakfast, lunch and dinner since 1911 when carriage guests were first welcomed to The Inn. In the summer, it offers one-of-a-kind outdoor dining experiences for its guests and also open to the public. Every Monday morning during the summer, whether you paddle by boat, walk trails within the Audobon Hoyt Wildlife Sanctuary or drive the scenic dirt road to Rocky Point, the aroma of bacon frying in a skillet over an open fire and legendary cheese omelets cooked while you watch are an annual tradition for many. And every Thursday evening, the Purity Spring Resort Lobster Cookout claims the longest continuously running Lobster Bake in New England offering seaweed- steamed lobster, corn-on-the cob, steaks, chicken, salads, burgers and more. Visit TraditionsNH.com for more information or call 367-8896 to make reservations. Spring/Fall Creative Getaways - As the snow melts and spring buds sprout as well as during the span of the fall foliage and autumn season, the King Pine Base Lodge becomes a creative hub for scrapbooking, quilting and knitting. With the best, custom workspace tables and all-inclusive accommodations, meals, amenities and good times with others to focus on projects, Purity Spring Resort offers all-inclusive weekend and week-long package stays for large groups of hobby enthusiasts and the vendors who supply them with the materials they need. On the grounds of Camp Tohkomeupog, and next to King Pine, Halloween Town offers children an opportunity to enjoy what many remember from childhood as traditional Halloween fun. Children and families walk around a “neighborhood” in trick-or-treat style visiting the rustic camp cabins that have been theatrically transformed to provide good laughs and scares for visitors. Halloween Town also features a kid carnival, petting farm, food court, tethered hot air balloon rides, entertainment, and more. 1. Proud to be Locally owned since 1963 - longest continuously operating ski area run by the same owner

Pats Peak Ski Area is conveniently located in Southern NH off I-89 in the town of Henniker, NH. In the early 1960s, Wayne, Joe, Stuart, and David Patenaude spent a lot of time skiing. They also spent a lot of time standing in lift lines. So the four brothers came back to Henniker and built a ski mountain to call home. Using their father Merle’s property, they began cutting trees on the hillside, processing the wood and cutting the trails. Pats Peak opened for skiing on January 5, 1963.

Wayne and Sally Patenaude are the current owners of Pats Peak. This season, Pats Peak is in its 57th consecutive ski and snowboard season under the Patenaude family ownership, which makes it the longest continuously operating ski area run by the same owner.

Pat Peak was the first mountain in New Hampshire to have snowmaking in the early 1970’s and was instrumental in getting other ski areas operational. Today, snowmaking takes place on 100 percent of the mountain.

In 1969, the lodge was moved from a site about 300 feet up the hill where a large tree now grows. The original lodge is incorporated as part of the second floor in the current lodge.

Pats Peak is New Hampshire’s premier family snowsports destination with 28 well-groomed trails, three terrain parks, a snowtubing park, 11 high capacity lifts, 100 percent snowmaking coverage, night skiing on all trails on the main mountain, three separate beginner areas and some of the most challenging terrain in Southern New Hampshire.

Pats Peak has more than 70 Adult Racing teams in the Adult Corporate Racing League, an After School Learn to Ski and Snowboard Program for more than 8,000 kids from over 100 local schools and the most Night Skiing in Southern New Hampshire.

Pats Peak is one of the state’s most accessible learn-to-ski-and-snowboard mountains. From three separate beginner areas to the only ski area in the state to boast two F.I.S. Race Trails, Pats Peak will introduce its guests to the best way of celebrating winter.

Every year Pats Peak continually focuses to improve its facility and experience for their skiers and snowboarders. New for the 2019/2020 season, guests will find a lodge addition to the Main Lodge complete with new enlarged bathrooms, an elevator, friendly stairs and additional lodge space.

An exciting benefit for students who participate in the Pats Peak Learn to Ski and Ride Program is a Bonus Day at Pats Peak, Cranmore and Bretton Woods, offering (1) one free lift ticket to ski/ride at their mountain, valid Monday, February 24, 2020 through the end of their respective ski season. There is no additional cost for this benefit to the program.

The Pats Peak Snowsports School strives to provide their students with only the highest quality of instruction.
