Sincerely, Nita Patel 2013 IEEE WIE Chair [email protected] There is a story of a young girl who is frustrated about the challenges in front of her. One day she approaches her mother to say that she was tired and simply wanted to give up. Her mother took her into the kitchen and filled three pots with water. In the first pot she placed the strong, firm carrots. In the second, she placed the fragile eggs and in the last, she placed the ground coffee beans. The mother let her daughter vent as the water boiled. IEEE WOMEN IN ENGINEERING NEWSLETTER | JANUARY 2013 3 WIE is pleased to introduce….. Angleat Shelikoff Angleat Shelikoff is the Reliability, Manufacturing & Quality Subject Matter Expert in the Armament Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida USA. In this capacity, Angleat advises the Armament Directorate Program Executive Officer for Weapons and Program Offices on matters covering a portfolio of weapon system acquisition programs valued at $52B. She has over 28 years of experience in private sector and government service. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering and master degrees in Economics as well as Systems Engineering. She also holds American Society for Quality certifications in Reliability and Quality Engineering. She works hard at balancing duties as a mother of three with her volunteer work and professional career. Explain why you became a Technical Professional. I chose engineering because I've always loved math and science and was fascinated with how things work. What information or advice would you like to pass on to a young girl interested in engineering? Take as many math and science classes as you can because it will provide a solid foundation for college. How does your work as an engineer benefit humanity? I have a responsibility to the warfighter as well as to the taxpayer to ensure we design, field and maintain operationally effective and suitable systems that meet warfighter needs while minimizing total life cycle costs.
