Bold is a fully peated single malt from Paul Distilleries (they're aptly named expressions). Peat is brought over to Goa from Islay for Bold, where it is used to dry their 6-row Indian barley.

History

Established in 1992, John Distilleries grew to be a leading spirit company within less than a decade. Its creation ‘Paul John Single Malts’ were launched in the UK in 2012, which were soon laureled by single malt enthusiasts around the world. Majestically towering its way through the world market, The Great Indian Single Malts has been crowned with innumerable global awards further proving our excellence. This recognition from the single malt palate has encouraged us to unfurl this tricolored aroma of our single malts across different continents.

The 6 Row Barley used is specially grown in cold weather and harvested in summer for perfect maturity. From germination, malting and peating of these barley grains comes the distinctive smokiness and taste of the whiskies

The various expressions of The Great Indian Single Malt is the artistic fusion of three elements- Barley, Water, and Charred Oak Casks. Each bottle has a significant character of its own.

The journey to create the most sumptuous whisky lead to a family of 5 core expressions. Brilliance, Edited and Bold are the flagship expressions. With 46% ABV, the Brilliance is a non-peated whisky, Edited has a hint of peat, while Bold is the epitome of a peated whisky.

Skillfully crafted and anchored, the Select Casks whiskies are drawn from selected cask profiles and have a distinct and unique character. The Classic is an elegant masterpiece from selected casks while the Peated offers delicious wafts of peat.

The weather in Goa is ideal for making whiskies, helping them to mature faster than whiskies produced in cold climates

Taste with water

NOSE: After the slightest whiff of smoke, a dizzying array of Manuka honey, prickly spice and bourboneque red liquorice takes over Peat smoke that of a cold smoky chimney.

PALATE: This melt-in-the-mouth malt has the most profound flavours crashing in like waves. At first, the delivery feels sublimely silky and studded with oak-like honey. And just when you think you’ve savoured it all, you are surprised by a hefty second wave of spice. This is followed by a cloudy, smoky feel that coats the roof of the mouth and leaves a tidal wave of dry molasses, peaty soot and a degree of copper in its wake.

BODY: Full bodied

FINISH: Bold has a light finish with a tinge of copper slowly making its presence known. You can also sense a gorgeous smoked mocha shaped by delicate and intricate spices.

STYLE: Peaty. Reminiscence of an elegant Islay whisky
