WIGHTMAN BOOT HISTORY More commonly known as the ‘Boot’, the tradition was born when Brian Wightman, a former UBC Coach and England international had his rugby cleat stolen and bronzed by his players. Now mounted on a base, the ‘Boot’ is awarded annually to the winner of the two-game total point series between the UVic Vikes and UBC Thunderbirds. Over the past four decades, many of the UVic and UBC Alumni representative selections were based on matches between the archrivals.
