Name Index 257 ICAR – at a glance The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous organization under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. Formerly known as Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, it was established on 16 July, 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in pursuance of the report of the Royal Commission on Agriculture. The ICAR has its headquarters at New Delhi. The Council is the apex body for coordinating, guiding and managing research and education in agriculture including horticultural Science, fisheries Science and animal sciences in the entire country. With 113 ICAR institutes and 73 agricultural universities spread across the country this is one of the largest national agricultural systems in the world. The ICAR has played a pioneering role in ushering Green Revolution and modernization of agriculture in India through its research, education and extension activities. The challenge before ICAR is to ensure nutritional security to ever-growing population of our country with little potential for increase in cultivable land area, ensuing shortage of water and global warming. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, National Academy of Sciences-India, Allahabad and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi. Born on April 20, 1962 in Cuttack, Odisha, Dr Mohapatra completed his Masters in Genetics from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in 1987 and PhD in Genetics from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in the year 1992. Prior to his appointment at Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, he worked as the Director of National Rice Research Institute (Formerly CRRI), Cuttack and as a researcher and teacher for about 20 years at the National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology, New Delhi. He has been working in the area of molecular genetics and genomics. Dr Mohapatra has over 145 research papers in national and international journals of repute and several book chapters.

Seasonal distribution of moths of the Koakoland (Mopane) Savanna in Ogongo, northern Namibia Grzegorz KOPIJ Department of Wildlife Management, University of Namibia, Katima Mulilio Campus, Private Bag 1096, Katima Mulilo, Namibia; e-mail: [email protected] Abstract: During the years 2011–2013, moths were collected in Koakoland (Mopane) Savanna in the Cuvelai Drainage System, Ovamboland, northern Namibia. In total, 77 species from 13 families have been identified. Their seasonal occurrence in this habitat was also investigated, with most species recorded in wet season between September and April, but with clear peak in February and March. The family Noctuidae was by far the most speciose (38 recorded species), followed by Crambidae (8 spp.), Sphingidae (6 spp.) and Arctiidae (4 spp.). All other families were represented by 1–3 species. For each species listed date of collection is given, and data on its global distribution.
