In 1987, the New York Giants played its first Super Bowl. Its opponents, the Denver Broncos, led at halftime. But the Giants didn’t give up. Quarterback Phil Simms launched powerful passes. His teammates made amazing touchdowns. The Giants scored 30 points in the second half. The team won 39–20.

Tim Mara started the Giants in 1925. The team quickly became powerful. It won the NFL championship in 1927. The team took the title in 1934 and 1938 too. The team was conference champion five times between 1958 and 1963.
The Mara family still co-owns the team today. 6 7 Road to the Super Bowl
The Giants couldn’t win forever. From the mid-1960s through the 1970s, it had few winning seasons. The team rarely won more games than it lost. Then, in 1983, Bill Parcells became coach. He helped turn things around. In 1987, the Giants won its first Super Bowl.
