The Newton Longville circuit of 10.7 miles is a sporting rolling road course, without major hill climbs it has only a few flat stretches resulting in a course that wears down a field. The finish is arrow straight and flat for 250 metres but follows a 650m and 500m “climb” in the last 2Km.

HEADQUARTERS: Longueville Hall, Newton Longville, Bucks MK17 0AT It is on the western boundary of Milton Keynes – 1 mile off the A421. HQ is on the course approx. 0.7 miles from the finish.

CAR PARKING: At HQ: We have extensive off road parking within the grounds of HQ. Please park with consideration to the local residents and to your fellow competitors. To those racing in the morning, please remember that when you return, that the afternoon riders will have arrived/be arriving and that there will be twice the number of vehicles/people throughout the lunchtime transition period. Please follow Marshals directions. Access to the Allotments is to be kept free at all times.

Note: On the Sunday, the grassed area in front of the HQ is reserved exclusively for the National Women’s Road Series.

Feedzone: Limited parking (18-20 vehicles) is available on the hard standing in front of the Barn – courtesy of local farmer, Richard Maycock. Be respectful to the crops in the fields. Please be courteous and follow any Marshals directions.

Note: The A421 from the M1 can be very busy. If you are arriving for the afternoon races from the south via the M1, I would recommend that you either go north to the next exit, or check your GPS, Google or map to find alternate routes via Husbourne Crawley or Salford.

THE COURSE: “NEWTON LONGVILLE” This is a relatively new course, that was first used for the 2015 National Masters. Lap distance 10.7 miles – sporting, rolling, no major hills, but few flat stretches either. The first 1 mile will be neutralised over the railway bridge (care) until you have reached the top of a long drag – do not pass or harass the lead cars. Start from the access road in to Longueville Hall. At the exit turn right on to Whaddon Road. Continue to Bottle Dump Roundabout at the junction with the A421 (This is being professionally Traffic Managed including traffic lights, as it sits at the end of a 70mph dual carriageway – which will be reduced to one lane and an advisory 40mph limit.) Turn left onto the A421 towards Buckingham. After exactly 1 mile and at the next roundabout, turn left on Whaddon Road towards Mursley. Note: both roundabouts will be “sanitised” ie. no traffic will be allowed on the roundabouts as the race approaches and passes through – you should not assume that this will apply once you drop outside the convoy. In Mursley, turn left at the junction into Main Street (care: lots of parked cars – with extra Marshals). Continue on B4032 towards Stewkley (care: after approx. 1 mile sharp right hand bend). At the entrance to Stewkley, turn left on to Bletchley Road (care: after approx. 1 mile on fast left hand bend). This road becomes Newton Road and then Drayton Road as it returns to Newton Longville. Turn left at the X-roads in the middle of the village on to Whadddon Road, and within 0.5 mile pass the HQ to complete the circuit. KM to go signs at: 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 KM and at 400m and 200m

FINISH: The final 2Km starts at the Drayton X-Roads with a 650 metre “climb”, followed by a short downhill section, and at 800 metres to go there is another 500 metre “climb” to the 250 metres to go mark. The Finish is as you enter the village of Newton Longville at the junction of Drayton Road with Westbrook End. It is arrow straight, flat, 250 metres from the last bend. DO NOT PARK ANY WHERE IN THE FINISHING ROAD.

POTHOLES: If you are planning any advance course recce, please note that there are two major areas of potholes (Mursley Main Street and the approach to Stewkley) and a few scattered ones. I have been assured by Bucks CC Highways (tfb – Transport for Buckinghamshire) that they will be applying their new Jet Patcher around the whole of the course prior to the event, to address this issue.

FEEDZONE: On the long drag along Whaddon Road, heading towards Bottle Dump Roundabout. This is assumed to be primarily for handing up drink bottles. Feeding will not be allowed on the last lap. Feeding elsewhere will result in DQ There is a large barn on the right with a concrete forecourt that the local Farmer is allowing us to use. Please park sensibly and be respectful to the crops. Feedzone is on the left hand side of the road only. Jettison bottles etc in safe manner. Do not throw into fields – animals cannot digest them! And please ask your supporters to help the Marshal with any litter, thrown bottles etc. It is the responsibility of riders to advise their support team accordingly.

HQ OPENS AT 0700 (both days) This is an excellent HQ with 2 Changing Rooms and 6 showers as well as a large main hall - and Toilets are well provided for. On Sunday the Changing Rooms and Showers will be for Women only. Please use these facilities not the Car Park or grounds – we are adjacent to a public family playground and playing fields – do not risk being DQ’d.

SIGN ON IS LOCATED ON THE STAGE IN THE MAIN HALL AT RACE HQ: Manned by: Jean Thomas and Pauline Woods

Sign On opens at 0700 on both days and will close 20 minutes before the first race starts. To be clear: Sign On will close at 0750 on Saturday morning, and at 0810 on Sunday morning. For the Saturday afternoon races, Sign On will open at 1115 and close at 1300.

Sunday: Women’s Road Series: Sign On will open at 1045 and will close at 1225. On closing of Sign On, Reserves who have not had a confirmed ride, will be offered any remaining places – you must return to Sign On at 1225 to collect your number. If any confirmed rider arrives after Sign On has closed, you will only be allowed to Sign On if there are less than 80 riders in this race.

Remember: No licence – no ride; No crash helmet – no ride. And no refund. Licences will be returned after the race has finished, when cleared to do so by the Chief Commissaire, and on receipt of your numbers. If you “finish early” for whatever reason (DNF, mechanical, injury etc) your licence will be released. The organiser will not be held responsible for Licences that are left behind.

ANTI-DOPING: We do not receive advance notice. If Anti-Doping authorities make themselves present, the numbers of any riders who are required, will be posted at Sign On. Licences will be withheld until advised otherwise. It is each rider’s responsibility to make themselves aware if they have been called.

RACE CONVOY PREPARATION AND ASSEMBLY: David Price, Kevin Matthews and Patrick Kavanagh This is a logistical challenge, especially during the Saturday lunchtime transition, as we do not have a single car fleet. It includes cars, neutral service, first aid and motos. The convoy will be in the Car Park area immediately outside HQ. Please check your schedule for your allotted place and/or follow direction from our team above. For the Saturday morning Driving Team please arrive no later than 0700 to allow time for set up and livery. When your race finishes please return to HQ promptly. If you are in the afternoon convoy, please return to the Convoy Car Park. If you are not in the afternoon Convoy, please do not park in front of HQ, but do return any equipment (radio, roof lights etc asap for the next driver). If you are a Championship rider in the morning and you are part of the afternoon convoy, on returning to HQ please re- park your car in the Convoy Car Park asap so that it can be set up and liveried by the team above. Change as quickly as possible and attend your briefing – see briefing schedule.

NEUTRAL SERVICE: Please be onsite no later than 0700 each day. There are 2 Neutral Service Vehicles per race (4 in total. please park in your allotted slot opposite the entrance to HQ (opposite side to 2015) and/or as directed by David Price or Kevin Matthews. Please ensure that they are manned at all times, so that riders can find you easily to provide wheels.

COMMISSAIRE MOTOS: Malcolm Dixon and Russ Saunders - please park in your allotted slot immediately in front of HQ alongside the rest of the convoy.

NEG MOTOS – please park in your allotted slot immediately in front of HQ, alongside the rest of the convoy.

ALL CONVOY: 15 minutes before race start, please assemble in the access road to the HQ – keep to the left. Race 1 at the front; Race 2 at the rear – with space for each peloton. Riders Briefing will finish 10 minutes before race start and we want the riders exiting HQ to a Convoy “ready and waiting”.

CONCURRENT RACING: We have obtained special permission from Thames Valley Police (TVP) for concurrent racing ie. two races running at the same time, and for a combined field size at any one time on the circuit of 160 riders. This is specific to these National Championships and is the main factor in being able to run all of these Championships together over one weekend. In this we offer huge thanks to Neil Biggs, Traffic Management Officer - Buckinghamshire, Thames Valley Police for his enthusiastic and constructive support. Part of the local TVP team are likely to be present throughout the weekend.

LAPPED AND DROPPED RIDERS: Any rider who is lapped will be allowed to continue but will be withdrawn prior to the main field starting their last lap. Do not interfere with the race that has passed you. Do not jump in to the peloton that has caught you. Your place will be noted, to determine if you are in the first three in your age group (applies to Masters only). Any rider who is on the same lap but more than 10 minutes down on the main field will be withdrawn before starting the last lap - and for the Masters Championships will be placed accordingly

Neutral Service RACE 1 (Masters AB AND D) RACE 2 (Masters C AND E) Saturday Gep/BikeBus – Grant Philips Welwyn Wheelers: Richard Maynard & Francis Gallacher/ Dan Maynard Nuun-Sigma Sport – Cameron Fraser Colin Mann Sam Humpheson

Masters (F+) & NATIONAL CRRL 2-3-4 CATS WOMEN’S ROAD SERIES Sunday Gep/BikeBus – Grant Philips Welwyn Wheelers: Richard Maynard & Francis Gallacher/ Dan Maynard Colin Mann Aleck Hornshaw

Service only on the left hand side of the road. A minimum of 2 Crews will be available per race ie. 4 in total. At Race HQ, you will find them in the parking area in front of the HQ.

Neutral service will provide wheel changes and any reasonable mechanical assistance to aid you in returning to the peloton. They can only be of help if wheels are provided by you. Please remember that there is a limit to what they can carry – and if you need servicing, that you may not necessarily get your own wheel. Please also remember to collect your wheels afterwards. It is your responsibility to do so promptly after each race – and especially after the morning’s race, as the Crews have to prepare for the afternoon races.

For the National Women’s Road Series, all teams of 3 or more signed on riders must provide at least 1 pair of race wheels to Neutral Service.

For the Masters, no Team cars or any other cars will be allowed in the race convoy (Note: Nuun –Sigma Sport are however providing one of the Neutral Service crews).

For the National Women’s Road Series, 5 Team cars will be allowed in the convoy (in addition to 2 Neutral Service). Team Managers are reminded that requests to join the convoy should be received by the Race Director no later than 1700 on Friday 20 May. You will be required to produce your licence endorsed as Team Manager. You will be required to carry your own radio which must be compliant with UHF radio spec UK Light 449mhz. If you do not have such a radio, then unfortunately you cannot be a part of the convoy. Mobile phones are not a permitted alternate.

PLEASE NOTE: The race organisation will take reasonable steps to ensure that wheels are returned to the owners after the race, but due to the nature of the events during a cycle race, riders submitting wheels for use by Neutral Service are doing so at their own risk. The race organisation accepts no responsibility for, and will not be held liable for, any losses or damage that may occur.

FIRST AID: Provided by R.A.C.E - 2 mobile (2 person) crews led by Peter Nolan - 1 crew per race. If any rider is taken to hospital, or wishes to attend a Hospital A&E, the nearest and most likely is: Milton Keynes Hospital, Standing Way*, Milton Keynes MK6 5LD Tel: 01908 660033 *this is the A421 – head north from Race HQ; turn right at Bottle Dump Roundabout; continue for approx. 5 miles the Hospital is well signed, it will be on your left – journey time 10 minutes.

PRIZE PRESENTATION: This will take place as soon as possible after each race session has finished. First three riders in each race to present themselves at the podium area preferably in racing attire.

PRIZES: Will be listed on the day at Sign On. The National Masters Championships are primarily about medals, the jersey and the glory. The National Women’s Road Series (per regulations) has a minimum prize fund of £1000.

Our thanks to Andy Easterbrook of Wildoo/Velopac for providing Winners Musettes and a free Velopac for all riders. This is a locally based innovative cycling business just 3.3 miles from Race HQ. They will have a mini marquee next to the Briefing Gazebo – please do visit them. www.velopac.cc

We are anticipating additional prizes from several other sources, however until they arrive……... Please note that our potential prize fund is significantly reduced as we have to absorb high Traffic Management costs at Bottle Dump roundabout in order to use this particular course.

LICENCE POINTS The Masters National Championships are deemed Band 3 (as directed by BC, and see BC Handbook) Where more than one age group is in one race, points will be awarded per age group. Points will be given down to 15th place, from 30 points to 1 point.

The National Women’s Road Series is deemed Band 2 and Licence Points will be given down to 20th place from 60 to 1. In parallel the Road Series has points down to 20th place from 30 to 1.

The 2-3-4 cat race is Regional A with points down to 15th place from 30 to 1.

SUPPORT TEAM: Each day requires a Support Team of approximately 100 people. In total over the weekend there are over 130 people involved in staging these Championships to appropriate standards and safety. Most are unpaid volunteers - some from as far afield as Bristol, Whitstable, and Portsmouth. Many are giving up their whole weekend and almost some are fellow Championship riders. I would particularly like to highlight the huge support once again from the guys at CC Luton, Twickenham CC, TMG Horizon, Equipe Velo, Team Quest and my own club, North Bucks RC. Without all of them there would be no National Masters Championships. I am sure that all of the Support Team would welcome any signs of appreciation from you the Championship competitors.

RACE SAFETY – PLEASE READ THIS

SAFETY: Protection for the riders and convoy is provided by motor cycle marshal, 2 lead cars and a team of static Accredited and Traditional Marshals. With their (“lollipop”) signs, the Accredited Marshals do have the power to stop traffic. However, it is your responsibility to ride safely, with consideration to other road users, and to your fellow competitors.

PLEASE NOTE: The Safety cover for riders to race, is limited to when you are within the convoy ie. between the first lead car and the final vehicle in the race convoy – normally the First Aid vehicle. If you are dropped from the peloton and fall behind the First Aid vehicle you are no longer in the zone of safety cover provided by the race marshals. In such a situation, you cannot assume that marshals will be present at turns or junctions to indicate the way or stop traffic. It is your responsibility to follow the race route exactly. You must follow the normal rules of the road, follow the Highway Code and respect other road users when you are outside the protection of the race convoy.

This race is run under British Cycling's Technical Regulations and the Cycle Racing on the Highway Regulations. You ARE NOT permitted to breach traffic regulations while racing. Hard crash helmet is mandatory. Rider behaviour is CRITICAL to protecting the future of road racing in the UK. - You MUST abide by the highway code/rules of the road. - You ARE NOT on a closed road and - You WILL face oncoming traffic. - You ARE responsible for your own actions; they could have an impact on those in the peloton or other road users. - THINK about your position on the road; keep to the left; do not cross solid white lines and avoid crossing broken white lines. - Behave responsibly and safely - LEAD BY EXAMPLE. - Failure to do so will result in DISQUALIFICATION or the potential for the Race to be ABANDONED. ALL WORK TOGETHER TO PROTECT ROAD RACING IN THE UK.
