AREA OF IMPACT The serves youth in thirteen Metro-Atlanta counties, including Carroll, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Haralson, Newton, Paulding, Pickens, & Rockdale. Scoutreach is a division within the Council with an emphasis on growing the Scouting program in all areas by removing barriers to ensure that all youth have the opportunity to join Scouting. The Scoutreach program provides uniforms, transportation and professional leadership to Scouts and units that otherwise would not be able to participate in the adventures of Scouting. CAMP PROPERTIES The Atlanta Area Council owns and operates three top-tier camping facilities within driving distance of Atlanta. Sitting on 1,300 acres, Bert Adams Camp is a modern camping experience for new Scouts and experienced campers. On 1,545 acres, in the North Georgia Mountains, Woodruff Scout Camp has become the destination camp for Scouts and Venturers all across the South. Just north of Atlanta, Camp Allatoona Aquatics Base offers boating, swimming and training programs for Scouts and leaders alike. 1800 Circle 75 Parkway SE Atlanta, GA 30339 770-989-8820 www.atlantabsa.org SCOUT SPOTLIGHT: NIGEL Nigel Walker, a Scout from Troop 197, grew up in a single parent household. His mom put him in Scouting in hopes that he would make friends and stay out of trouble. He quickly learned the values and pillars of the Scout Oath and and says, “Today, I choose to continue to live by those values…to lead by example… to be there for those who seek to better themselves and be empowered by the strong words of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law.” As a young student Nigel says that he worked for every step of his journey. He earned scholarships to attend some of the best schools, where he earned a degree in Engineering and Finance at Vanderbilt University. He was awarded a fellowship from his alma mater to travel to 22 countries to study the impact of fatherhood by interviewing children and families about their fathers in each country - a subject close to his heart, as he reflected on his own father’s absence in his life. Nigel is now working for Teach for America as an Algebra teacher.
