Circle C Ranch lakewood NEIGHBORHOOD PROFILE Lakewood is a centrally located neighborhood in northwest Austin near the Pennybacker Bridge over Lake Austin near the intersection of Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway) and FM 2222. Lakewood is located just about 10 miles from downtown Austin, the State Capital, the University of Texas and three of Texas’ most popular recreational lakes. Lakewood is located near the junction of RM 2222 and Loop 360 in the beautiful Texas hill country. Lakewood is a part of the AISD school district. AISD is a diverse, urban district that is making great progress in student academic achievement. AISD is the fifth largest school district in Texas, and serves approximately 85,000 students at 128 schools. The District supports families that repre- sent more than 94 languages, and teaches seven languages other than English in their schools. Lakewood is a small, close-knit neighborhood with a clubhouse, playground, tennis courts, and swimming pool. It sits just below Jester Estates in the Bull Creek valley. Since this neighborhood is located on Loop 360, it is convenient to travel to most areas of town. Bicycling is one of Austinites’ favorite past times, and Loop 360 is one of the best routes. There are some off road trails for mountain biking nearby also. The Lakewood Community is near the Lake Austin Boat Ramp off Hwy 360 and just a 13 mile drive to Lake Travis. Lake Travis is probably the most visited of the Highland Lakes. Its location and size make it a popular destination for aquatic sport enthusiasts, including boating, fishing, swimming and even scuba diving. Lake Travis is perfect for those seeking a more active environment and plenty to do, including waterside dining and plenty of activities for adults and kids, as well as easy access to the Austin amenities. Lake Travis offers an unlimited amount of fun. In addition to the options listed above you can also go parasailing, zip lining, canoeing, or dine by sunset at many of the local restaurants. .

However, the degree of surface runoff alteration depends on the type of urban development in place. New urbanist developments are designed with higher densities and encourage a diversity of land uses, while traditional neighborhood developments have a monotone land use pattern with medium-to- low densities. Two neighborhoods within the city of Austin, Texas- Mueller, a new urbanist development, and Circle C Ranch, a tra- ditional neighborhood development- were used to study the effect of development type on potential surface runoff. Using satellite imagery coupled to the HEC-HMS model nested within the Watershed Modeling System (WMS), poten- tial surface runoff was calculated for the two different neighborhoods for a 10-year 24 hour storm scenario.
