Aces UP! 2012 Raises $100,000 for Urban Prep Academies Aces UP! 2012 raises $100,000 for Urban Prep Academies Urban Prep’s 6th Annual Aces UP! Charity Poker Tournament was hosted on Friday, November 30th at City Winery, one of Chicago’s newest entertainment and dining venues. Event hosts, Alexi Giannoulias, Richard Roeper, Tim King and Chris Zorich were back at it again with a first class event that raised $100,000 in support of Urban Prep Academies. Before the cards dropped, guests enjoyed a sumptuous buffet paired with luscious wines and endless premium spirits. This year’s lead sponsor, BNY Mellon Wealth Management added to the awesome prize pool for Aces UP! by raffling a holiday gift basket full of sophisticated goodies. Many guests also went “all-in” for an opportunity to sponsor a coveted red and gold striped tie for an Urban Prep senior with a special “Tie it UP” re-buy, giving tournament players additional chips for play. As the tournament dwindled to five players competing for a portion of the $10,000 prize pool, it was city of Chicago Alderman Richard Mell who claimed the grand prize. Having ousted a table of experienced poker players, Alderman Mell won the title and bragging rights of being this year’s tournament champion. Will he remain champ next year? Make sure you’re there to find out. Money raised at Aces UP! will go a long way toward helping Urban Prep’s students achieve their educational goals. • Aces up 2013 Raises Close to $100,000 for Urban Prep Academies
URBAN PREP ACADEMIES Aces UP 2013 raises close to $100,000 for Urban Prep Academies Urban Prep’s Seventh Annual Charity Poker Tournament was held on Thursday, November 14 at the Museum of Broadcast Media. Seven was certainly a lucky number for Urban Prep as hundreds of players and spectators came out to the event to enjoy fast-paced poker and support Urban Prep Academies, helping to raise close to $100,000 for the schools. Hosts Richard Roeper, Alexi Giannoulias, Chris Zorich and Urban Prep founder and CEO Tim King were back on the scene to keep the festivities lively. In addition to the Texas Hold ‘Em tourney, guests enjoyed delicious food and plentiful drinks. Many of the celebrity bounties were quickly knocked out of the game, a sign of the competitive spirit that night. While those guests received great prizes such as gift certificates for Uber Car Service and Rockit Bar and Grill, our raffle winners took home prizes like a seat in the Heartland Poker Tour, and a trip to Las Vegas, provided by sponsors 220 Communications and Majestic Star Casino. Plenty of players also chose to “Tie-it-UP” by purchasing a red and gold-striped tie (like the ones given to our seniors upon gaining admission to college) for the opportunity to receive chips equal to the chip leader at their table. By the end of the evening, the player’s pool had nar- rowed down to five players all competing for a piece of a prize pool valued at over $10,000, with the top prize going to Roberto Reyes, a first-time Aces UP! player.

URBAN PREP ACADEMIES Aces UP! 2010 raises $100,000 for Urban Prep Academies On Friday, August 27, 2010 Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, Urban Prep Founder & CEO Tim King, Chicago Sun-Times Columnist and TV/ Radio Personality Richard Roeper, and College Football Hall of Famer Chris Zorich hosted the 4th Annual Aces UP! Celebrity Charity Poker Tournament at the River East Art Center. This year’s event raised $100,000 in support of Urban Prep’s newest initiatives: The Urban Prep Fellows Program, which gives recent college graduates an opportunity to support the development of Urban Prep students, and the UP To and Through College Program, which supports Urban Prep alumni during their college years. Before action kicked off at the poker tables, guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a sumptuous buffet of sweet and savory delights. There was nothing sweet, however, about the fast-paced poker play that com- menced once the cards dropped. Urban Prep Founding Board Member Judith Armstead proved to be quite the poker shark when she knocked event host Richard Roeper out of the tournament, nabbing his “bounty” along with the three others he’d accumulated before being busted. Midway through the poker tournament Cindy Malone won the raffle grand prize: a beautiful watch donated by Tiffany & Co. and valued at $3,500. As we inched closer to 11 pm, the tournament dwindled to five players competing for a portion of the $10,000 prize pool. When Russell Johnson and David Melchioyne were ousted in fifth and fourth place respectively, the action really began to heat up.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Rasmussen talks GOP debate, Iowa straw poll this Sunday on radio powerhouses WMAL/Washington DC and WLS/Chicago Chicago, IL/ Washington DC– August 11, 2011 – The Rasmussen Report, the hour-long radio talk show hosted by public opinion pollster and analyst Scott Rasmussen, is set to air again this Sunday – and every Sunday this month – on the top news talk radio stations in Chicago and Washington DC. WMAL/630AM in Washington and WLS/890AM in Chicago will simulcast the show at 3pm ET/2pm CT for the next four weeks. During this week’s show, Rasmussen will discuss the just-concluded GOP debate, the Iowa straw poll, the sharp downturn in consumer and investor economic confidence, and invite listener call-ins. As usual, the program will offer insights on the wide gap between the opinions of mainstream Americans and their political leaders. “Scott attracts a very engaged and articulate audience,” according to Drew Hayes, Operations Director for WLS-AM and WMAL-AM. “His style allows for opposing views; and his command of opinion data helps provoke a really dynamic and thoughtful hour of discussion on the critical issues of the day. Our listeners are glad to have him back.” “Our website has become an interactive storehouse of opinion data and observation,” asserted Scott Rasmussen. “With the radio show, we are getting an opportunity to engage audiences in conversations about what the data is telling us and how it can be applied.” Previous broadcasts of The Rasmussen Report can downloaded from the stations: WMAL630AM or WLS/890AM. WLS -AM 890 Page 1 of 2 $17.7M settlement reached for formerShare cop this pagewho | suffered brain injury A $17.7 million settlement was approved last week in a medical negligence lawsuit filed by a former Stone Park police officer — now a quadriplegic — against the University of Illinois Medical Center and a nursing staffing agency. George Nissen, of Melrose Park, suffered a brain herniation when hospital staff failed to properly monitor his intracranial pressure during an external ventricular drain procedure, a release from attorneys Levin & Perconti said. Nissen, now 47, was admitted on Feb. 13, 2005 after suffering a stroke believed to be caused by an injury he suffered during an altercation while making an arrest as a Stone Park police officer. According to the release, due to the nursing staff's negligence, Nissen now suffers from quadriplegia, cannot eat or speak and can only communicate to family, friends and caregivers through eye movements and head shaking. Doctors inserted an external ventricular drain to drain excess fluid from his brain and on Feb. 21, his doctors ordered the nursing staff to test the the drain by clamping it to determine if he was stable enough to remove it, the release said. The suit claimed that during the procedure, nursing staff failed to properly monitor Nissen's intracranial presure. Throughout the night, his brain pressure was at dangerous levels, but his caregivers failed to recognize the changes in his condition or notify a doctor when levels rose. The lawsuit was filed against two UIC staff nurses, along with a healthcare staffing agency and an agency nurse who cared for Nissen that evening.
