Admission is selective. We believe that a student's GPA is the biggest predictor of their success in college. Our admission practices include taking an holistic review approach to each student’s application for admissions where we will do a thorough review of their rigor of courses, involvement, recommendation letters, demonstrated interest, and overall ability to match well with our academic environment. We strongly encourage students to interview with their Admissions Requirements admissions counselor either prior to or after submitting an application for admission as this helps us to further get to know the applicant. Additionally, each student's transcript will be evaluated to determine their unweighted, recalculated GPA using 16 core classes in English, mathematics, social science, laboratory science, and foreign language. This GPA along with our holistic practices as detailed above will be used to determine admissions and academic scholarship eligibility. The majority of admitted students will have a recalculated GPA of 3.0 or higher. Augustana College has been test optional since 2007. Our institutional research shows that ACT and SAT test scores don't supersede the academic performance of prospective students, nor do standardized test scores predict your future success in college. For fall 2021 applications, ACT Test Optional Status and SAT scores will be considered supplemental materials. Scores will only be considered if an applicant self-reports them or sends a score to Augustana directly from the testing agency. Students who apply test-optional will still be fully eligible for academic scholarships.

If you'll be entering EIU as a freshman in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021, you must meet these admission requirements: Admissions Requirements - A high school grade-point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale - SAT: 960 or ACT: 18 Please see below for information on requirements for the Fall 2021 semester. EIU's test-optional policy begins for Fall 2021 semester applicants. EIU will no longer require ACT/SAT test scores for admission to the University. Students can apply for Fall 2021 starting July 1, free of charge, for a limited time. Applicants with no test scores but who possess a 3.3 GPA and college prep work will meet admissions criteria. Those with no test scores and a 2.5 to Test Optional Status 3.29 GPA will have their credentials reviewed to determine eligibility for admission. Students may still submit test scores in order to be admitted using standard admissions criteria (minimum 2.5 GPA, 18 ACT or 960 SAT). The test-optional policy change was partly motivated by COVID-related disruption of standardized testing, and partly by a desire to eliminate unnecessary barriers to college admission faced by marginalized student groups. Admission for freshman applicants is based on a holistic review including high school grades, national college admission test results, successful completion of the pre-college curriculum and essay.
