Press Release STRICTLY FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY OS Upgrade Guideline for LG Android Phones: Q: How to Upgrade your current LG Optimus Smartphone with the new and updated operating system along with “Quick Memo” OS: “Quick Memo” can be installed in the following LG Smart Phones along with new OS – LG Optimus L3 (E400), LG Optimus L3 Dual (E405), LG Optimus L5 (E612), LG Optimus L5 Dual (E615), LG Optimus L7 (P705), LG Optimus 4X HD (P880), LG Optimus 3D Max (P725) and LG Prada 3.0 (P940) There are 2 ways to upgrade your current LG Optimus smartphone, the step-by-step process is mentioned below o Firmware upgrade via “Web Upgrade” o Firmware upgrade “Over the air” (FOTA) Step-by-step process for Web Upgrade: You will require the below: A computer with uninterrupted internet connection A data cable that connects your LG Smartphone to the computer A fully charged LG Smartphone 1. Visit the LG Mobile homepage (http://www.lg.com/ae) 2. Select “Support > Mobile Phone Support” 3. Find the model number of your phone. 4. Download “LG Mobile Support Tool to PC” 5. Click on “Software Update” and execute/install the “.exe” file (The LG Mobile Support Tool will be installed automatically) 6. Now connect your smartphone to the PC using the USB Cable 7. Click on the “LG Mobile support tool” app which is installed in your PC. The tool will automatically read the current OS of the phone and instruct you if a new OS is avail- able. 8. Click on “Start Updating” Note: The “Start Updating” button will be activated only if there is new software available 9. After completing the upgrade, unplug the phone. Step-by-Step process for Firmware Over The Air (FOTA): You will require the below: Uninterrupted Wi-Fi or 3G data connection (Preferably Wi-Fi) A fully charged LG Smartphone 1. In your smartphone, select “Menu” -> “Settings” -> “About Phone” 2. A little less than a month ago, Steve Jobs announced the long-awaited Apple iPhone. It was the hit of CES – even though it was announced at MacWorld in San Francisco, 400 miles northwest of CES in Las Vegas. The media and the blogosphere have been buzzing with endless questions and commentary ever since. Will anyone buy it at $500 and $600? Why only Cingular? Will it support Skype over WiFi, and if so, won’t Cingular object? Why does it have a non-removable battery? When will it support 3G rather than just EDGE? Will Apple win the trademark battle with Cisco? And so on… it’s endless. And I actually don’t care about any of those questions. What I do care about is the use of touch in the iPhone. When I saw it at MacWorld, it blew me away. I found it to be an exceptionally well-thought-out implementation of touch. Every gesture and every finger motion seemed natural, intuitive and obvious. In fact, it’s the best implementation of touch I think I’ve ever seen. And that’s really saying something. Before I dive into the details, I’d like to point out that this is an article about a product that won’t be available for at least five months (June 2007 is the announced availability date).

    How the iPhone Works from http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/iphone2.htm Multi-touch Systems To allow people to use touch commands that require multiple fingers, the iPhone uses a new arrangement of existing technology. Its touch-sensitive screen includes a layer of capacitive material, just like many other touch-screens. However, the iPhone's capacitors are arranged according to a coordinate system. Its circuitry can sense changes at each point along the grid. In other words, every point on the grid generates its own signal when touched and relays that signal to the iPhone's processor. This allows the phone to determine the location and movement of simultaneous touches in multiple locations. Because of its reliance on this capacitive material, the iPhone works only if you touch it with your fingertip -- it won't work if you use a stylus or wear non-conductive gloves. A mutual capacitance touch-screen contains a grid of sensing lines and driving lines to determine where the user is touching. A self capacitance screen contains sensing circuits and electrodes to determine where a user is touching. The iPhone's screen detects touch through one of two methods: Mutual capacitance or self capacitance. In mutual capacitance, the capacitive circuitry requires two distinct layers of material. One houses driving lines, which carry current, and the other houses sensing lines, which detect the current at nodes. Self capacitance uses one layer of individual electrodes connected with capacitance-sensing circuitry. Both of these possible setups send touch data as electrical impulses. (Muhammad Qasim Saeed) Date: 1 To Eve, who enjoys the most powerful status in information security. 2 Abstract Near Field Communication is a short-range wireless technology based on RFID stan- dard ISO 18092, ISO 14443 and ISO 15693. This means, it provides compatibility with the millions of contactless smartcards and RFID scanners that already exist worldwide. NFC is now available on the phones and this integration has resulted in a sharp rise in its utility. An NFC-enabled cell phone acts as an RFID reader to read compatible RFID tags (NFC tags), such as smart posters. The same cell phone can also be used as an NFC tag storing relevant data. In this case, a cell phone transforms into a digital wallet storing bank cards (money), vouchers, loyalties card etc., at a secure place called `Secure Element'. Abuse of NFC technology is also on sharp rise because of large num- ber of users and inadequate security standards. This thesis looks at security issues of NFC and RFID and provides mechanisms to improve the security features. NFC Fo- rum (an association for developing NFC standards) released the signature specification in 2010 describing rules to digitally sign the NFC tag's contents.

At this event we saw several new smartphones unveiled and many of these models are now available to the public. There are however still a few models that are still to be launched. One such handset is the new LG Optimus 4X HD but news has now surfaced about the UK launch of this device. At the MWC LG would not confirm whether this handset would actually be launched in the UK. It now seems that the manufacturers are looking to release the model in June this year, much to the delight of smartphone fans. The model is the new flagship handset in the LG range and boasts a number of features that the developers hope will help the model compete with some of the leading phones on the market such as the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S3. When we saw the model at the MWC we were very impressed by both the design and the performance that this model offered. LG have always produced high quality devices but the Optimus 4X HD surpassed every other model that we have ever seen from the company. Speaking about the new model Dr Jong Seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company, commented "As the smartphone segment consolidates even further, it’s becoming more and more apparent that both great software and great hardware are crucial to stay on top of the game.
