„„ ABSTRACT. The type specimens of Sarcophagidae housed in the collection of Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia” (MACN) are listed. A total of 82 type specimens were examined. The types belong to 33 nominal species of Sarcophaginae described by E. E. Blanchard (25 species), J. Brèthes (3), H. Lopes (4), and T. Pape (1). For each taxon, information on the labels, original publications and conditions of the specimens are given.

Introduction in the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia” (MACN) The family Sarcophagidae has a is the greatest repository of type-material of worldwide distribution and is one this family in Argentina, and represents a of the most biologically diverse significant resource for researchers interested families of calyptrate flies, containing in Neotropical Sarcophagidae. sarcosaprophagous and parasitic species The information concerning type (Lopes, 1969; Pape, 1996). According to materials deposited in institutions is useful in Pape (1996) more than 2500 species have taxonomic researches and as a preparation been described, and approximately more for databasing the collections. These listings than 600 of them are Neotropical. have been recommended by the International The type collection of Sarcophagidae Code of Zoological Nomenclature
