As a World War II veteran, I am well aware of the many sacrifices of Americans who were involved in submarine service, including the loss of more than 3,500 men and 52 vessels. I want you to know that I am in total accord with the objectives and purposes of the United Submarine Veterans of World War II as set forth in Section Three of S. 195 - patriotism and loyalty to the United States of America, establishment of memorials to the memor y of your lost shi pmates, promotion of spirit and unity, and public education to increase -- awareness of life aboard submarines during World , ~ ar II by displ aying the submarines tha t were in service then.
