Esporte e Sociedade ano 11, n 27, março/2016 McLaren conta a sua história Venancio McLaren conta a sua história na Fórmula 1: Representações discursivas do automobilismo em Tooned 50 Rafael Duarte Oliveira Venancio Universidade Federal de Uberlândia Resumo: O presente texto pretende analisar o modo pelo qual a escuderia McLaren de Fórmula 1 contou sua história de cinqüenta anos na categoria através de um desenho animado postado no YouTube intitulado Tooned 50. A ideia aqui apresentada é que essa forma pouco usual de contar a sua própria história, inclusive modificando a mise en scène para que a narrativa se adapte aos interesses atuais da equipe, apresentam um discurso sobre a McLaren e sobre a Fórmula 1 que emergem de uma construção clara de ethos discursivo associada a uma cenografia enunciativa com valorização de sua topografia e sua cronografia. E quando nasce o Grand Prix, ele já nasce velho. Afinal, o primeiro Grand Prix a ganhar tal nome foi o francês, de 1906, realizado em Le Mans que teve o curioso nome oficial de Nono Grand Prix do Automobile Club de France. Isso acontece por que os jornais franceses e o próprio ACF quiseram inventar uma tradição, “uma ficção saída simplesmente do desejo infantil de estabelecer o Grand Prix deles como a corrida mais antiga do mundo” (HODGES, 1967, 3). Assim, o primeiro “Grand Prix” se torna a corrida Paris-Bordeaux-Paris de 1895, que de fato foi uma pioneira, porém difícil demarcar enquanto primeira, corrida de carros à moda do Grand Prix. -

Mirroring the launch of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4- 28 Formula 1™ car from earlier this year, the celebrations saw a parade of some of the most iconic race- and championship-winning McLarens from across the decades. The celebrations were marked by current Vodafone McLaren Mercedes drivers Jenson Button and Sergio Perez, who took part in the display in the two latest models from McLaren Automotive. Perez arrived in the 3,000th production 12C – a 12C Spider finished in striking Volcano Yellow, while 2009 Formula 1™ world champion Jenson Button showcased the McLaren P1™ in front of the entire McLaren Group staff, dressed in Rocket Red t-shirts to honour the landmark occasion. 2 September 1963: the birth of a racing legend Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited was formally incorporated on September 2 1963, when the 26-year-old New Zealander mustered together a small crew of committed individuals to design, build and race cars bearing his own name, operating from a small, cramped workshop in New Malden, Surrey. -

The Orange Times Bruce McLaren Trust Sept. / Oct. / Nov. 2016, Issue #15 One of the most intriguing projects that we have worked on recently has been the new children’s book about Bruce. Author Dreydon Sobanja and artist Murray Dewhurst approached us nearly two years ago and early November saw a busy week of launches, events and promotion of this wonderful book. First stop was a book reading for the nine year-olds at Meadowbank Primary School (Bruce’s first school). The children were amazing with their knowledge of Bruce and, with TV3’s Shaun Summerfield and film crew on site, there was fierce competition in the classroom to be interviewed and appear on TV. Then it was the first of the actual launch functions - this was held at the McLaren Auckland dealership and hosted by Sir Colin Giltrap. Our MC for the evening was well- known sporting commentator, and long-time BM Trust supporter, Peter Montgomery. McLaren Auckland is an amazing venue and, along with media, close associates and friends, “Bruce wants to go Faster” was well received with virtually all guests leaving with a copy or two in hand. The following evening we did the second launch at the Remuera Library, again a beautiful location and a Remuera historic building of similar era to the old McLaren’s Service Station, circa 1926. With the library having McLaren family history as well, the location was very apt. TV and Radio NZ interviews followed, (click here to listen) then a children’s book reading at the Remuera Library. Our final event was at the Bruce McLaren Retirement Village where many of the residents could totally relate to the era of young Bruce’s escapades. -
