The information contained below is general information for applicants. Registered patients may purchase marijuana, marijuana infused products, hemp-infused products, seeds, and clones from a registered dispensary. Registered patients may designate a dispensary to purchase marijuana and may cultivate marijuana. Registered patients may only change dispensaries every 30 days. After 30 days, a registered patient may change his or her designated dispensary by submitting a completed Cardholder Update/Replacement ID Form and a $25 processing fee. The VMR will issue the registered patient a new registry identification card with a new registry identification number. ALL registered patients and caregivers MUST schedule appointments prior to going to their designated dispensary to obtain marijuana, this includes seed and clones. There are currently five registered dispensaries operating in Vermont; Champlain Valley Dispensary in Burlington and South Burlington, Grassroots Vermont in Brandon, PhytoCare Vermont in Bennington, and Vermont Patients Alliance in Montpelier. Gardner, and Earl Jones Jr.a ABSTRACT This Stimuli article analyzes the need for public quality standards for medical cannabis (defined herein as marijuana used for medical purposes under state laws) and the potential role of the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) in addressing that need.1 Following legalization of the medical use of cannabis in several U.S. states and internationally, USP has received requests to investigate the advisability and feasibility of developing quality standards for medical cannabis. Development of quality standards for medical cannabis requires consideration of a wide range of scientific, legal, and policy issues that reach far beyond its classification as a botanical drug or herbal medicine. This article discusses the current regulatory and scientific landscape regarding medical cannabis, identifies issues related to the lack of quality standards for medical cannabis, and explores potential options for developing quality standards. USP seeks input from stakeholders on whether USP should proceed with development of quality standards for medical cannabis and if so, what approaches should be utilized to establish such standards. LEGAL AND REGULATORY LANDSCAPE The federal and state regulatory environment surrounding the medical use of cannabis involves many federal agencies and various different state laws. The evolving legal environment is an important consideration when evaluating the advisability and feasibility of USP developing a public standard for cannabis.

(Cannabaceae), although the term has been applied to dozens of species representing at least 22 genera, often prominent fiber crops. For examples, Manila hemp (abaca) is Musa textilis Née, sisal hemp is Agave sisalina Perrine, and sunn hemp is Crotolaria juncea L. Especially confusing is the phrase “Indian hemp,” which has been used both for narcotic Asian land races of C. sativa (so-called C. indica Lamarck of India) and Apocynum cannabinum L., which was used by North American Indians as a fiber plant. Cannabis sativa is a multi-purpose plant that has been domesticated for bast (phloem) fiber in the stem, a multi-purpose fixed oil in the “seeds” (achenes), and an intoxicating resin secreted by epidermal glands. The common names hemp and marijuana (much less frequently spelled mari- huana) have been applied loosely to all three forms, although historically hemp has been used primarily for the fiber cultigen and its fiber preparations, and marijuana for the drug cultigen and its drug preparations. The current hemp industry is making great efforts to point out that “hemp is not marijuana.” Italicized, Cannabis refers to the biological name of the plant (only one species of this genus is commonly recognized, C. sativa L.). Non-italicized, “cannabis” is a generic abstraction, widely used as a noun and adjective, and commonly (often loosely) used both for cannabis plants and/or any or all of the intoxicant preparations made from them.

Therefore, any drugs which act in an additive or synergistic fashion with opioids to address medical applications have the potential to reduce opioid- related harms. Objectives To determine if heroin and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) interact in an additive or independent manner to alter nociception, body temperature, and spontaneous locomotor activity when inhaled or injected. Methods Groups of female and male rats, implanted with radiotelemetry transmitters, were exposed to vapor generated from heroin (50 mg/mL in propylene glycol vehicle; PG), THC (50 mg/mL), or the combination for assessment of efects on temperature and activity. Thermal nociception was assessed with a warm water tail-withdrawal assay. Results Heroin inhalation increased temperature and activity whereas THC inhalation decreased temperature and activity in both female and male Sprague–Dawley rats. Efects of combined inhalation were in opposition, and additional experiments found the same outcome for the injection of heroin (0.5 mg/kg, s.c.) and THC (10 mg/kg, i.p.) alone and in combination.
