Its parish contains only 518 inhabitants, though it has about 3700 acres of land, all belonging to Sir Edward Vavasour, Bart., the lord of the manor, tlxcept 50 acres of glebe, and 5 acres at Creswell, occupied by the owner. !rhe Church (St. Margaret,) stands on an eminence near the village. The nave was rebuilt in 1727, and restored in 1849-50, when the chancel was :rebuilt, and the whole fabric thoroughly repaired, at a great expense, to wards which a lady gave £1000. In the mortuary chapel are several monu~ ments and effigies of the Draycott family. The chancel has two stained glass windows, and a pavement of encaustic tiles. The rectory valued in K.B. at £9. 6s. Sd., and now at £452, is in the patronage of Sir Edward Vavasour, and incumbency of the Rev. C. W. Stocker, D.D., who has a :pleasant residence in the centre of the glebe. Near the church is the parish Johool.
