Mental Health Awareness Week Mental Health Awareness week provided a fantastic opportunity for the PE department to raise the profile of leading a healthy active lifestyle and the benefits of exercise to mental, physical and social well-being.

We used twitter and school noticeboards to send out positive vibes and spread messages:

Sport and physical activity is so powerful in shaping lives: For as long as I can remember I have loved sport. Whether it was hitting a tennis ball against the side of the house after school or making a go-kart out of an old child’s car seat and imagining I was part of a bobsleigh team running at full pelt down the driveway and recording the time. Getting involved in physical activity for me has always acted as a stress relief from everyday challenges and the pressures of school, work and personal life. I still play hockey with girls that I grew up with playing school fixtures and after over 20 years of friendship I look back at how sport has played a huge part in my life, shaping who I am and who I want to be.

I am not ashamed to admit how much I have taken sport for granted, both recreational and competitive ... it’s so powerful. It has brought me lifelong friendships, an outlet - a stress relief, improved my self-esteem alongside allowing me to break down barriers and develop my confidence. LEADERSHIP

Dallas Road Leadership Programme

A group of Year 10 students have been delivering sports and physical activities to Dallas Road Primary School’s Year 1, 2, 5, and 6 students on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtime. The girls have split in to groups delivering mini-games including dodgeball, skipping, and fitness-suite exercise. The most popular activity, amongst boys and girls, was football.
