UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN 5 Spring Convocation 2015 Our ceremony The convocation ceremony is a calling together of the new graduates of the University of Saskatchewan, symbolizing the historical practice of calling together all former graduates. In current times, the major functions of convocation are the election of representatives to university governing bodies and the admission of candidates to degrees. The chancellor, appointed by senate as the chair of convocation, is the highest official and spokesperson of the university. The convocation ceremony marks the transition from the role of student to the holder of a degree with its accompanying rights and privileges. The ceremony, solemnized in the presence of the university community and family and friends of the graduands, consists of three parts: a procession marking the leaving of the old status and entering the new; the president’s statement to the graduands, the secretary’s petition and the chancellor’s consent for their admission; followed by individual presentation by a university orator and admission by the chancellor to the degrees to which they are entitled. As graduates are admitted to their degrees, a graduation hood, which has a colour symbolizing a particular degree, is placed over each graduate’s head. UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN 6 Spring Convocation 2015 ENTRANCE Graduands in their academic dress march in procession into the ceremony in the following order: graduands in the order in which their degrees are to be conferred; faculty; board of governors; senate; guests of honour; the president; the chancellor; the lieutenant governor. 2017-18 ANNUAL REPORT His Honour, the Honourable W. Thomas Molloy, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan May it Please Your Honour: I respectfully submit the Annual Report of the Government House Foundation for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018. The Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff Minister Responsible The Foundation supports Government House by raising funds to invest into the for the Provincial preservation of this important Provincial Heritage Property and National Capital Commission Historic Site. The Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff Minister Responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission The Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff Minister of Central Services Minister Responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Legislative Building Regina SK S4S 0B3 Dear Mr. Cheveldayoff: It is my privilege to submit the annual report of the Government House Foundation for the year ending March 31, 2018. During 2016-2017, the trustees had engaged a consulting firm to consider options for fundraising. The consultant’s report, submitted to the board in March 2017, advised against holding a capital campaign at this time. It recommended instead a number of measures to increase community awareness of Government House and the Foundation and to develop the Foundation’s organizational structure, before embarking on further fund-raising activities. Accordingly, in 2017-2018 the Foundation, with the help of a professional facilitator, reviewed its mandate, structure, goals and strategic priorities. A fund-raising committee of the board assessed the potential and the means for attracting donations towards the capital needs of Government House. The Foundation also initiated quarterly meetings with the other partners in Government House – the Government House Historical Society, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, and the Provincial Capital Commission – to coordinate activities on behalf of the House and offer mutual support.

  • Commencement [2002]
uu Sunday, May nineteen two thousand two Digitized by the Internet Archive in 2013 http://archive.org/details/commencement20022002univ Commencement The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Sunday, May nineteen two thousand two The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Greetings from the Chancellor Dear Graduates: My warmest congratulations to each of you on reaching this wonderful milestone in your life! You have invested much time and work, and I hope you are proud to receive your Carolina degree. I am sure your family members and friends are thrilled to see you graduate. I speak for the University's faculty and staff when I say that we are proud of you, too. The 2002 commencement feels different from others in the recent past. All of us received a harsh reminder last September of how tenuous human life can be. Yet, in the days immediately after September 1 1 , Carolina students affirmed life by seizing opportunities - in classes, in informal dis- cussions and in the arts - to interpret and assimilate what happened on the day our nation was attacked. Daily life in Chapel Hill has returned to calm, but we now live with a new sense that peace is more uncertain than we ever knew. It is also a great blessing. My hope for you is that you will live each day, through good times and hard times, with a sense of purpose and fulfillment and optimism. If your education has strengthened the foundation on which you build your life, then I take terrific satisfaction in that. And as you build a career or a family or both, I hope your Carolina degree will be a means for you to enjoy personal prosperity - and much more.
