Roading projects update

Ōmokoroa Road Urbanisation Stage 1 (Western Ave to Tralee St)

Since our March update, work continues along the berm on the eastern and western sides, in preparation for roadway and pavement construction to start this September.

We were also pleased to announce earlier this month that we are extending the undergrounding of power on Ōmokoroa Road. This work will be undertaken by Northpower Limited and J Swap and will involve the full undergrounding of power lines from the Western Ave Reserve through to the Country Estate https://mailchi.mp/westernbay/omokoroa-peninsula-projects-latest-updates-april2021?e=[UNIQID] 3/12 6/15/2021 Ōmokoroa Peninsula Projects – April update Boundary, as part of Stage 1 of the Ōmokoroa Road urbanisation project.

The undergrounding of the power lines is expected to occur in the next few months, as part of the enabling works involving stormwater connections, footpath and cycleway, kerbing and channelling on Ōmokoroa Road. You can read more about this here.

What to expect next:

Continued undergrounding of services in May 2021, including power. Further construction on stormwater connections, footpath and cycleway, kerbing and channelling. Construction of the roadway and pavement from the Western Avenue end of the roadway to Tralee Street from September 2021 to June 2022.

Ōmokoroa railway pedestrian and cycleway bridges

Physical work by contractor HEB Construction continues on the two standalone pedestrian and cycleway bridges adjacent to the existing Ōmokoroa Road bridge over the railway line. The first pile has been installed on the south eastern end, and HEB is now working on the western side. https://mailchi.mp/westernbay/omokoroa-peninsula-projects-latest-updates-april2021?e=[UNIQID] 4/12 6/15/2021 Ōmokoroa Peninsula Projects – April update

Council is reviewing the pedestrian cycle design from the Kaimai Views roundabout to Tralee Street, with the objective of providing better walking and cycling facilities on the western side to complement the eastern side of the road.

What to expect next:

Once the piles have been installed, work will begin on the super structure (beams and deck) for the two bridges. The works are expected to be completed by June 2021. Traffic management remains in place for the duration of the project and HEB is in contact with neighbouring properties in the event there are any expected disruptions to traffic flow or access over the duration of the project.

About the Ōmokoroa Peninsula Projects

By 2060, the Ōmokoroa peninsula will be fully developed and home to an estimated 12,000 residents. To cater for this significant growth and the need for continuing improvements to the peninsula’s infrastructure, we’re undertaking a series of projects – roading, reserves, cycleways, stormwater, building and planning – between now and 2022.

The roll-out of the projects across Ōmokoroa follow sound planning work and reflect the spatial planning needed to support all land use development in Ōmokoroa in the years to come.
