Every year BIBM prepares Academic Calendar incorporating its regular Professional Development Programs, Education and Research Programs such as Roundtable Discussion, Seminar and International Conference. Calendar preparation process of BIBM starts with the formation of Academic Calendar Committee comprising its faculty members. The committee, after in-house consultation and careful examination of comments of last year’s participants, prepares a draft list of the training courses, training workshops, research workshops, review workshops and research projects etc. to be included in the Academic Calendar for the next year. Then the draft is finalized in a Need Assessment Meeting with the participation of head of the training institutes, the HR departments and other representatives of all member banks of BIBM. After finalizing the draft of the Academic Calendar, it is placed before the BIBM Executive Committee. Accommodating the recommendations of the BIBM Executive Committee, the proposed academic activities are placed before the Governing Board for final approval. The activities of BIBM have been expanded, enriched and transformed over the years, specially over the last few years. In the beginning, BIBM had to concentrate on training of the entry-level officers due to absence of appropriate training infrastructure in the banking industry. However, with the passage of time it assumed the responsibility of imparting training to the mid and senior level officials of the banking sector. In the early nineties, the financial sector of Bangladesh underwent a number of reform measures as part of Financial Sector Reform Program (FSRP) and structural adjustment in the economy. In response to these reforms, the banking sector of Bangladesh demanded up-gradation of capabilities of managerial-level officials as the banks expanded their horizon of operations. Practically, growing expansion, cross-country linkages, and crises experiences have continuously been contributing in reshaping and transforming the global banking activities. In line with that, BIBM regularly updates its training areas, contents and methods. Especially, introduction of research based professional development programs brought notable transformational changes in the research activities of BIBM. And, by the time these programs (Review Workshops and Research Workshops) received tremendous appreciation of the banking community. BIBM has launched a joint certification course on “Certified Expert in Risk Management” with Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Germany and four other certification courses on “Certified Expert in Trade Services”; “Certified Expert in Credit Management”; “Certified Expert in Anti-Money Laundering and Financial Crime (CEAF)” and “Certified Expert in E-Banking (CEEB)”. Moreover, the institute has launched two certification programs jointly with Moody’s on “Certificate in Commercial Credit (CICC)” and ‘Certificate in SME Credit (CiSMEC). Moreover, BIBM has been conducting feasibility study to launch another Certification Program in the specialized area of Islamic Banking. In 1997, BIBM entered into highly specialized professional education program through offering a post-graduate program in bank management - the MBM. Initially, the program was conducted during day time. Later on, responding to the demand from in-service professionals, MBM-Evening program was launched. Initially the programs were run under CPGS (Center for Post Graduate Studies) Academic Calendar 2021 BIBM| i affiliated with National University. In 2012, University of Dhaka has given fresh affiliation to Dhaka School of Bank Management (DSBM) to run MBM programs at BIBM. Beside training education, BIBM's current activities include undertaking research, organizing seminars and international conferences and publishing reports on the issues relevant to the banking and financial sector. BIBM publishes Bank Parikrama (a quarterly journal), Banking Research Series (a yearly publication of the keynote papers of BIBM research workshops), Banking Review Series (a yearly publication of the review workshop papers), Research Monographs (publications of the BIBM research projects), Risk Enlightenment (A Bulletin on Risk Management), BIBM Bulletin (a quarterly publication) and Lecture on ‘Ethics in Banking’ (a compilation of memorial lecture on Banking Ethics), and Lecture on “Central Banking” on a regular basis. Till the year 2020, BIBM trained a total of 98,369 officers of banks and financial institutions, and in 2020, the number of attendees in training programs was 4556. Moreover, 2922 mid and senior level bankers took part in the review workshop, research workshop, seminar and research based/discussion programs. Further, 953 MBM graduates passed out from BIBM during the period 1997-2020 and almost all of them have joined the banking profession. Besides, 373 MBM-Evening graduates passed out from BIBM since inception in 2006. During the pandemic situation, BIBM was not refrained from its activities, rather switched all of its on-campus activities into on-line platform using Zoom. The responses from the audience in this on-line platform were tremendous. BIBM organizes Annual Banking Conference, Regional Banking Conference, two lecture programs titled “Ethics in Banking” and “Central Banking” every year. The institute also organizes special training programs and provides support in recruiting bank officials in response to the special requisition of our member banks. Following the regular process of formulating Academic Calendar of BIBM, a draft Academic Calendar was presented by the Academic Calendar Committee in the Need Assessment Meeting held in November, 2020 chaired by DG, BIBM. The Academic Calendar of BIBM for the year 2021 has been approved by the Governing Board for onward implementation. I congratulate Academic Calendar Committee and BIBM colleagues for successfully accomplishing the task of finalizing and printing the Academic Calendar 2021. Despite consultation with the stakeholders, some of the training needs might remain unaddressed. BIBM welcomes suggestions from all concerned for inclusion of unaddressed Banking Sector issues and committed to further improvement of its activities. (Dr. Md.
