Wherever possible, in addition to the name and address of the school, infonnation is given on the year instruction commenced, conditions of admission, duration of studies, name of degree or diploma awarded, language of instruction, the number of stu dents admitted in 1970, and the number who graduated in that year. In order to facilitate more frequent revision, the present volume includes only those schools listed by the governments of the countries in which they are located as recog nized institutions of education that confer a medical degree or diploma. The Directory has been prepared as a bilingual publication, in English and French. In the case of countries whose national language uses the Roman alpha bet the names and addresses of schools are given in that language. Where the national language uses non-Roman characters, the names and addresses are given in either English or French, depending on which of those languages was used in answering the original WHO questionnaire that was sent to governments and individual schools. · For the medical institutes of the USSR, the names and addresses are translit erated in accordance with the system recommended by the International Organi zation for Standardization. Some countries - for example, Japan and the Republic of Korea - have used their own system of transliteration in indicating the names and addresses of their medical schools and in denoting the degree or diploma awarded. The schools are listed alphabetically as follows: (1) by country (in English alphabetical order) ; (2) by city (exceptions are Brazil, Canada, India, the USSR, and the USA - where the schools are listed first under the province, state, or republic, as the case may be, and then under the city - and the United Kingdom, which has been subdivided into England and Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland) ; and (3) by institution. Although every effort has been made to check the accuracy and completeness of the infonnation provided, in a publication of this kind some imperfections are inevitable. The Division of Health Manpower Development, World Health Organization, I 21 J Geneva 27, would welcome notification of any errors or omissions. 2018 / Vol. 3 / Issue 3 (Sept-Dec 2018) 3 GMC Global Eye Official Newsletter of Gandhi Medical College Global Alliance Nvember September–December 2018 Editorial Mr. Gunaranjan Founding President, United Care Development Services United Care Development Services (UC) www.yousee.in has been engaged with its volunteer service initiatives at Gandhi Hospital since 2012. The scope and scale of work at Gandhi Hospital has grown over the years, working collaboratively with Volunteers, Hospital Administration and several partner NPOs like Seva Bharathi, Meenakshi Venkataraman Foundation (MVF), Gandhi Medical College Global Alliance (GMCGA) and Gandhi Medical College Alumni Association (GMCAA). The work has also been supported by individual donors and institutional donors that include United Way of Hyderabad and in a very significant manner in the past three years, by the Tata Trusts. A few significant areas of service that UC is currently engaged in are providing through donor support nearly 25 Nurses for enhancing services at the Medical ICU of Gandhi Hospital, the busiest ICU at Gandhi Hospital, in partnership with Seva Bharathi, providing nearly 20 staff to man helps desks at the Out-Patient Block, Emergency Block and the Labor Room Complex of Gandhi Hospital, and assisting MVF in its newborn hearing screening and intervention program. To enhance the quality of care for the patients, UC recently commenced a Nursing Assistant Skills program in the Emergency Block, wherein about 40-50 patient attendants at the Emergency Block are trained daily in some basic Nursing Assistant Skills at the small skills lab created in the Emergency Block of Gandhi Hospital. The experience and learning gained at Gandhi Hospital has helped UC to sharpen and expand its healthcare services and open-source healthcare IT solutions, to nearly 35 Government Hospitals across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, and also to other the free healthcare providing institutions like the initiatives run by the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organizations.

  • AEC) Became Intertwined with Planning for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations
History of the Alumni Education Center and the Formation of the Gandhi Medical College Global Alliance The idea of creating something special, with an enduring legacy for our alma mater (“nourishing mother”), was conceived by Ravinder Surakanti, a former President of GMC student union, now a practicing internist in Crawfordsville, IN, USA. The seed for this idea was sowed in the mind of Ravinder Surakanti, even as the preparations for Gandhi Medical College Golden Jubilee Celebrations had started. Following this, the evolution of Gandhi Medical College Global Alliance (GMCGA), and the building of the Alumni Education Center (AEC) became intertwined with planning for the Golden Jubilee Celebrations. Ravinder Surakanti was made the Chair of a Committee to prepare for this event of Golden Jubilee by the then President of the Osmania University Alumni Association (OUMA), Jagan Ailinani. In June 2002, Ravinder Surakanti presented a concept plan for the Alumni Education Center (AEC) during an AAPI meeting in San Antonio, TX. Two months later, this concept was again discussed at a wedding gathering in Cleveland, OH. During that briefing, Ravinder sought volunteers and drafted Sudhaker Rao to head an ad hoc committee to study the feasibility of such a project. Sudhaker Rao requested Vithal Kusuma to serve as its co-chair, to which the latter kindly agreed. An ad hoc committee was formed with approximately 20-25 Gandhi Medical College (GMC) alums. The committee consisted of the following members: Narsingam Gatla, Govind Rao, Vithal Kusuma, Babu Ramdev, Koppolu Sarma, and Sudhakar Rao. Advisors: Raja Reddy, Gopal Kishan, Vidyasagar Dharmapuri, and Ravinder Surakanti.

TERRORIST AND ORGANIZED CRIME GROUPS IN THE TRI-BORDER AREA (TBA) OF SOUTH AMERICA A Report Prepared by the Federal Research Division, Library of Congress under an Interagency Agreement with the Crime and Narcotics Center Director of Central Intelligence July 2003 (Revised December 2010) Author: Rex Hudson Project Manager: Glenn Curtis Federal Research Division Library of Congress Washington, D.C. 205404840 Tel: 2027073900 Fax: 2027073920 E-Mail: [email protected] Homepage: http://loc.gov/rr/frd/ p 55 Years of Service to the Federal Government p 1948 – 2003 Library of Congress – Federal Research Division Tri-Border Area (TBA) PREFACE This report assesses the activities of organized crime groups, terrorist groups, and narcotics traffickers in general in the Tri-Border Area (TBA) of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay, focusing mainly on the period since 1999. Some of the related topics discussed, such as governmental and police corruption and anti–money-laundering laws, may also apply in part to the three TBA countries in general in addition to the TBA. This is unavoidable because the TBA cannot be discussed entirely as an isolated entity. Based entirely on open sources, this assessment has made extensive use of books, journal articles, and other reports available in the Library of Congress collections. It is based in part on the author’s earlier research paper entitled “Narcotics-Funded Terrorist/Extremist Groups in Latin America” (May 2002). It has also made extensive use of sources available on the Internet, including Argentine, Brazilian, and Paraguayan newspaper articles. One of the most relevant Spanish-language sources used for this assessment was Mariano César Bartolomé’s paper entitled Amenazas a la seguridad de los estados: La triple frontera como ‘área gris’ en el cono sur americano [Threats to the Security of States: The Triborder as a ‘Grey Area’ in the Southern Cone of South America] (2001).
