E non vi è ricambio. Non è questa la sede in cui dibattere la questione, che resta essenziale. Cerchiamo per l’intanto di ovviare proponendo con maggiore frequenza il cosiddetto “grande repertorio” (inauguriamo con Beethoven, chiudiamo con Cˇajkovskij e Brahms), cosa che riteniamo utile anche per un’orchestra che certo vanta grandissima duttilità nel frequentare brani diversissimi, ma che come tutte le buone orchestre deve essere ancorata a quelle sinfonie e concerti che rappresentano “l’ossatura” di un complesso orchestrale. Non per questo tralasceremo la suddetta elasticità: nei concerti che svolgeremo per Rai NuovaMusica, per MITO Settembre Musica, per la Biennale di Venezia Direzione e per Contemporary si eseguiranno pezzi nuovi e nuovissimi, alcuni dei quali Produzione TV commissionati dalla Rai stessa. Ma torniamo alla stagione, che come di consueto sarà interamente trasmessa da Radio 3 e per più di un terzo anche dalla televisione. Con la partecipazione Direttore: Andrea Lorusso Caputi di attori noti (Klaus Maria Brandauer, Paolo Poli), con soluzioni semisceniche Responsabile del Centro di Produzione TV di Torino: (L’enfant et les sortilèges) speriamo di invogliare e attrarre. Ci aiutano gli Aldo Pellegrini anniversari: nel 2009 quelli di Haydn e Mendelssohn, nel 2010 quelli di Chopin e Schumann. E dunque legati a questi compositori (ma non solo) concerti con solisti che ovviamente rappresentano un richiamo: pianisti come Radu Lupu (per Schumann), Arcadi Volodos (Brahms), Louis Lortie (Chopin), Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai Piotr Anderszewski (Mozart e Schumann), Hüseyn Sermet (Cˇajkovskij), Angela Hewitt (Bach) e ancora il violoncello di Natalia Gutman per Schumann e quello di Enrico Dindo per Haydn, e poi alcuni fra i più grandi violinisti della scena Sovrintendente: Michele dall’Ongaro internazionale: Leonidas Kavakos in Bach e Stravinskij, Nicolaj Znaider per Direttore artistico: Cesare Mazzonis Mendelssohn, la giovanissima Sayaka Shoji su Paganini. Segretario generale: Tiziano Lanciarini Presenti, fra i direttori, passati protagonisti delle nostre stagioni: Frühbeck de Burgos con un programma beethoveniano e Jeffrey Tate con l’Elias di Mendelssohn, L’enfant et les sortilèges di Ravel e un terzo concerto dedicato a Mozart e ai tre celebrati Haydn, Mendelssohn e Schumann; presente un affermato direttore come James Conlon, oltre a diversi nomi apprezzati nelle scorse stagioni. E qualche giovane talento (ad esempio Diego Matheuz, assistente di Claudio Abbado e proveniente dalla benemerita Orchestra Simón Bolívar, come già Gustavo Dudamel oggi affermatissimo) che desideriamo presentare. Fra gli italiani Oleg Caetani, Roberto Abbado e Nicola Luisotti, che ha debuttato con i Berliner Philharmoniker ed è stabile a San Francisco. Quanto ai programmi si sono già chiarite le intenzioni: da segnalare un filo rosso che lega tutte le esecuzioni schumanniane dove, nel nome di Mignon, collaboreremo con l’Unione Musicale, il Goethe Institut e l’Università, augurandoci che questo tipo di impresa comune cittadina possa ampliarsi in futuro. The text is from Walt Whitman’s collection “Leaves of Grass.” This is perfect for Vaughan Williams, encompassing everything from descrip– tions of ships at sea, daring explorers and innovators, introspection on the meaning of progress, the Second Coming, and a transcendent final voyage to the afterlife. Bertrand Russell introduced Vaughan Williams to the poet’s work while they were both undergraduates at Cambridge. The piece is a true choral symphony, where the choir leads the themes and drives the action, rather than merely intoning the words and pro– viding a bit of vocal color; it is more like an oratorio than a symphony. It is Vaughan Williams’ first symphonic work, and such was his lack of confidence in the area that he returned to study under Ravel in Paris for three months before he felt able to complete it. It was premiered in 1910 at the Leeds Festival. There are four movements: “A Song for all Seas, all Ships,” “On the Beach at night, Alone,” “The Waves,” and “The Explorers.” The first is an introduction, dealing with the sea, sailing ships and steamers, sailors and flags.

WOLFGANG AMADEUS MOZART (1756-1791) Written in 1786, The Marriage ofFigaro is one of Mozart's greatest operas in the Italian style. It embodies Beaumarchais' bitter indictment of the tyranny, greed, and immorality of the nobility. After the sensational success of Beaumarchais' play in Paris in 1784, Mozart suggested to his librettist, Lorenzo da Ponte, the idea of making it into an opera. Already in the autumn of 1785, Mozart was at work on his music, composing with feverish haste, even as Da Ponte hurried to complete the libretto.     DECCA DISCOGRAPHY >>4 GREAT BRITAIN: digital, 1979-2008 In the early 1970s the advent of Anthony Rooley, the Consort of Musicke, Emma Kirkby, Christopher Hogwood and the Academy of Ancient Music brought a fresh look at repertoire from Dowland to Purcell, Handel, Mozart and eventually Beethoven. Solti recorded with the LPO from 1972 and the National Philharmonic was booked regularly from 1974-84. Also during the 1970s the London Sinfonietta’s surveys of Schönberg and Janá ček were recorded. Ashkenazy’s second career as a conductor centred initially on London, with the Philharmonia from 1977 and the RPO from 1987. Philip Pickett’s New London Consort joined the Florilegium roster in 1985 and Argo’s new look brought in a variety of ensembles in the 1990s. But after an LPO Vaughan Williams cycle was aborted in 1997, Decca’s own UK recordings comprised little more than piano music and recital discs. Outside London, Argo recorded regularly in Cambridge and Oxford. Decca engaged the Welsh National Opera from 1980-96 and the Bournemouth Symphony from 1990-96, but otherwise made little use of regional British orchestras. By the time they raised their performing standards to an acceptable level, Chandos, Hyperion and Naxos had largely replaced the old majors in the market for orchestral sessions. >RV0 VENUES One hundred and seventy different venues were used, eighty-eight in the London area and eighty-two elsewhere in Britain, but only one in ten (those in bold ) hosted thirty or more entries, whilst seventy were only visited once.
