NIL • Organized a Workshop on ‘Judging and Judicial Training: Best Practices’ on 9th July 2016 with Hon’ble Judge Kristi Harrington, Judge, Ninth Judicial Circuit, Circuit Court of South Carolina, USA, as the resource person for 45 judges of Court. Keynote Speaker, Hon’ble Judge Shri Sumant M. Kolhe, Principal District Judge, Pune and the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Justice Mr. H L Gokhale, Formerly Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Judge Kristi Harrington, Dr. Rajani Gupte, Vice Chancellor, SIU, Dr. Shashikala Gurpur, Fulbright Scholar, Director, SLS, Pune, Dean, Faculty of Law, SIU graced the occasion.

• Community Legal Care Centre (CLCC), SLS Pune participated in the Lok Adalat for pre-post litigants organized by Pune District Legal Service Authority (PDLSA). Under the guidance of Dr Gurpur and Prof. Kulkarni, 12 students and Prof. Deshmukh visited Pune District court. Secretary of PDLSA explained the provisions of the Legal Service Authority Act 1987 and its relevance. He apprised the students of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005 and shared his experience about pre-post litigants. They acted as Para Legal volunteers on various panels which dealt with matters pertaining to BSNL issue, Motor accident and domestic violence issue. One prisoner was there in the Yerwada Central Jail for past one& half year for committing offence under Sec 379 IPC. He was released in the month of August. NIL On 10th February 2016, Yerawda Jail Authorities referred a case (Ravi Shankar Koli v/s State of ) to Symbiosis Legal Care Centre, registered in CR.369/2014 at Police Station u/s 457, 380, 34 of the Indian Penal Code. The case originally was filed in the court on 31/12/2014 bearing R.C.C. No 4841/2014. In pursuance of the case, SLCC filed Vakalatnama on 25/10/2016 on behalf of the accused. Yerawda Jail Authorities referred nine cases under section 379 & 380 to Symbiosis Legal Care Centre. In pursuance of the case, SLCC filed Vakalatnama on 22/11/2016 on behalf of the accused. 1. Ajay Shailesh singh the undertrial Prisoner was released on bail from the jail. 2. Mayuri Mazire (the accused) pleaded guilty before the court,set off was been given and she was released from the jail. 3. Ajay Bhalerao the accused was released on bail from the jail. 4. Prabhakar kalbhor the accused was released on bail from the jail. 5. Prabhakar Kalbhor cross examination in progress. 6. Aaditya Bhede the accused was released on bail from the jail. Consultancy under Symbiosis prison legal aid programme handled the case of Alankar Kamble & Gorak Singh Tak. The prisoners were enlarged on bail by the court. o Central Prison – legal Aid Programme – Legal Consultancy – 13 cases (3 closed – 10 ongoing as on 26/02/2017) Visited SLS, Pune Permanent Legal Aid at Yervada Jial and offered consultation to the Undertrial Prisoner on 4th, 11th & 25th Mar 2017. 6 students of SLS Pune won the Transform Maharashtra Competition in the Theme No. 10: Balancing the scales: Expediting Justice through Technology by popular votes. This was done keeping in mind that the students go for their most important internships after their third year and these internships may mature into a job offer. SLSP was instrumental in furthering the research endeavor of a PhD Mr.Dawid Stanzak from Ulster University UK who was working on the Corporate Criminal liability with reference to genetically modified crops he has now co authored a paper with Dr. Shashikala Gurpur on topic of ?The Dialectic of Bio Diversity and Development? Hon. Justice Mohan Pieris ? SLSP has had the privilege of hosting Hon. Justice Mohan Pieris, Former Chief Justice and Attorney General of Sri Lanka, who is an eminent jurist, GIAN Scholar, MHRD India and distinguished Visiting Professor, twice in this academic year. His work plan has included delivering lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students on various legal topics. During his first visit of the academic year in August 2016, Justice Pieris conducted a full day Capsule Course on ?International Commercial Arbitration.?. Justice Pieris also conducted a Faculty Development Program as well as contributed to the Curriculum Review. On the recommendation of Dr. Gurpur, he participated in the IALS Conference where in he delivered lectures to the Judges Council of

Energy Conservation 1. We have started using LED lamps in place of filament lamps to conserve energy. 2. Every employee in SLS, Pune ensures that the lights and fans in every empty class room or other rooms are switched off after completion of the work. 3. Air-conditioners, projectors and other electric equipments that are used in the rooms are energy efficient. 4. Classrooms have sufficient cross ventilation and light to minimize the use of electricity. This shows the institutions commitment towards energy conservation. 5. SLS, Pune has set up LAWECON Cell for creating awareness on environmental issues. Use of Renewable Energy 1. SLS, Pune understands the importance of using renewable sources of energy and is committed towards it. 2. SLS, Pune is planning to set up bio gas plant and install solar heating panel for the upcoming hostels. Water Harvesting SLS, Pune has undertaken multiple projects towards water conservation and harvesting. 1. SLS, Pune has set up a sewage water treatment plant which has capacity of recycling 210 kilo liters/day. We have current daily usage of 40 kilo litres/day which is currently used for domestic purposes. 2. SLS, Pune has also set up three bore wells for rain water harvesting. 3. Apart from this the students have participated in AmrutVarshaMahotsav and have helped the farmers for rice plantation. The main mission of this expedition is to help farmers in need of manpower and reach out to the farmers by helping them increase their output. The students help the farmers in the process of ploughing, sowing the seeds, watering the plants and cutting the crops in harvest season along with the farmers. Their tag-line is "Eak Divas Shetisathi, Shetkaraynchyamadatisathi" which means ?to help the farmers, one day at the fields?. Plantation 1. SLS, Pune has adhered to the standards of Municipal Corporation in leaving the space for plantation around the building. 2. We have planted 190 trees on the campus which are being supported by drip irrigation. 3. We have deployed 150 potted plants inside the building. Hazardous waste management 1. Biomedical Waste (Management And Handling) Rules 1998 as prescribed by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India is followed by Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) for the disposal of biomedical waste. 2. SCHC has at all its campuses tied up with agencies for collection, treatment & disposal of biomedical waste. E-waste management 3. SLS Pune is pro active in adopting the proper and systematic methods for disposal of e-waste i.e. non-working computers, monitors and printers are discarded and scrapped on a systematic basis through authorized vendors. If some parts are useful, in other systems they are kept aside for future use. 4. Toners are refilled instead of replacing with new ones directly. ECOCON Faculty members and the students of ECOCON Cell of SLS Pune have participated in the Plastic Free Waste Campaign organized by the Pune Municipal Corporation on 13th February 2016. The campaign, for Symbiosis International University students at the Vimananagar campus was spearheaded by the Symbiosis Centre for Waste Management & Sustainability (SCWMS).

SLS Pune has organized a Lecture on Role of Religions for the protection of environment by Dr. Tara Prasad Sapkota, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu Nepal. On 29th November the members of the ECOCON Cell, Symbiosis Law School participated in The Walk which aimed to educate on the importance, course and the historic roots of the river and the life that existed around it. Others SLS, Pune has undertaken several steps to ensure that the campus is kept clean and to create awareness about environmental issues among students. 1. To keep campus always litter free, boards are placed in the campus .Wheeled dust bins are used for keeping the environment clean. We have contracted with authorized vendors to collect, transport and dispose of garbage generated in the campus 2. SLS, Pune is using shredder in place of incinerators to destroy excess paper and reduce carbon footprint. 3. SLS, Pune is a member of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). IUCN is world?s first global environmental organization which helps in finding pragmatic solution to world?s most pressing environment and development challenges. 4.
