GROVE — The Lady Red ground out a victory Friday night against Glenpool 40-29. It wasn’t a pretty win, but being able to win the rough games is a very important skill for championship teams. The Lady Red are currently ranked ninth in 4A and are now 6-1 this season. The Lady Red jumped out to a quick lead going up 8-2 with two baskets each for senior Rory Geer and junior Kolby Boyett. Glenpool made it very appar- ent that they were going to make someone other than Geer beat them. The Lady Warriors dropped into The Grove Junior High wrestling team placed first at the Wagoner Junior High Tournament with 212 points. The team had four first- a box-and-one playing full court place finishers. Those participating and their placement included: Jaxon Turner, 126 pounds, first place; Tye Merrill, 140, third place; denial against Geer. This means Derrick Thomas, 155, 12th place; Josh Gesell, 155, first place; Ian Richard, 170, second place; Ty Schlessman, 195, sixth place; Laird they took one of their defenders and Thompson, 195, first place; Johnny Fink, 285, fourth place; and Dakota Douglas, 285, first place. denied Geer the ball everywhere on the floor in theory leaving the game 4-on-4. Teams play a box-and-one so that the best scorer on the floor can’t beat them. Geer was averaging 20.2 points Runners go per game going into this one. She scored just 9 points but the opened up floor allowed Boyett to score 17. By pulling an extra defender away 1-2 in district from the paint, there was a lot of space for the post to work. Boyett was averaging 12.0 points per game. She has now scored double-digits in wrestling quad every game she’s played this year.
