Student demand for our courses remained strong and CAS departments worked hard to strengthen curricular offerings. For example, the Departments of Art and Music were accredited by their national professional organizations. The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures revamped its curriculum and changed its name to World Languages and Cultures to reflect trends in the discipline. Several departments launched creative projects to engage students in the learning process. As you will find in this annual report, departments have hosted career fairs, alumni events, student awards ceremonies, café societies, brown bag seminars, speaker series and established scholarships for their students. College students conducted community research and service learning projects in their neighborhoods, tackled internships at Chicago museums, zoos, government agencies and non-profits, and participated in professional meetings and simulation activities such as the Model UN. Many of our students presented their research and creative projects at various conferences including the Annual Student Research and Creative Activities Symposium, SACNAS, and local, regional, national and international conferences. These and other applied learning activities provide superb opportunities for professional development, giving our students an edge for career preparation and moving on to graduate school. The College welcomed nine tenure-track faculty members to campus. Wilfredo Alvarez (CMT), Jacqueline Anderson (Social Work), Sara Cordell (Math), Genet Duke (Earth Science), Mateo Farzaneh (History), Emily Garcia (English), Jin Kim (Social Work), Christopher Merchant (Psychology) and Vida Sacic (Art) will add to the intellectual vitality of the College. Our faculty members continued to excel in various ways. In the past year, seven faculty members were awarded tenure, eight were promoted to the rank of associate professor, and four to full professor. Laura Saunders, Professor, Earth Science, was named a United States of Agriculture E. (Kika) de la Garza Science Fellow for 2010. The 2 fellowship gives faculty and staff from Hispanic Serving Institutions the opportunity to collaborate with the USDA on scientific research and initiatives to address the challenges faced in the development of well prepared Hispanic workforce. Marcelo Sztainberg, Associate Professor, Computer Science was named the 2010-2011 NEIU presidential intern. Dr. Sztainberg is the third CAS faculty to serve in this capacity. The Audrey Reynolds Distinguished Teaching Award had three CAS Nominees: Shelley Bannister, Justice Studies & Women‘s Studies, Ellen Cannon, Political Science & Women‘s Studies and Denise Coonan-Cortez, Foreign Languages & Literatures. The recipient of the award was Dr. Denise Coonan-Cortez. The Bernard J. Brommel Distinguished Research Professor Award was awarded to Zhonggang Zeng for his highly acclaimed research in computational mathematics. As a community we continue to improve and serve our students, embracing our wonderful diversity, in the spirit of our values of integrity, excellence, access to opportunity, and empowerment through learning. This exhibition explores three artists’ use of natural material and found objects in their practice. Each artist approaches materials differently creating a captivating discussion on materiality, texture, and shape. Jiménez rebuilds and recontextualizes found trinkets and objects. Okore weaves fibers and found material to create ethereal sculptures. Welch adds a contemporary perspective to traditional mosaic techniques with motifs and imagery found throughout history. Joining together molded forms in unlikely combinations, Jiménez transforms kitsch elements into complex pieces with a rich and relevant focus. The juxtaposition of shapes in his sculptures may at first seem haphazard, but is intentionally crafted to mimic the illusiveness of memory as it advances and recedes over time. Jiménez holds an M.F.A. in Sculptural Ceramics from San Francisco State University, and his BA degree from Santa Clara University. He has exhibited extensively in the San Francisco Bay Area and nationally at universities, private galleries and civic spaces.

The exhibition runs from 7 January to 8 February, 2020. Osi Audu’s practice focuses on abstract art that retains some figurative elements in his geometric acrylic paintings in two colours and monochromatic grey and black drawings. Following the Yoruba concept of Ori Inu („the inner head“), his works - most of them displaying portraits of the self - draw attention to the artist‘s focus on the head as a signifier of consciousness and as an object of self-knowing. Audu received his BFA from the University of Ife (Nigeria) in 1980 and his MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Georgia in Athens (USA) in 1984. Kevin Demery‘s works explore the interplay between North American history and signifiers of power, developing a painterly language that invites us to move between the potent aesthetic of his work and recurring motifs of historical violence, surveillance and childhood trauma.

Fernandez is the author of Policing Dissent: Social Control and the Anti- Globalization Movement (Rutgers University Press, 2008).     Illinois Senate Freshman Senators About The 102nd Illinois General Assembly will include at least 27 freshmen members. By comparison, the 101st General Assembly had at least 47 freshmen at the start of it, with several more who joined the body in 2019 and 2020. The Senate’s political makeup for the 102nd General Assembly includes 41 Democrats and 18 Republicans. In the Senate, the freshman class includes five Democrats, two of which were recently appointed, and three Republicans. Two more senators are set to join the freshman class after replacements are picked to fill the seats held by Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) and Sen. Andy Manar (D-Bunker Hill), who recently announced their resignations. The Daily Line’s freshman guide offers a concise overview of this year’s class of newcomers. The full faith and credit of the County is pledged to the punctual payment of principal of and interest on the Taxable Series 2004C Bonds. Direct annual taxes have been levied on all taxable real property in the County in amounts sufficient to pay principal of and interest on the Taxable Series 2004C Bonds as those amounts come due, except for certain interest that will be capitalized as described herein. These taxes are to be extended for collection without limitation as to rate or amount.
