CTF Librarian: Job Description

The Theological Federation is an ecumenical partnership, with over 300 students studying a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate awards. Founded in 1972 and originally a partnership of three colleges (Ridley Hall, and Westcott House), with a focus on preparing students for ordained ministry, the Federation has expanded to include nine institutions:

The Federation works with the , Anglia Ruskin University and Durham University to deliver a range of degrees and courses in theology at all HE levels. The Cambridge Theological Federation is a group of seven member institutions and two associate members, who collectively have students enrolled on courses validated by the University of Cambridge, Anglia Ruskin University, and Durham University. Each member has its own library, ranging from 1000 to 25,000 volumes and collectively totaling approximately 110,000 volumes across nine sites (with one house library currently in storage).

The librarian of the Cambridge Theological Federation is responsible for the day-to-day organization and running of the libraries of member institutions and coordinates the relationship of all libraries to the University Library system. The librarian relates to the academic librarians in the member institutions to coordinate an overall library budget and develop and manage both printed and electronic resources.

Key roles:

• oversee the smooth operation of the Federation’s library services • serve as the point of contact for all Federation libraries with the University Library in the transition to a new library management system • have responsibility for copyright and CLA submission and uploading material to the Federation’s VLE and other appropriate platforms • manage existing library collections through stock selection and ordering in conjunction with academic librarians • manage the budget for purchasing library books and subscriptions • catalogue and classify both new and existing library stock; perform annual stock check • have responsibility for the smooth running of the library circulation system and administer overdue and fines process • be the first point of contact for external inquiries, including relating to possible donations • line manage one part-time library staff member and various part-time student helpers in term time • liaise with librarians and academic librarians in the Federation’s member institutions • work collaboratively with the Federation’s IT Officer in ensuring smooth transition to the Federation’s new Moodle VLE site • represent CTF locally and nationally through membership of the Cambridge College Library Forum and ABTAPL • other tasks as assigned

Person specification:

The successful applicant will be a qualified librarian and will bring understanding and experience of operating an academic library in a changing landscape.

Conditions:

The post is a fixed term contract for one year. The salary is in the range of £28,000-32,000 per annum. The successful applicant will work across the Federation member houses.
