Every Wednesday and Sunday: 6:30pm The “Backwater Gamblers Water Ski Show” will be performed on the Rock River in Rock Island for free. The Back-Water Gamblers are a non-profit water ski show team that performs beginning Memorial Day weekend through the summer until Labor Day weekend on Wednesday and Sunday evenings for free. The shows last approximately one hour with a 15-20 minute intermission in which donations are accepted. The team consists of approximately 150 members ranging in age from 1-67. Skiing members perform acts such as jumping, barefooting, pyramids, swivel, strap doubles, and others. The address of where they perform is 5000-44th Street (44th street and the Rock river) in Rock Island . Directions To The Show From I-74:

August 1, 2: 2015 Memorial Jazz Festival (August 1st: 6pm-11pm Free Concerts in Leclaire Park on River Drive in Davenport.)

August 4: Free admission to the Mississippi Valley Fair for those people with special needs and their staff until 2:00pm.

August 4, 8, 9, 11, 15, 16, 18, 22, 23, 25, 29, 30: Freight House Famers Market, 421 West River Drive, Davenport, . Over 100 growers, bakers, crafters, and artisans will have their items for sale. This is the largest Farmers Market in the . During the Spring, Summer, and Fall the Freight House Farmers Market is held outdoors and indoors. During November through April the Farmers Market in the Freight House is held indoors. You will find farm fresh fruits, vegetables, delicious baked goods, poultry, beef, lamb, pork, cheese, wine, eggs, honey, jams, jellies, dips and salsas, candy, fresh cut and dried flowers, seeds, bedding plants, annuals, and perennials, house plants, amazing art pieces, homemade soaps, doggie treats, beautiful heritage quality crafts, and you could even enjoy a massage from a licensed massage therapist.

August 5, 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26, 29: 8:00am-12:00pm Stop by the Mississippi Valley Growers Association Farmers Market on Wednesdays & Saturdays from May to October for great locally grown products! Wednesdays & Saturdays 8:00 AM-12:00 PM at North Park Mall, 320 West Kimberly Road, Davenport.

August 6: $5.00 admission to the Mississippi Valley Fair until 5:00pm for Senior Citizens.

August 6, 13: Moline Centre Summer Concert Series at the Bass Street Landing, 1601 River Drive, Moline, Illinois. Grab a lawn chair or blanket and go to the free outdoor concert.

August 7, 14, 21, 28: Enjoy a free after-work outdoor concert on the Plaza, 129 Main Street, Davenport.

August 9: 1:00pm-5:00pm “Egg Money and the Farmers Wife” event at Pioneer Village at Scott County Park in Long Grove, Iowa. This event highlights the contributions of the farmer’s wife and family to the financial stability of the farm pre-1960 in the Midwest. Through the depression years and beyond, many farms were saved from the auctioneer’s gavel because of the farmer’s wife side business selling eggs and other produce. The village will have demonstrations of weaving, spinning, and quilting. Chickens and information about raising chickens then and now will be shown. Admission is free.

August 12: 5:00pm-8:00pm Come boogie down with your friends at the Bettendorf Community Center for a nice evening of dinner and dancing. The cost is $5.00 for everyone and this includes staff. The fee includes dinner.

August 13, 14, 15: Tug Fest in Le CLaire, Iowa. The tug-of-war takes place on August 15th from 12:30pm- 3:00pm. The grand parade is on Friday, August 14th at 6:00pm. The 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday August 15th. Gate admission is $5.00 per person on Friday and Saturday. Thursday night is free admission night. Carnival is open everyday. Fireworks are on August 14th at 9:30pm over the Mississippi.

August 14, 15: Ya Maka My Weekend turns 24 years old this year with the region’s best Caribbean music, food culture, and island atmosphere. Rasta wear, palm trees, and surfboard return to transform downtown Rock Island into a tropical oasis. Admission is $9.00 for one day and $14.00 for a two day pass. August 15: 8:00pm-11:30pm Night Sky Observing at , 13010 Niabi Zoo Road, Coal Valley. Join the popular astronomy club after sunset at the Niabi Zoo parking lot for a tour of the summer night sky. Saturn, Neptune, Ceres (a dwarf planet), the ET Cluster, the Ring Nebula, the Dumbbell Nebula, and the coat hanger Cluster should be visible. August 16: 2:00pm-3:00pmDavenport Memorial Park Cemetery, The Runge Mortuary and Hodgson Funeral Home, local Dignity Memorial Providers, invites the public to our ceremonial observance of Spirit of 45 Day Wreath Laying Ceremony at the All Veterans Memorial in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. This event will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2015 at 2:00pm. This ceremonial observance is to honor the men and women from the World War II Generation and to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II. During this event we will pay tribute and say “Thank you” for the sacrifices made for our country and the world. Please join us to help celebrate this important anniversary! This Wreath Laying Ceremony will include the Honor Guard, a speaker and playing of Taps to honor the men and women from the “Greatest Generation”!

August 19: 4:00pm-7:00pm Come Visit Us at WATER FEST 2015 for FREE Family Fun!

Take a plant tour to learn how we transform the into safe, high quality drinking water that flows from your tap. There will be plenty of children's games and prizes along with educational displays. Free food will be available as well. And while you are here....meet our mascot Puddles.

The event will be held at our Treatment Plant at 1719 E. River Drive from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015.

Parking is available at the following public lots: Oneida Avenue and River Drive; Mound Street and River Drive; and Lindsay Park Boat Club (west lot).

Please walk along the bike path and enter the plant grounds through the gate at the center of the property.

August 22: 10:00am-3:00pm “State Street Market @ City Square” 2117 State Street, Bettendorf, Iowa. Stop by the State Street Market @ City Square in Bettendorf to brouse various vendors with a variety of goods to sell. Non profit groups, area merchant sidewalk sales, bounce houses, entertaining buskers, and more.

The event coincides with K&K Hardware's 75th Anniversary Celebration which will include carnival games for kids, giveaways, food vendors, BOGO paint sales, and live music. Stop by and shop both events!

August 23: 2:00pm “Colonel’s Croquet Party” at the Arsenal Island Golf Clubhouse, 1838 Gillespie Street, Rock Island, Illinois. Step back in time for the fourth annual Colonel’s Croquet Party on Sunday, August 23 on Arsenal Island at 2:00 p.m. Dress in your croquet whites (not required) to play the same game of croquet you play in your backyard. Croquet courts will be set up on the lawn of the historic Quarters One, next to the Arsenal Golf Club.

Teams of two can play in the fun round-robin tournament. Or there will be courts set up to just join in the fun and play croquet with other enthusiasts in the Quad Cities. We are going to have shorter courts for faster play this year! The championship court will still be full-size. NEW THIS YEAR: Join characters from Alice in Wonderland from the Davenport Junior Theatre to play and get your picture taken.

Croquet equipment will be provided. There will be hors d’oeuvres and drinks served al fresco at Quarters One. No-host bar available. Creekside Vineyards Winery in Coal Valley, Ill., will provide a complimentary wine tasting. Attendees also receive a pass for a complimentary guided tour of the Colonel Davenport House.

Tickets are $25.00 for adults; and $10.00 for children 11 years and younger to attend the Colonel’s Croquet Party. Hors d’oeuvres, croquet play, wine tasting, and tours of the house are included. The Colonel’s Croquet Party is a fundraiser for the Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation (CDHF). The non-profit, all-volunteer CDHF is working on new exhibits for the east wing of the historic house.

A current U.S. picture ID for persons 16 years or older is needed in order to be permitted on Arsenal Island because it is a working military facility. You can access Arsenal Island using the Rock Island or Moline, Illinois, gates.

August 23: Orphan Train Presentation with Elaine Mercado. Go and learn about the Orphan trains that brought their occupants to places for a new start and a better life. This activity will take place at the German Heritage Center, 712 West 2nd Street, Davenport, Iowa. Call 563-322-8844 for more information.

August 28: 6:00pm-9:00pm Friday Night Jam at the Roosevelt Community Center, 1220 Minnie Avenue, Davenport, Iowa. On the 4th Friday of each month you can enjoy board games, Open Gym, a movie, Wii games, pizza and lemonade for only $4.00. All ages are invited to participate. You must arrive by 6:30pm if you want to order pizza for supper.

August 28, 29: “River Roots Live Music Festival” at LeClaire Park in Davenport on River Drive. The Quad Cities' premier annual outdoor live music festival that features top national, regional and local acts with a great selection of top-notch Barbecue from award-winning national and local rib vendors. An event that pays tribute to the Mississippi River, River Roots Live is a collaborative effort that benefits the downtown Davenport beautification program, River Music Experience educational programming, and Living Lands & Waters clean-up efforts. The festival takes place in LeClaire Park in downtown Davenport - right on the banks of the mighty Mississippi River.
