Test Automation Boot Camp Student Setup Instructions

Thank you for registering for the Test Automation Boot Camp. We are looking forward to a very informative and productive class.

Much of the class time will be spent working hands-on exercises using various test automation tools. Some of these are web tools, but a few require that you install software on your own machine.

Please follow these instructions to install these applications:

• Firebug • Selenium IDE • Ranorex Test Automation Suite Firefox The Firefox web browser is required to run the Selenium IDE (interactive development environment)— one of two tools we’ll use for recording and playing back automated web tests. If you don’t already have Firefox, please download it from

Install Firebug within Firefox:

1. Open Firefox. 2. Browse to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firebug/ 3. Click “Add to Firefox”

4. When prompted, click Install

2 Test Automation Boot Camp 5. Verify that Firebug is installed by browsing to a site and right-clicking to see the menu item “Inspect Element with Firebug”

6. Close Firebug by clicking the on-off button ( )in the upper right corner of the Firebug panel:

Student Setup Instructions – February 2017 3 Selenium IDE The Selenium IDE is one of two test automation recording tools we’ll use. Like Firebug, it’s also a Firefox add-in.

1. Open Firefox. 2. Browse to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/selenium-ide/ 3. Click “Add to Firefox”

4. When prompted, click Install

5. Close and restart Firefox. 6. Press Ctrl+Alt+S to open the Selenium recorder.

4 Test Automation Boot Camp Ranorex Test Automation Suite Ranorex is a commercial test automation tool that supports not only web, but Windows Forms and mobile applications.

1. Download the latest version of Ranorex from the Ranorex Download Archive: http://www.ranorex.com/download/download-archive.html It’s easiest to download the “exe” installer:

(Note: Ranorex is now on version 6.2) 2. Save the installer to your desktop or Downloads folder:

3. Run the downloaded installer.

5. Install to the default location (just click Next here)

6. Leave all of the options selected, including the browser plugins.

8. It should take one to three minutes to install Ranorex.

License Ranorex If you are not using a purchased or extended trial license we recommend you use a training license for the course. This will eliminate the “nag” popups.

For classes held in February 2017, your license key is

1. On the Ranorex studio main menu select Help  Licensing.

8 Test Automation Boot Camp 2. Select “Node Locked” and paste the license key into the box labeled “Paste license key here.” Click “Install” then click “OK.”
