The most common question we are asked by coaches is “Do you have any drills you can send?” or “What are the latest drills used in the AFL?” While there are many sources of drills and practice activities, in this third edition of Drills & Skills in Australian Football, David Wheadon has presented a comprehensive selection of drills and practices related to the key aspects of the modern game. The Coach – Season with Ron Barassi (Youth or Senior) The ultimate inside story about football. In 1977, writer John Powers was a fly on the wall at the North Football club when revered coach Ron Barassi was in control. The book that emerged from that season, The Coach, recorded the months of often brutal training leading up to the spine-tingling Grand Final draw between North Melbourne and Collingwood, and on to North Melbourne’s ultimate victory. Nominated as “the bible of motivation” by The Age newspaper, this account of the team’s massive commitment and Barassi’s extraordinary motivation techniques is a relevant and fascinating in 2009 as it was in 1978. Managing Yourself & Others – Dr Phil Jauncey Dr Phil Jauncey is a keynote speaker and corporate educator in Management, Motivation, Communication, Marketing, Education and Sports Psychology. He is a consulting Psychologist to many elite teams. Wayne Bennett (former Broncos Coach) is quote as saying “Phil has a unique knack of understanding what is needed to get people to succeed”. AFL Junior Coaching Manual The Junior Coaching Manual provides the framework for managing and coaching junior football. The manual covers a range of issues for coordinators and coaches including the long-standing AFL philosophy, the role of the coach, planning a session, safety issues and teaching techniques to help coaches when assisting children to develop their skills at an appropriate rate. AFL Youth Coaching Manual The Youth Coaching Manual provides a specific framework for coaching youth footballers.
