Letters From Leaders Life doesn’t just go up, up and up. We all have to confront and deal with adversity at different times in our life. Determination to get through it is very important as is belief that you will get through it. I faced my toughest challenge in my life when both my parents passed away, within a year of each other, when I was 18. I had to leave my home in Brooklyn during my sophomore year at N.Y.U and go to live with my sister, her husband and their one-year-old daughter in Bayside, Queens. Because of them and an active support group of friends at N.Y.U – where I became President of the college’s Student Council – I didn’t face my loneliness and feelings of being an “orphan” until I was living alone at Harvard Law School a few years later. Given I had a lifetime aggregate sum of $4,000 to my name, I was dependent on a full tuition scholarship which I would lose if I didn’t maintain at least a “B” average. With no one from my support group present to help me get through this period of deep anxiety, I turned to the law school’s psychiatrist for a year to help get me through this dark transitional period. During this time, I learned a critical life lesson: it is certainly no sign of weakness to get professional help when needed. My next major life turning point occurred in the year 1960. I was an associate at the law fi rm of Rosenman, Colin, Petschek and Freund servicing clients such as CBS, CBS founder William Paley and other major corporations.

The scene inside hardly Limited Edition T-Shirts resembles your usual HipHop session. There are plenty of young men milling The Wire 300 around but there's no blunt smoke, and everyone's dressed in clothes their The Wire 25 mothers would approve of. No one has cursed and I've been in the room almost ten minutes. We might be in New York, but Timbaland's "Dirty South", as he calls it, is the spiritual galaxy we presently occupy. For the duration of his sessions, Manhattan Center is transformed into an outpost of straight-up Southern black culture manned by folks who grew up doing equal time in church pews and jeeps pumping Tupac. After all, Virginia, Timbaland's home state, is right on top of DC go-go and just a car ride away from both New York's grimy HipHop and Miami's aluminium, hydraulic Bass Music. Ross Futurehit.DNA How The Digital Revolution Is Changing Top 10 Songs by Jay Frank Published by Futurehit, Inc. ©2009 Jay Frank, currently SVP of Music Strategy for CMT has sat in a number of musical gatekeeper chairs and always been somewhat outspoken, especially about the interaction between music and technology. So industry observers should not feign shock to see him don the scribe cap and set about inking his thoughts. Jay Frank Considering the author's digital expertise, it is not surprising that the book has its own website with complete details about where to purchase, social networking accounts and even a free first chapter. http://www.futurehitdna.com. The premise of Futurehit.dna is that by carefully monitoring consumer behavior and the technology surrounding the music, one can improve the odds that new music will be discovered and be successful. "Musicians are generally looking for a balance between art and commerce," Frank writes, "and for that this book becomes an important guide." However, he wisely warns, "Implementing these points will do you no good unless the underlying talent and quality is already there." Those looking for a quick, easy read and a fast solution are likely to be disappointed. The author's zeal for thorough explanations creates an ambitious study rich in historical details. Designed and built in-house by our staff of engineers, this robotic “Drum Machine,” called the Gluing Gantry, ensures that every Evans head has a true collar. A series of vacuum fixtures holds the film in place for each head while the robotic gluing arm circles above the hoop and dispenses epoxy. The result is a drumhead that tunes both easily and consistently. At Evans, we do it right the first time. And every time. The journey from wooden dowel to finished drumstick is a tough one. Each stick makes its way through the hands of several craftsmen before it leaves us. And at every test, there’s always the chance of getting turned into firewood. But it does get easier when our sticks reach the store. Everybody is Talking About the Good Ole Days: RZA on the Soul of Music by Ericka Blount Danois If hip-hop tours, white appropriation, anniversary celebrations, books and hip-hop documentaries aren’t an indication that hip-hop has reached the status of Beatles-style nostalgia and reverence, then releasing a Wu-Tang Clan 20th anniversary reunion album, A BetterTomorrow, is solid proof that the genre has officially arrived. RZA, always the heart of the operation, worked tirelessly to round up the troops and dissolve beefs for the reunion album that dropped Dec. 2, 2014. “I wanted to make a record that pays homage to soul music and hip-hop,” he said about the making of this album. “I went to the past to make something for the future.” RZA came out of his own pockets to fund the album to the tune of half a million dollars. Some of the best in the industry are featured on the album—Rick Rubin, Adrian Younge, David Porter, Kenny Gamble and Rob Cavallo, all had their hands in the pot. Wu-Tang has always done things big and with vision. RZA led the 9-member group to an unprecedented label deal where each member was able to launch solo records. The deal allowed them to become the most revolutionary rap group of the mid-’90s releasing five group and 19 compilation albums totaling over 6 platinum records and over 40 million sold.
