PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Last year when writing my report I said, “…Hard work brings its own rewards and no more is this so than in cricket. I am confident that we can improve, that next year we shall do better…” Well we did! After a long drought of twenty-one years we have won the SSJCA Club Championship, the “Bertshell Trophy”.

On top of that a team effort in the Senior Division saw the A1 team win back to back premierships, in itself a great success. The 10A and 14D teams achieved premierships in thrilling hard fought final matches. The 10A overcame the minor premiers Illawong whilst the 14Ds overcame a shaky start to defeat a keen Bosco side. The 14A and 16A teams were also premiership contenders and tried hard but on the day were beaten by better teams. But surely this is what it is all about, - playing and committing and giving it your best effort.

Three premierships this year are the icing on the cake. With junior teams I have always maintained that the measure of success is how well every boy and girl enjoys the season and what they gain in quality of life through playing a healthy and challenging team sport. Everyone is a winner and everyone is successful if at the end of it all they can say, “ I enjoyed playing cricket and I will do better next year”.

The Club can bask in its moment of glory and do so honourably and deservedly. The success of our premiership teams and the success of the club overall did not happen by luck alone. Senior captains, coaches, managers, scorers all played a part that allowed us as a club to build a pathway to success. It was a team effort in which the players led the way but were backed by the effort of not only the fore mentioned but by parents and supporters. It was an effort guided by the commitment of a management team for whom I have the highest respect. Led by Ian Latham that team has worked hard to provide a strong financial and support base that has over a number of years led to better facilities, equipment, and coaching standards. Our juniors are the backbone of our club and nowhere is this more demonstrated than in the success of our senior A1 team. The team that took the field this year to contest the final consisted of twelve players all being former Dragons juniors.

I will leave it to others to report on our financial situation and other relevant matters. I am more than happy to think that the efforts of every player in our club have been rewarded this year. In our participation in the Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association competition we achieved the highest level of success through the efforts of all teams, not just those who won the title “Premier”. From our Under 10 introductory teams, of which we had two, up through the age groups irrespective of grade, every team and every player made us, the club, a winner. In winning the SSJCA Club Junior Championship Engadine Dragons Cricket Club our players have demonstrated the value of teamwork, fair play and club spirit.

Through these efforts we have set a standard that will demand a big effort next year in order to repeat it. We can do it! All it needs is for every one of us to remember the values of the game, - a commitment to sportsmanship, a commitment to fair play, a commitment to giving of our best at all times. With these ethics to guide us we will succeed.

Thank you to a very hard working and committed committee. Thank you to all the players, and those who volunteer their time to make things happen. Thank you to those who support the club in a variety of ways. It has been a very good year!

Russ Waddell.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

The 2000/2001 season, without doubt, was for me, the most enjoyable and satisfying seven months of cricket that I have experienced in my eight year association with the Dragons. For the first time since 1978/79 the Club won the “The Bertshell Trophy” as the S.S.J.C.A’s “Club Championship” and to top it of three premierships.

This season saw quite a large drop in junior registrations, which was more than likely caused by the disruptive lead up we had due to the staging of the Olympic Games. Our numbers fell from the previous season’s 141 to 128 players with the Club fielding eleven teams, one less than last year. For the first time since 1992/93 the Club did not field an under eight team. On the other hand, numbers were up in our senior teams with 86 registering compared to last season’s 82 players. We again fielded five teams.

Continuing on from the success of the previous two seasons we again figured prominently in the Final’s Series with four junior, and one senior team contesting the Final. Congratulations go to our Premiers, the A1, 14D (Minor Premiers) and 10A teams. Commiserations to our runners up, the 16A and 14A sides, although not winning the title, they can be well pleased with their performance throughout the season. On a special note it was very pleasing to see that the entire A1 team that played in the final were all Dragon’s juniors.

Yet again, the Club figured strongly at the representative level with twenty junior, and six senior players being selected to represent the Sutherland Shire in the NSW Districts Cricket Association Competition with a further three being selected in the Sutherland Shire District Grade Club’s Green Shield Team. I commend them for their fine achievements and you will find their names proudly listed under “Representative Honors”. Congratulations to Andrew Jones, Ben Latham and Daniel Ward who were all members of Sutherland’s victorious Foster Shield winning Team.

On the social front, we returned to the Eagle’s Soccer room for our fifth Annual Trivia Night. Although the venue was a lot smaller than upstairs we still managed to squeeze around one hundred people through the doors. Again we would like to thank Steve Bourke and Laurie Daly for putting on this tremendous, and entertaining evening.

As every body knows the Club only runs one fundraiser during the season, the Club Raffle. The funds raised from this Raffle go a long way to keeping our fees to a minimum, and I would like to thank all families for their support. As usual, we have Bob Price to thank for organizing this event and needless to say, Bill Knowles was our leading ticket seller, then again, who could refuse to buy a ticket from him? Not me!

On the financial side of things I would like all members to note the list of sponsors and advertisers on page two. Please support them as they have us, their generosity allows us to provide first class equipment and training facilities.

I would like to thank all the members of our hard working committee that keep backing up year after year, in particularly, Peter Ward and Allan Lofthouse who make my job that much easier. Thanks also to all our coaches, senior captains, managers and scorers that get the players on the field week in and week out. I would also like to make special mention of the contribution of Harry Robbins, not only has he provided invaluable coaching and guidance to player, and coach alike, he has also published the season’s match reports in the Engadine District News every fortnight as well as watering Anzac Oval throughout the hot summer months. Thanks Tiger!

Last, but certainly not least, thank you to all the parents, relatives and friends who gave great support and encouragement to players during the year. I hope all our players enjoyed their cricket and congratulations to all of our juniors on winning the “Club Championship”.

Ian Latham.

7 HONOURS AWARDED TO EDCC CLUB MEMEBRS

In the past twelve months we have had the unusual experience of having two of our “senior” club members given national and community honours for the work they have done in developing and encouraging junior cricket in Engadine over the past twenty to thirty years.

These awards are significant and the club is proud to be associated with the recognition afforded. We warmly congratulate them on the well deserved recognition.

Both are club Life members and both are heavily involved in the work of the club. They are President Russ Waddell, and Mr. Engadine Dragons, Harry Robbins.

The awards were: -

AUSTRALIAN SPORTS MEDALS

On 31 December 1998 the Prime Minister announced the creation of an Australian Sports Medal in the Australian system of honours and awards. The year 2000 saw the introduction of this newly established national honour. Its purpose was to provide recognition for outstanding achievement in sport. The criteria provided for a range of participants.

The Australian Cricket Board was allocated 1300 medals on an Australia wide basis. In turn, Cricket NSW asked all Cricket Associations to submit nominations within the parameters of the criteria. All SSJCA clubs were asked to provide details of prospective recipients and we nominated two members who satisfied the criteria.

Subsequently, early in this season now completed (Sunday 22 October 2000), an awards ceremony was conducted by Mr. John A. Chapman OAM ASM, Vice President Cricket NSW. Fifteen people nominated by the SSJCA were presented with Australian Sports Medals.

Included in this number were our two nominees who between them have given something like fifty years of community service in support of the game.

HUGHES AWARD

As part of the Australia day program of celebrations Dana Vale our Federal Local member conducted an awards ceremony at the Menai Club on Sunday 26 January 2001. 34 recipients were recognised for services to the community within the Hughes Electorate. Of those a number went to Engadine residents for their work as volunteers spanning a range of community interests and activities. This is the second time that one has been awarded to an EDCC Club member. The first was Harry Robbins in 1999. This year Club President Russ Waddell received a Hughes Award for his involvement in junior cricket stretching back to 1983 when he first joined the club.

MAYORAL VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION AWARD At a ceremony held at Hazlehurst Cottage, Gymea on 20 May 2000 to mark its opening the Mayor of Sutherland presided over the inaugural Mayoral Volunteer Recognition Awards ceremony. Amongst a diverse range of activities recognised three awards were given for outstanding services to cricket. One of these went to EDCC Club President Russ Waddell for his work not only with the Dragons but also his efforts in cricket administration as Association Secretary.

Although neither Russ nor Harry seek recognition or reward for the contribution they make to a sport they love, I think it only fitting that the members of our Club are made aware of their fine achievements.

Ian Latham.

Throughout this Yearbook you will see the pair of hands clapping, signifying applause for a job well done. These are our “TRIBUTE” symbols. We ask you to note these businesses and people for the invaluable contributions they have made to our Club.

8 OPEN LETTER TO THE CLUB

In early October last year Chris Moreland suffered an accidental head injury while practising in the nets. Like most sports cricket has an element of risk. That risk is recognised and steps taken to minimise the occurrence of injuries. Hence one reason for coach accreditation and supervision of practice sessions. The following Moreland family letter speaks for itself. It is appreciated for, in a world where much is taken for granted and much appears to be demanded, thanks is often overlooked or simply non existent.

This club is a community club and its strength lies in combining our efforts and working for the good of all to ensure that kids of all shapes, sizes and skills can play and enjoy cricket.

On behalf of all Club members I thank the Moreland family for their gracious and thoughtful action.

Russ Waddell.

Tuesday March 5, 2001.

Thank you!! to the Engadine Dragons Cricket Club. As the cricket season draws to a close I would like you to read this letter to all those present.

Chris, our son, had a very unfortunate accident at cricket training on Thursday the October 5, 2000. This resulted in major surgery at St. George hospital. After 10 days in hospital and 2 months recovering at home, Chris returned to school and then last Saturday week he had his very first game for the season.

Chris was so excited to be given the chance to play and the encouragement given to him by Stuart and Harry was great.

The main reason for my letter is to sincerely thank the E.D.C.C. for their concern and continued support during Chris’s operation and hospital stay.

We will always remember the kindness of Stuart Slack, Ian Latham, Harry Robins and Brett Johnson. Especially all their phone calls and visits to the hospital and the treasured gifts.

To everyone at the Club, words alone cannot convey our deep felt gratitude and thanks. We are very lucky to belong to such a great club.

Our congratulations on being Club Champions and good luck to everyone in the finals this Saturday.

With Appreciation and thanks,

Lorraine, David, Tim, Brad and Chris (Moreland).

CURRENT PERPETUAL TROPHIES AND AWARDS CRITERIA

Criteria – General: To provide a measure of objectivity and consistency throughout all levels of the Club for the determination of performance awards, the following criteria shall apply uniformly: Where a bowler is competing with a batsman and/or wicketkeeping for a Club honour, the following system shall apply: For each 10 runs scored: - 1 point For each taken: - 1 point For each catch/stumping made: - 1 point

9 Where two batsmen or two bowlers are vying for a honour/award the Management Committee will take into account the ratio of runs to innings, and/or to overs noting the strike and economy rates and in each instance make judgement based on its assessment of all circumstances. The above may also be used for determining “All-rounders” but with respect to the Senior division it is to be read in conjunction with the criteria specified.

Life Member: The Club Executive shall determine all nominations for LIFE MEMBER. While any club member may nominate any other club member to be a Life Member such nomination is to be in writing with reasons in support. The Club Executive is not bound to accept nominations or give reasons for rejection. In considering any such nomination it will be guided as follows. • The basic merits of each nomination. • The years and nature of service to the club rendered by the nominee. • Generally, but not exclusively, no less than ten years club service is seen as a minimum.

Club Member of the Year: (Perpetual trophy & personal trophy) Nominations are sought. Awarded to a club member who, gives freely of his/her time and energies in supporting the club in its activities. Management Committee members may be nominated in which event the Club Executive shall determine the recipient.

Senior Club Champion: (Perpetual trophy & personal trophy). Determined by the Management Committee. Derived from an examination of the Scorebooks relative to the cricket performances of every senior player during the season. There is no weighting for the grade played. In determining the merits of a batsman relative to a bowler (or wicketkeeper) for the purpose of assessing this award the general criteria set out above shall apply. While first and second innings shall count, finals will be excluded.

Club Champion (Junior and Intermediate divisions): (Perpetual trophy & personal trophy). Determined by the Management Committee. Derived from an examination of the Scorebooks. Awarded to the most outstanding cricketer in the junior or intermediate divisions, who through performance with bat or ball has proved him/herself competitive at the higher levels (A or B Grade) of the SSJCA Competition.

Junior and Intermediate Divisions Champions: (Perpetual trophy and personal trophy) Six (6) trophies awarded.

Batting Award: shall go to the player within the Division nominated who scores the most runs in the season. There is no weighting for grade. The most runs will be the aggregate of all runs credited to the batsman as shown in the official score book and shall be inclusive of first and second innings. Runs scored in finals shall be excluded.

Bowling Award: shall go to the player within the Division nominated who takes the greatest number of wickets in the season. There is no weighting for grade. The greatest number of wickets will be the aggregate of all wickets credited to the bowler as shown in the official score book and shall be inclusive of first and second innings. Wickets taken in finals shall be excluded.

Wicketkeeping Award: shall go to the player within the Division nominated who as the wicketkeeper is credited with the greatest number of dismissals in the season. There is no weighting for grade. The greatest number of dismissals will include all catches and stumpings credited to the keeper as shown in the official score book and shall be inclusive of first and second innings. Finals shall be excluded. In the event of more than one keeper having an identical tally, byes but not leg byes shall be taken into account and the award made to the keeper with the lowest number of byes.

TEAM AWARDS: (Personal Trophies)

Senior Division: To each team there shall be available awards for , bowling, and where earned All-rounder. To qualify as an All-rounder the recipient must have achieved in the year, no less than 200 runs and 25 wickets whilst playing in the SSCA Competition. A player who represents the club in more than one 10 team shall have all efforts credited. All awards shall be based on aggregates and be inclusive of first and second innings but exclusive of finals.

Introductory, Junior and Intermediate Divisions: For all teams engaged in competitive cricket. For each team there will be an Allrounder, Batting, and Bowling Award based on aggregates not averages and derived from the official Scorebooks. Aggregates include both innings but exclude finals. There shall also be a Coach’s award and a Fielding award nominated by the team management. No one person may win more than one of the foregoing awards.

SPECIAL TEAMS AWARD: (For Junior and Intermediate Divisions only)

Most Improved Team: (Perpetual trophy, and personal trophy awarded to players, coach & manager) Determined by the Management Committee. Awarded to the team that on results shows improvements in the second half of the season relative to the first half. While the points scored acts as an indicator, the grading and age group of the team will be taken into account.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:

Bob Price Encouragement Shield: (Perpetual trophy and personal trophy) Nominations are sought. Awarded to a player within the Junior and/or Intermediate Divisions. Determined by the Management Committee. The award recognises the need to encourage players. Any player may be nominated but the Management Committee will take into account age, performance, level at which played, years of experience. Commitment, effort, enthusiasm for the game are key determinants. Basically, and as simply as possible, the award is designed to encourage a young cricket to follow his love for the game through playing as long as possible. Generally, a more established player, playing at the higher levels would be seen to be in less need of encouragement than one coming through the levels.

Greg Heffernan Fielding Trophy: (Perpetual trophy and personal trophy) Nominations are sought. Determined by the Management Committee. Awarded specifically for fielding effort. The number of catches taken is a factor but for a wicketkeeper allowance is made for the advantages of gloves. Considerations include alertness, speed and accuracy of returns, determination, and encouragement of fellow players, in particular bowlers.

Rookie of the Year: (Perpetual trophy and personal trophy) Nominations are sought. Determined by the Management Committee. Awarded to a player who has completed their first ever year of competitive cricket and has displayed potential and enthusiasm for the game.

Outstanding Junior in Men’s Cricket: (Perpetual trophy and personal trophy) Nominations are sought. Determined by the Management Committee. Awarded to a player in the first full year ever of senior cricket that displays a high level of skill, ability, and potential.

Player’s Player Award: (Personal trophy only) Nominations are sought. For each team within the senior Division of the Club there shall be a Players’ Player award. The award shall be determined by the players voting for the person they consider to have done most for the team in the season completed. It is not necessarily a performance award though performance must count to some degree. It is primarily an award for the person who best represents the interests of the team, gives his/her utmost whether batting, bowling, fielding, or supporting the team in its on and off-field activities, and giving encouragement and boosting morale throughout the game. It is the “team man”. It is the responsibility of the Team to oversight the nomination and submit it to the Management Committee. Note: • The Management Committee reserves the right to withhold the allocation of any award where in its assessment the criteria have not been met or for any other valid reason. • Where the assessment of the award calls for nominations, all such nominations must be in writing, with reasons in support. Nominations must be forwarded to be in the hands of the 11 Secretary or Assistant Secretary by no later than two weeks after the date of the final last played or any other such date as the Committee may announce or publish. • In the absence of nominations the Management Committee shall consider the merits of each award and may determine a recipient on its knowledge of the available candidates. • The Management Committee may make any special award it sees fit to acknowledge special circumstances or to provide encouragement. • All considerations of the Management Committee and/or the Executive are confidential. Neither body shall be required to give reasons for the acceptance or rejection of any nomination.

E.D.C.C. SERVICE AWARDS: Introduced in 1996/97, the whole purpose of the Service Award is to acknowledge continuous club playing service and promote pride in the club. The awards are in periods of five years, ie: five, ten, fifteen, twenty and at twenty-five years Life Membership may be awarded.

Because of these alterations it was almost impossible for the old individual competition records to be broken, accordingly it was decided by the S.S.J.C.A. to move the “old records” to a separate section. PREMIERS

THE TEAM: - Daniel Ward (Capt), Andrew Jones (V/Capt), Jack Blayney, Brendan Cropp, Cameron Heard, Andrew Herne, Matthew Hoff, Ben Latham, Sam Newman, Mark Rice & Brent Woodley.

Engadine Dragon’s Cricket Club can feel very proud of the eleven boys who represented it in the past season, on, and off the field. Having three teams in one age group is always an advantage to produce a strong top side, this season proved no different. It was evident from the commencement of the season that we had picked a strong eleven and if all were willing to put-in at training we would only improve our skills. Improve our skills we did and by the eighth round were undefeated, winning seven and having a round washed out. The wash out game was against Illawong 1, the eventual minor premiers. Engadine loosing the last two rounds against Sports and Illawong1 left Gymea with a sniff for the final with us having to loose outright and them to win the same way, you guessed it, they did, but we didn’t! How big that one point is when it’s on our side of the ledger!

The final was a cracker, with the rain having a day off and Engadine winning the toss, we were able to register a score and put them to the test. Our 117 in a final with a slow outfield was defendable, as I always considered our bowling the strongest in the competition. Although we dropped important catches (as they did) our ground fielding was magnificent, the motivation and encouragement from all lads certainly fitted the occasion. The bowling was never better, with all bowlers keeping the ball up to the bat Illawong forgot how to score runs. With wickets in hand but overs at a minimum our opponents had no choice other than take chances, the pendulum swung no longer. Brendan and Jack had the unenvious task of bowling the last two overs. Result: six or seven runs but more importantly two run outs, a wicket and dot balls. After our fifty overs Illawong could only muster 112. The jubilation from boys and parents alike as well as the many spectators (more crowd than a Pura Cup game) I’m sure will long be remembered. A great win, a great season and a great team of boys!

All sides must have good support and support we had in an abundance. Steve Jones our manager/scorer/news letter writer and Ian Latham who assisted with training sessions every Thursday and assisted with any other obstacle that arose were great, thus making my work load all that easier. Peter Ward and Sally Heard (my caffeine supplier at drinks) rank a special mention. To all parents who supported me I hope you enjoyed the season. A thank you to my son Chris from the Grade club who put on an extra two training sessions prior to the final to help us “peak”, thanks once more mate.

THE BOYS: Thank you all for an eventful season, all boys are a credit to their parents and club alike. We set ourselves realistic goals at the very start of the season, namely improving our skills, enjoying our sport, strong commitment to our team and club (never more obvious than in the final) being foremost. I feel these were achieved. Each boy proved to be a match winner in at least one game, the hallmark of a good team. Winning the competition was a bonus and of course the icing on the cake. I was thrilled to be a part of such a harmonious side, you have given me memories that I will always cherish.

Dennis Pendergast.

29 BOYS WHO REMAIN IN THE U/10’S NEXT SEASON.

JACK BLAYNEY: A good thinker and a cool boy under pressure. When thrown the ball to bowl his first over in the final it was the teams 49th and second last over of the match. Is that pressure! Jack’s top score this season was 21. He also took 3 wickets and held 3 catches. One of his catches was the season’s best, it was actually past him as he turned and held an Aussie Rules high mark one handed. Jack is a real team player and will be a force next year. Well done Jacko.

SAM NEWMAN: A left arm wrist spinner with a whippy action and loads of talent and still only eight years of age! Sam came out with some absolute gems. When shown how to bowl a wrong’n at training he went into his first over of the next match, turned to me and loudly asked “can I bowl a wrong’n the next ball? Sure enough a wrong’n it was, the batsman missed it, the keeper missed it and yours truly laughing so much also missed (to single byes). I told Sam to be more tactful, I suggested to rub an ear, this he did so vigorously it looked like he had a nervous twitch. I think Sam at that time the secret was up! Sam took 8 wickets, 2 catches and scored handy runs when given the opportunity. Great year Sammy.

MARK RICE: Eight-year-old Mark impressed me from the start of the season to the finish. Unruffled to the goings on around him he has an excellent attitude to the game and gives the opposition nothing. Although small in stature at the batting crease he is totally composed with no silly habits, a boy who plays balls on their merits. Mark’s sensible approach to cricket will ensure him another excellent season in the same age group. Mark had a top score of 10 (two fours), took 2 catches and picked up 3 wickets. Good year Bubbles.

BOYS PROMOTED TO THE U/12’S NEXT SEASON

DANIEL WARD: Daniel our captain led from the front all season. Our opening bowler who took 13 wickets (most for team) scored 150 runs with a top score of 63 and held 2 catches. This being Daniel’s first year as skipper my long term objective was for him to contribute a major input at the business end of the season. This goal was achieved as his confidence grew and terminated with positive decisions in the final. Daniel also represented Sutherland in the victorious Foster Shield comp this year. A great double skipper.

BRENDAN CROPP: Our middle order batsman who at the half way part of the season had Bradman like stats with a series of not outs. Brendan totaled 132 runs with good scores of 52 and 31, his 52 coming at a time when most needed. Brendan had to bowl the last over in the final with the opposition launching a full frontal attack when time stood still for all spectators. What a pressure player! Brendan finished with 6 wickets (1-19 from 7 in the final) and took 1 catch. A real team character and strong team man. Thanks for providing me with a lot of amusing moments Croppy.

CAMERON HEARD: What a season to start a cricket career. Cameron was a real bolter. He is a natural left arm swing bowler with an easy run up and high delivery, Cameron was our find of the year. To play your first year in cricket in “A” grade certainly for most could be daunting, not so for this lad. Forming an opening bowling combination with Daniel, Engadine had the best opening attack in the competition. It was a matter of keeping his best for last as he put in a blinder in the final as man of the match. With figure of 3-17 off 8 overs and scoring 8 n/o with two fours, little wonder he kept the match ball. (Don’t tell our property man, Bill Knowles). Terrific debut Cam.

ANDREW HERNE: My constant talking companion at square leg, Andrew was second only to Daniel as a wicket taker collecting 10 wickets at a low average of 9. Normally our first change bowler Andy could always be relied upon to prop up and end to keep things steady. With 46 runs and a highest score of 18 and 2 catches he should be more than happy with his performances. Andrew was more than keen to patrol the deep square position for the majority of the year because of his strong arm. Good stuff Andy.

MATTHEW HOFF: Matthew commenced the season as an opening bowler but it was soon discovered he was more suited as an into the wind bowler. We had a little work to do originally with his run up but to Matthew’s credit he did the hard work, which reflects, in his figures, 8 wickets at a low average. With his low action he has the ability of skidding the ball through to the batsman. I think he even amused himself with the amount of swing he imparted on the ball. His figure of 0-10 off 8 overs in the final was exactly what we needed at that time. Didn’t score many runs but was a key figure in a team game. Good one Hoffy.

30 ANDREW JONES: Andrew made up the trio of Foster Shield rep players for Engadine. Andrew was Ben’s opening batting partner. With 162 runs and another 22 runs in the final he had a great year. Add 7 wickets for 69, 4 catches and approximately 5 run outs from short fine leg, our motivator in the field, running fine leg to fine leg and I could guarantee his parents knew where to find him on a Saturday night, not out dancing I’m sure. Andrew made two scores of 54, one of these not out. In our outright win he and Ben had an unfinished partnership of 119. How good is that. Fabulous season Jonesie.

BEN LATHAM: Ben had a terrific year. Our regular opening batsman, Ben formed a great combination with Andrew Jones. With a top score of 48 and other valuable knocks of twenties and thirties he totaled 189 for the season proper and another 18 in the final when he and Jonesie opened with a 40 odd partnership. In the field Ben was everywhere! The most reliable fieldsman in all positions he made backward point his own. How many runs did he save there in the final against Illawong’s top bat? Another Foster Shield rep player, Ben held 3 catches and picked up 5 wickets with limited opportunities with the ball. Good boy Benny.

BRENT WOODLEY: Last but by no means least, one-shot Woodley, no truer character has ever represented Engadine. The most fearsome hitter for his age of a cricket ball as I’ve witnessed. He thinks every ball he faces should go over a fence paling or even through it! As in one case it did. The “one shot” tag started when I jokingly suggested he had just that, only one shot over mid wicket. After totally creaming a ball over the bowlers head he stated “see I’ve more than one shot” my reply “same shot only played earlier” His two innings of 40 were gems as was his 20 in the final, Illawong 1 must still shudder at the thought of him. Our keeper for most of the year he was first class. Brent was never scared to stand up to the quicks as his figure show, 5 stumpings and 2 catches. Great year one shot.

10C TEAM REPORT

AWARD WINNERS - ALLROUNDER: Adam Smith BATSMAN: Bryce Alewood BOWLER: Jordan Duncan COACH’S: Andrew Sewell FIELDING: Dean McMillan

THE TEAM: - Bryce Alewood, Evan Baker, Sean Brogan, Jordan Duncan, Lachlan Hay, Jordan Ivery, Dean McMillan, Andrew Sewell, Adam Smith, Ben Tidswell, Adam Thorogood & Daniel Walsh.

The 10C’s had a great year of cricket with some relatively young boys and five new players we joined together to make a strong team. With 6 wins and 3 losses we really gave the opposition something to think about. We finished the season with a real nail-biter against D La Salle, so close as to be almost a draw, losing by only 4. All the boys progressed well over the year, which was particularly evident in our sundry figures. There was a real improvement in all the boys bowling. Many thanks to Bob our coach and Bruce and Manager and to all the parents, a big thank you for all your encouragement and support. To the boys, thank you for all your efforts in making a really enjoyable season.

BRYCE ALEWOOD: What a terrific 1st year of cricket for Bryce a talented and keen player. Over the season Bryce took 6 wickets for 53 and off the bat an outstanding 93 runs. With his 7 catches and 2 run-outs this completed a fantastic effort from a player who was a real asset to the team

EVAN BAKER: Evan had a truly solid season both with the bat and the ball. His personal best in 2 for 11 in round 8 showing how much he improved over the year. With 43 runs at the bat, Evan certainly has the ability to become a force to be reckoned with.

SEAN BROGAN: Sean is a very consistent player in all areas. Sean was a player who took advice at training and really used it in his game. He was one of our best bowlers taking 6 wickets with his personal best 2 for 6 in round 6. An all round terrific season from an enthusiastic player

31 JORDAN DUNCAN: Showing great talent Jordan took wickets for 36 this season. He was by no means a lesser batsman taking a fantastic 74 runs off the bat. A terrific season for his new player who also showed great enthusiasm in the field taking some great catches. Jordan’s most appreciated effort in the 10c’s was the encouragement he always gave to his team mates

LACHLAN HAY: Lachlan is a confident and relaxed team player. His bowling greatly improved over the season. He finished with a total of 4 wickets. Lachlan is a real asset in the field with a strong and accurate aim. He does a superb job as wicket keeper taking a fantastic run-out in round 10

JORDAN IVERY: Jordan is a great team player. His bowling improved out of sight over the season with a terrific personal best of 2 for 8 in round 8, making a total of 4 wickets. Jordan is a batsman with great guts and determination and has the attitude of a true sportsman.

DEAN McMILLAN: Dean had a bit of a slow start to the season but finished with a bang. A very strong batsman scoring a terrific 72 runs off the bat and only being dismissed on three occasions. A fielder with great ability taking 3 superb catches and a total of 6 wickets showing what a very accomplished player Dean is.

ANDREW SEWELL: Andrew had an excellent season and was a real asset to the team showing talent with the willow to put on 68 runs. Andrew had a great bowling stint taking 5 wickets and his speed and accuracy just kept on getting better. He also showed us he was an alert and keen fielder taking some good catches. A corker of a season for this player

ADAM SMITH: An outstanding batsman. Adam is a very determined and focused player scoring a brilliant 138 runs off the bat this season, with a personal best of 31 n.o. Adam showed improvement in his bowling style taking 4 good wickets. Adam is also an alert fielder taking 2 fine catches and 3 run outs. A terrific effort from a player who loves his cricket.

ADAM THOROUGHGOOD: Adam finished this season with the inspired bowling figures of 5 for 41 with an excellent personal best of 3 for 2 in round 7. Showing confidence in the field and a real talent for wicket keeping Adam has a real feel for the game and was a valued team member. Top effort

BEN TIDSWELL: Ben has a great positive attitude to cricket and it showed this season. A capable batsman Ben helped many times in keeping our runs up taking 2 great run-outs and 3 wickets this season – Ben’s wickets always seemed to come just when we needed them most. He was an enthusiastic and popular member of the 10c’s.

DANIEL WALSH: Another wonderful team player who has progressed well this season taking 4 great wickets. Daniel has a really positive attitude to his cricket, which particularly shows in the effort he puts into all areas of the game. Well played Daniel.

10D TEAM REPORT

AWARD WINNERS - ALLROUNDER: Jared Brown BATSMAN: Mitchell Giles BOWLER: Daniel Dwyer COACH’S: Liam Petrucco FIELDING: Matthew Launt

THE TEAM: - Jared Brown, Jake Downes, Daniel Dwyer, Callum Farmer, Mitchell Giles, Tyrone Kalatzis, Matthew Launt, Daniel Loughran, James Loughran, Sean Nelson, Liam Petrucco & James Wagner.

We started the year with very little experience in our side, as ten out of our twelve boys had never played before. Nevertheless we did well and finished a very creditable second in the competition. As Introductory competitions are determined by “first past the post” we never got the chance to play eventual Premiers, Caringbah Sports in a Final.

32 With this year behind them, the team should be able to build from what they have learnt for next season. Especially with the majority of players still eligible to play under 10 cricket again. As coach my assessment is that every one played their part at some time or other during the season and it was very much a good team effort.

JARROD BROWN: Jarrod gets the “All Rounders” award. In one game he took 4 wickets for 9 runs and this was the best single performance of the season. A good all-rounder and will improve. Needs to think about the need to choose the ball to hit. Scored 29 runs and took 8 wickets. Good effort Jarrod!

JAKE DOWNES: More a bowler than a batsman at this stage, took 3 wickets and will improve as he gets more experience. Tried hard all season. Hang in there Jake it’s not an easy game to master. When batting concentrate on each and every ball.

DANIEL DWYER: He gets the bowling award for his 9 wickets and has potential to become more than a handy bowler once he learns to bowl without looking at his feet. Trust yourself Daniel, keep the ball up and you will get more wickets!

CALLUM FARMER: Did well with the bat but needs to work on his bowling. If Callum learns to keep the ball on the ground he will score a lot more runs. Keep trying Callum! Did well as our back up to the wicketkeeper!

MITCHELL GILES: Gets the batting award for 57 runs. A good effort Mitchell and you were one of our unluckiest bowlers. Has the ability to become a competent all rounder. In the last game of the season against the premiership team, Caringbah Sports he scored a very valuable 18 runs. Work on building on this start next season, Mitchell!

TYRONE KALATZIS: Nineteen runs and four wickets may not sound much but Tyrone worked hard and did his best. A good team effort and to be commended for never giving up. Will do even better next year.

MATTHEW LAUNT: As a first year player Matthew was perhaps a little out of his depth but there was no faulting his keenness and willingness. Will do better next season building on what he learnt this year. I’d call him one of my “greyhounds” for his fielding effort and speed in chase of the ball. Well done Matthew, you get the “Fielding Award”!

DANIEL LOUGHRAN: Daniel is the older of the two brothers in the team and will move up to the under 12-age group next season. With 28 runs and 3 wickets he was one of the many contributors in a team where team effort stood out more so than any individual brilliance. You played strong, did well, Daniel!

JAMES LOUGHRAN: Next year as an under 10 player he should do well. Enjoys chatting to the umpires! I don’t know if this is good or bad but he was always willing to step forward at any time and volunteer. A good team man who will develop in the next year or two.

LIAM PETRUCCO: Liam gets my award, the “Coaches Award”. This is never an easy decision to make but I have chosen Liam for his all round ability and effort throughout the season. He scored 28 runs and took six wickets and was one of our better fielders.

SEAN NELSON: Another team contributor who with 3 wickets and 9 runs did his bit. Showed promise as a keeper and that is important, as good keepers are hard to find. Who knows, maybe Sean is a future Adam Gilchrist!

JAMES WAGENER: James needs another season or two to develop. Needs to work more on getting his front arm up when bowling and follow through on delivery. Always tries and showed some potential when keeping wickets. Keep trying James, You will get there!

I must give a big thank you to the Loughrans for their support in managing and scoring. In particular, Sue, without whose help I would have battled. I also appreciated the support of all the parents throughout a season where we were all learning to know one another and for many, learn a bit about cricket. A special thank you to my co-coach Mitch Durie and his side kick Chris Nelson. They did a great job.

AWARD WINNERS - ALLROUNDER: Ben Jamieson BATSMAN: Alex Jones BOWLER: Aaron Mall COACH’S: Mitchell McLauchlan FIELDING: Chris McMahon

THE TEAM: - Ben Jamieson (Capt), Aaron Mall (V/Capt), Glenn Caukill, Ryan Croom, Alex Jones, Mitchell McLauchlan, Ben McMahon, Chris McMahon, Sam Russell, Chris Sands & Matthew Thompson.

The season could be summed up as a season of missed opportunities. That single that went begging due to hesitation and that dropped catch, allowed a couple of games to slip through our fingers. Had we picked up those two games that we lost by one run and the other by a hand full of runs, would have placed us as worthy opponents against Illawong in the final. This is not to say that the boys did not have a good season of cricket. Far from it, we had the makings of a very good team, with all the boys contributing and improving their cricket skills over the season. Well done guys!

Special thanks to our scorers and score book statistics recorder, Suanne McMahon and Karen Jamieson. Also thanks to all the parents who turned up each week to support the boys.

BEN JAMIESON: This season was Ben’s second year in the 12As and was also captain of the side leading his team by example. Ben’s big contribution to the team this year was his batting strength. Ben scores runs quickly and displays confidence when running between the wickets. Ben punished any bowler who strayed off the line with the ball usually finishing on the boundary. Ben scored an aggregate of 186 runs at an average of 20.67. Ben also made a positive contribution through good wicket keeping allowing minimal sundries. Well done Ben.

AARON MALL: This was Aaron’s first year in the 12As and first year as a representative player, playing 12Cs last year. Aaron is an all round cricketer posing solid batting skills, fast and accurate bowling deliveries, with safe hands taking a total of 5 catches. Off the bat Aaron scored an aggregate of 102 runs with the teams best average of 34. Aaron was the team’s highest wicket taker with 12 wickets, average 7.08 and missed the last game helping out the 14s. Great effort Aaron.

ALEX JONES: This was Alex’s first year in 12As playing 12Cs last year. Alex’s big contribution to the team this year was through a solid performance with the bat. Alex was the team’s 3rd highest run scorer with an aggregate of 94 runs at an average of 13.43. In most innings Alex was able to get his score into double figures. Good performance Alex.

CHRIS MCMAHON: This was Chris’s first year in 12As playing 12Cs last year. Chris took the most number of catches in the team with a total of 9, some of which were quite spectacular. Off the bat Chris scored an aggregate of 78 runs at an average of 9.75, and took 8 wickets at an average of 10.87. A solid all round effort. Great work Chris.

BEN MCMAHON: This was Ben’s first year in 12As playing 12Cs last year. Ben made a valuable contribution with the bat through some confident running between the wickets, making an aggregate of 73 runs at an average of 10.43. Ben’s other strength is his solid performance in the field and safe hands for catching. Well done Ben.

MITCHELL McLAUCHLAN: This was Mitchell’s first year in 12As playing 12Cs last year. On a number of occasions Mitchell opened the batting and finished with a solid performance for the season with an aggregate of 84 runs at an average of 9.33. A solid performance in the field and good bowling, Mitchell was a competitive cricketer this season. Good effort Mitchell.

SAM RUSSELL: This was Sam’s second year in the 12As. Sam showed plenty of enthusiasm and keenness towards his cricket this season with bat, ball and fielding. Sam worked hard for his wickets taking a total of 6 at an average of 32.17 but most importantly, never gave up trying. With 3 catches and an aggregate of 37 runs, average of 7.4. Good job Sam.

CHRIS SANDS: This was Chris’s second year in the 12As. Chris had a steady year with an aggregate off the bat of 41 at an average of 6.83 and took 2 catches. Although Chris only took 2 wickets for the season it does not reflect Chris’s competitive attitude towards his cricket, and I am sure next season will be a different story. Thanks for your efforts Chris. 34 MATTHEW THOMPSON: This was Matt’s second year in the 12As. Matt’s strength is his bowling taking 7 wickets at an average of 21.86, the team’s 3rd highest wicket taker. Matt broke through on a number of occasions when it was needed. Off the bat Mat made an aggregate of 27, average of 6.75. Keep up the good bowling Matt.

GLEN CAUKILL: This was Glen’s first year in the 12As, playing 12Es last year a big jump for Glen and a good performance at this much higher level. Glen was our second opening bowler and troubled the batsmen more than his mother. Took 5 wickets at an average of 28.6 including 10 maidens. Scored an aggregate of 56 off the bat at an average of 11.2 and as a tail end batsman was instrumental in winning one of the close games. Congratulations on your performance Glen.

RYAN CROOM: This was Ryan’s first year in the 12As playing 10As last year. A big step from 10s to 12s and even harder to A grade. Off the bat Ryan scored an aggregate of 16, took 2 catches and 1 wicket. A steady year for Ryan but with this experience under his belt, I am sure a better season next year. Thanks for accepting the challenge this season Ryan and for all your efforts.

On behalf of myself and all the parents, thanks to Brad for coaching the boys this season. Brad has only just left high school, not that much older than the boys he is coaching and he should be admired for his dedication and commitment to junior cricket. Also thanks to Brad’s Mum & Dad for their support during the season, getting Brad to training and the games. And a big thanks to Dean Croaker for helping us in our last game when Aaron played with the 14As. Dean made 7 runs and took 1 wicket, a great help.

AWARD WINNERS - ALLROUNDER: Jason Raper BATSMAN: Joshua Christison BOWLER: Jeffery Walsh COACH’S: Alex Sambuco FIELDING: Eli Bentata

THE TEAM: - Jason Raper (Capt), Kevin Dwyer (V/Capt), Eli Bentata, Joshua Christison, Dean Croaker, Brendan Eccles, Dane Ferguson, Alex Sambuco, Nathan Stephenson, Jeff Walsh & Kristian White.

JASON RAPER: Wicket keeper: Jason had a very good season with the bat and the gloves. He is also a very thinking cricketer and a useful captain who demonstrated he could carry out my instructions without much assistance during the matches. In time, with more opportunities his captaincy skill will improve. A great season Jason. Keep up the good work. Season Figures: 9 Catches, 4 Stumpings, 95 Runs (Average of 13.5)

35 KEVIN DWYER: Kevin was a bit nervous at the start of the season when handed the Vice Captaincy role, but as the season went on, he began to relax and play cricket and also put in a few good suggestions during some of the games. His bowling was right on target and he did his job when it was needed. Keep practicing Kevin, you can only get better. Season Figures: 68 Runs (Average 7.5), 8 Wickets for 85 Runs (Average 10.6) off 30 overs.

ELI BENTATA: Eli had a great season with the ball and his fielding was excellent. He became the “Run out King” of the team. His bowling was excellent, swinging the ball both ways and at a good pace – could definitely be a first change bowler if required to do so. Started the season slowly with the Bat, but near the end picked it up and improved out of sight. Good work Eli. Season Figures: 6 Catches, 26 Runs (Average 3.25), 5 Wickets for 62 Runs (Average 12.4) off 26.3 overs and 4 Run outs.

DANE FERGUSON: Dane’s season got off to a good start. His bowling was excellent and on target. His batting started slowly but picked up halfway through the season. Dane has great technique and is not scared in to take a chance to score runs. Dane also has the promise of being a handy out swing bowler. Great season Dane, keep up the good work. Season Figures: 3 Catches, 51 Runs (Average 6.3), 9 Wickets for 36 Runs (Average 4) off 31 overs – 14 Maidens.

ALEX SAMBUCO: Alex also had a great season with the ball and tried his best with the bat. His ability in both aspects of the game can only get better as he tries his best to improve in every game. Being a leg spin bowler is not the easiest thing to do, but as Alex got further through the season his bowling improved and even got the “googley” turning quite a bit. Don’t stop Alex, leg spinners are hard to come by especially at a young age. Keep on practicing, well done. Season Figures: 17 Runs (Average 3.4), 5 Wickets for 93 Runs (Average 18.6) off 25 overs.

JEFFREY WALSH: Jeff had a good season. He did nothing but try his best in everything he did, He may not have scored many runs this year, but if you wanted him to stay and keep his wicket, he was happy to do just that. His bowling improved as the season went on. It was not unusual for him to get wickets just at the right time, drawing the batsmen out of his crease to force a rash shot. Keep it up Jeff, you did well. Season Figures: 3 Runs (Average .4), 13 Wickets for 104 Runs (Average 8) off 26.3 overs.

JOSHUA CHRISTISION: Josh had an excellent season topping the batting in the side and getting his bowling on track with line, length and pace. His catching and fielding was also terrific. Josh has a good head for the game and I would have no hesitation to put him in a higher grade as I think he would be a great asset to any top side. Fabulous season Josh. Keep that seam upright and you can’t go wrong Season Figures: 8 Catches, 151 Runs (Average 37.7), 7 Wickets for 34 Runs (Average 4.8) off 25 overs.

DEAN CROAKER: Dean had a season that improved from the very first game, he was always trying, giving 100 percent effort each match. His fielding was excellent and also had a good eye for knocking over the stumps with direct hits. Dean has a great arm and is always looking for the ball. He tried his best with his batting, bowling and showed improvement towards the end of the season. Keep it up Dean, well done. Season Figures: 44 Runs (Average 7.3)

BRENDAN ECCLES: Brendan started off slowly, but as the season went on, his game play improved out of sight by the end of the season. It was good to see that we could work together on some of his skills and see improvement after slight adjustments. Brendan keep on practicing, I can see your game play changing all the time. Keep up the good work. Season Figures: 3 Catches, 33 Runs (Average 5.5), 7 Wickets for 62 Runs (Average 8.8) off 26 overs.

KRISTIAN WHITE: Kristian’s season started slowly but with a lot of effort on his part he started to improve out of sight. He started to bowl a lot better and show determination in keeping the improvements happening. His batting also started to show improvement, but we ran out of games. Kristian, you did very well and did not give up. Please keep trying to practice as much as you can. Very well done. Season Figures: 5 Runs (Average .6), 2 Wickets for 72 Runs (Average 36.5) off 13 overs. Congratulations on taking your first wickets.

NATHAN STEPHENSON: Nathan had a great season showing improvements in every part of his game. Batting and bowling was quite good and also showing a lot of keenness in the field and determination to do well no matter what the circumstances are. Nathan, I am very pleased with your game play and the improvements that you have shown this season. Keep it up, well done. Season Figures: 1 Catch, 16 Runs (Average 2), 5 Wickets for 78 Runs (Average 15.6) off 20 Overs.

36 As a footnote from the Coach, I would like to thank our Manager – Debbie Eccles for the great job she had done throughout the season and not to forget the match reports. I would like to thank the parents for attending all the games when they could and making sure that the boys were on time to the games. I would also like to thank the Scorer, Mark Stephenson for the time and effort he has given throughout the season and to the two best sweepers in the country they know who they are…thanks for all your assistance in helping with the pitch to make sure it was safe for the boys to play on each week. And finally, I would also like to thank my wife, Kylie for being there when the scorer’s chair was vacant and also making sure the boys were ready and padded up to bat.

As for the boys of the 12E squad, I would like to thank you for making the season fun and enjoyable. It has been a pleasure to coach such a terrific group of boys. You should all be very proud of yourselves in the way you have played this season. Finishing third is a great accomplishment in any sport and it has been wonderful being a part of it. Thank you again and may I wish you all good luck for next season and if any of you need any help with some one-on-one coaching, please do not hesitate to ask, I would be only too happy to help out.

RUNNERS UP

THE TEAM: - Jay Davis (Capt), Michael Lavallee (V/Capt), Dylan Andrews, Stuart Dibb, James Gardner, Adam Logan, Stewart Lumsden, Chris Moreland, Tim Russell, Cameron Turner & Jonathon Ward.

After the disastrous start to the season with Chris Moreland’s unfortunate accident, then our first match abandoned due to Anzac Oval being unfit to play on, the team settled down and had a successful season making the final where, on the day, Como were the better team and fully deserved their success. The team, with 10 players, had to rely on boys from the 14D’s and 14E’s, Mitchell Ryan, Nathan Bullock, Aaron Mall and Sam Russell 12A’s, and several boys from the 12 B’s. Their support was most appreciated. It was our pleasure to be associated with a team consisting of a pleasant and well behaved group of boys, they were a credit to their parents and the Club. The support we received from our Manager, Peter Lavallee, was great. He did a magnificent job, never complaining, always helping in some way. Paul Davis, Geoff Dibb and Steven Turner also helped.

Harry Robbins

JAY DAVIS: In his first season as skipper led by example, scoring 319 runs at the high average of 53.2 as well as scoring his first century. He also took 9 wickets, capturing the team’s All-rounder Award. Represented Moore Shield.

MICHAEL LAVELLEE: Had another good season, like Jay, scoring his first century, totaling 263 runs at an average of 37.6, winning the team’s Batsman Award. Handy bowler restricting the run rate. Hoping to see Michael back in the Reps next season after taking a break this year.

JAMES GARDNER: A boy new to the club and over the season proved himself to be a promising fast left hand bowler winning the team’s Bowling Award. His best performance was 5 for 21 including a hat trick all clean bowled. Represented Moore Shield.

TIM RUSSELL: Our opening bowler who had the shire’s top batsmen on their toes. A keen and enthusiastic boy, Tim will have two good seasons in the 16’s. A reliable fieldsman that never stopped trying at practice.

37 JONATHON WARD: Honest and reliable. Our opening bowler with a straight line that proved very economical in every match. Another boy that gave his best at training.

STUART DIBB: Took on the difficult task of wicket keeper and opening batsman. He never let the team down, only allowing 33 byes and taking 8 wickets. Also kept one end safe when batting.

DYLAN ANDREWS: Opening batsman, 1st season in the 14’s, shows promise of developing into a handy batsman. His innings of 52 against the Premiers, Como, was an excellent effort.

CAMERON TURNER: Batted 3rd wicket in his first U14 season and on several occasions showed himself to be a promising batsman. His in close fielding was also handy.

ADAM LOGAN: On his efforts this season with his pace bowling he should be one of the leading bowlers in next seasons U14 competition.

STEWART LUMSDEN: A most promising leg spinner with good flight and the ability to bowl a wrong-un. He made the big jump from last season’s 14D team to the 14A’s. He worked hard and showed great improvement over the season worrying the competition’s top batsmen.

CHRIS MORELAND: Chris was sadly missed over the season and it was great to see him playing our last match and showing he has not lost any self-confidence. Next season Chris.

THE TEAM: - Nathan Bullock, Jamie Greenway, Alan Hunter, Sean Jones, Dane Le Ray, Tom McNee, Rhys Mowlam, Liam Phillips, James Punshon, Omar Samad, Matthew Sambuco & Joshua Scott.

A quite successful season, finishing third, considering we only had 10 boys to start with. Due to some help from Matthew Sambuco, bringing in Jamie Greenwell, and Sean Jones, for introducing Nathan Bullock to the side, these 2 extra players made the team more competitive. 38

RHYS MOWLAM: A big improvement from last season with bat and ball. During the season had an unbroken partnership of 102 runs for the 10th wicket with Matthew and followed up with an opening partnership of 100 with Joshua. Also bowled well thru the season taking 6 wickets for 34 runs at avg. 5.7 and 5 catches for the year. Batting Rhys scored 186 runs at 46.5 avg.

MATTHEW SAMBUCO: Coaching Matthew for the 1st time he is a player with a big future. A good all round performance for the year. Scored 61 not out in the partnership of 102 unbroken with Rhys. A consistent swing bowler and our leading wicket taker, 13 wickets at 5.9 avg. bowling 42 overs and conceding only 77 runs, less than 2 runs an over. Taking 4 catches along the way.

JOSHUA SCOTT: 1st year U14’s Josh is very eager to learn and improve his skills. Outstanding fieldsman throwing down the wickets twice with 30 metre throws. Figured in a century partnership with Rhys scoring 40 runs for the innings. Took 4 wickets and 3 catches for the year.

JAMES PUNSHON: James accurate bowling was a big contribution to the success of the side. Taking 8 wickets at an avg. of 15.25 a boy that every side needs. A very good team player.

JAMIE GREENWAY: In his first season of cricket was a very eager at training. Improved thru the season taking 3 wickets in 4 balls against St. Pats. With this season under his belt Jamie should improve even further next season having another year in the 14’s.

NATHAN BULLOCK: Not having played cricket in quite a few years Nathan hits the ball very hard. Even though he played only played 3 matches for the season Nathan scored 108 runs at 36 avg. including the highest score for the side of 65. He was also a handy bowler taking 4 wickets at 13.15 avg.

SEAN JONES: The team joker who thoroughly enjoys his cricket and makes it enjoyable for his whole team mates. Big improvement with the bat scoring 50 runs for the season. Hope to see you next year.

OMAR SAMAD: One of the best spin bowlers in the competition taking 5 wickets for the season at an avg. of 19. Omar is a boy who listens to each word you say. Solid in defence combined with great concentration, he held up an end in some good partnerships. Took the wicket keeping gloves at various stages of the season and took a memorable catch at Grays Point.

LIAM PHILLIPS: Liam also improved his batting from previous seasons scoring 50 runs for the year. One our regular wicket keepers for the season and was very keen and eager. Hope to see you next summer

TOM McNEE: One of the safest pairs of hands in the field took 5 catches mostly fielding at square leg. Enjoys his cricket immensely. Started off opening the batting. Tom is very keen to improve his skills

DANE LERAY: The quietest boy in the side. Good accurate bowling thru the season saw Dane take 6 wickets at 15.7 avg. Saved his best till last batting for 40 minutes to score his highest total and took the “Catch of the Year” in slips.

ALAN HUNTER: The old boy of the team. Attitude to his game has improved out of sight. Took 4 catches for the year. Hope you stick with the U16’s.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Glenda and Roger McNee for scoring thru the season and an extra thank you to Roger for standing in for me when Rhys had to fill in for the 14D’s. To Steve Jones, many thanks for taking on the role of managing the side. To our super sub Alex Sambuco (12E) who took a big step up from the 12’s to help us out in the field. Much Appreciated

The most pleasing factor of the 2000/2001 season was that every boy played when available and enjoyed their cricket. Thanks to Sir Harry for your advice and support.

Having said that however, it is interesting to note that each member of their team was playing their 2nd season of 16’s, whereas we have 5 players who are eligible to contest this competition again next year! I am sure all of the players gained enormous experience and satisfaction as we charged home from nowhere to contest the final.

Further congratulations must go to this fine club in winning the prestigious club championship, the 14D’s, 10A’s and the A1’s premierships and to the 14A’s in reaching the final.

In my first foray into coaching, I was thrilled with our performance in reaching the final and would like to congratulate every member of the team for his effort and commitment. I would also like to thank them for their patience and tolerance as I attempted to guide them throughout the season.

Congratulations to those players who made representative teams this year and equally congratulations are extended to those players who challenged their more fancied teammates and rivals every week.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the many helpers that were there to ensure the boys were at all times well looked after viz.,

Steve Routh the consummate professional in his role as manager. Always reminding me of rules and playing conditions, umpiring every Saturday, tactical advice, opposition player profiles and providing much needed support and encouragement.

Vicki Routh our early season scorer was always there providing SSJCA advice, support and encouragement, croissants and pretzels. A wonderful lady who deserves recognition for the fine work she does for junior cricket in our shire.

Steve Daniels accepted the challenge, dethroning Vicki as our No 1 scorer, a great clubman as we all know. Unfortunately, was unavailable for the last round and final whereby Ron Shepherd took over splendidly. Ryan was no doubt pleased with this, as his dad did not have time to remind him to “ Pitch it up !! “ or “Concentrate Ryan, Concentrate!! “

To all parents thank you for your support and for allowing me to look after your precious darlings. As a father of 4 girls it was certainly a new experience…………do they ever stop eating?

STUART BRANDMAN: Due to injury and an overseas holiday, we unfortunately did not see a lot of this talented cricketer. His prowess in the field was there for all to see and showed signs he has the skills and tenacity to make a fine opening bat. Reads the game well and should be strongly considered to captain the team next season.

BRETT BULLOCK: A loveable giant who will do some real damage when he realises his size and strength. Can destroy any opposition with either bat or ball. A genuine allrounder and clean hitter of the ball who will develop into an exciting middle order bat. Season highlight being off a fast bowler………. der my brain hurts!?!?

PATRICK CHESTERFIELD: The team jester, what an important contribution humour makes to any team. His positive talk and sharp wit both on and off the field were welcome additions. Did not get many opportunities but when he did, showed that he has the skills and is a fine cricketer in his own right. A great team man well respected and liked by his peers. I hope Pat continues playing in the seniors next season. Season highlight that screamer he took at point in the last round……………….a super effort! “ Nothing gets past him when he is at point”

40 MATTHEW DANIELS: Unfortunately, did not receive the opportunities he expected and subsequently left the team before the season concluded. Up until then he was a good contributor helping us to reach the final. It is hoped he will return to the game next year and properly graded is sure to gain the enjoyment he longs for.

BRAIDEN GILBERT: There is no doubt about it, Braiden is a fine allround cricketer. An excellent fieldsman with a great arm, medium pace and now a leg spin bowler & a very good opening bat. When he learns to rotate the strike and to look to dominate the bowlers he will score a truckload of runs. I hope Braiden thinks hard about his role in the team, backs himself and learns to do push-ups!! Won the batting award accumulating 293 runs @ an excellent average of 36.63.

CHRIS MAHONEY: Started the year lacking confidence in his ability despite being a very good player in all facets of the game. Quickly established himself as our no 1 spinner gaining confidence each time that he bowled. Superb effort in the final deserving of better figures. Showed promise with the bat but tended to play back too often, leading to his dismissal on many occasions. Fielded superbly taking several great catches. A deserved winner of the fielding award. Also entertained us with his diving efforts at training………good one Marlin.

BRETT MARTIN: Had trouble with the run ups but when he got it right was the most feared and dangerous fast bowler in the competition. Has a great work ethic putting in at every training session ensuring each of his teammates were ducking and weaving. I have no doubt Brett will be a very good quick provided he maintains a positive attitude, self belief and the mongrel fast bowlers require. Deservedly won the bowling award with 18 scalps @ a cost of just 9.94 each. 13 of which were comprehensively bowled!

TOBY NASH: A fair import was Toby. Started as a backstop but finished as a wicket keeper! When you see him bowl it is no wonder he keeps!! Unorthodox but effective batsman who will score a mountain of runs next season (provided he could keep his protector from falling out from his boxers). Has a great sense of humour and is a real delight to have around. My only advice Toby is “ don’t get lazy on me “

SANJAY PATEL: The team juggler who seemed to have skates on every time he picked up the ball in the field. A quality bat and useful medium pacer who unfortunately didn’t get many chances due mainly to the quality of his teammates. Missed several games and was unable to train which also didn’t help come Saturday’s. Next year when he can concentrate on men’s cricket only will no doubt bring out the best in him.

JASON RADFORD: Does this guy ever stop smiling? A great team man always bowling an impeccable line and length. 18 wickets @ 12.33 each deserving of special praise and was just pipped by Brett on averages. Bear will continue to improve when he learns to bowl with greater variation, as his control and temperament are first rate. Can hit a ball, which is fortunate….. as his pace running between wickets is on par with the “Fridge!” Coaches’ awards are never easy but the “bear” toiled hard all season sharing the most wickets with Brett and was never shy to give the coach some lip. Is able to laugh at himself, which is a wonderful attribute, although one might say, he gets a lot of practice at this!

KEIRAN ROUTH: Always the competitor who gave his all every time he took the field. A more relaxed approach in the future would see him realise his obvious talents. Ran like a rabbit between wickets, which is fine provided his partners, can do the same! A genuine outswing bowler provided the team with great variety. As captain he continually drove his team to ensure maximum effort from all players.

RYAN SHEPHERD: The finest batsman in the competition, missing out only once when he had a brain explosion, running himself out in the final! Scored a mountain of runs dominating every bowler…. even in one game after missing a long hop and breaking his already substantial snos! The team seemed to grow in confidence every time Shep hit his straps. An excellent runner (except in the final) between wickets combining well with Braiden, running many a four due to the slow outfields. Bowled well at times but will need to work much harder at training if he wishes to get bowling opportunities in the future and yes Ryan as Ron would say………Pitch it up! Won the Allrounder’s award by a country mile. When you read the following stats you will understand why. Fielding Most catches with 7 Bowling 7 wickets @ 18.14 Batting 481 runs @ a staggering average of 96.20 6 scores over 50 41 1 score of 100no When you consider the wet season we had which meant the outfields were terribly slow Ryan’s performance was exceptional. Ryan’s season highlights for mine were the following. After breaking his nose he returned to bat scoring 50 plus and then on another occasion when on 43, he unselfishly asked to retire so the other guys could get a bat. Great ticker & a real team man!

I sincerely hope all of you continue playing cricket and get the lifetime of enjoyment and experiences that I have been lucky enough to receive. And remember, your shout for a beer when you turn 18!!

Johnno.

AWARD WINNERS - ALLROUNDER: Ben Cutler BATSMAN: Chris Nelson BOWLER: Ian Mitchell COACH’S: Ryan McLauchlan FIELDING: Sunil Patel

THE TEAM: - Matthew Russell (Capt), Ryan McLauchlan (V/Capt), Ben Cutler, Grant Davis, Sam Dixon, Mitchell Durie, Ashley Logan, Ian Mitchell, Chris Nelson, Matthew Newman, Sunil Patel, Ryan Simons & Chris Ward.

Unfortunately, we were left with the “curse” of the premiership winning 16C team from the previous season, thus the association gave us a B grading and, from the outset, it was always going to be a tough season. To their credit, the lads never once gave up and showed the true Dragon’s spirit as we fought to the end. The attendance at training was inspiring and the attitude at the games was outstanding. Leading from the front was our captain Matt Russell, who always acted professionally and would always bring the best out of his team. With him was vice-captain Ryan McLauchlan whose support for Matt was phenomenal and also led the team to a tight win against Miranda, which helped Engadine secure the club championship. This 3-run victory was probably the highlight of the season, despite the fact we beat Miranda convincingly in the first round. While the batting effort was quite poor, that game saw the best one-day bowling and fielding effort I have ever seen, and, anyone who saw the game would agree it was one of the most exciting finishes you would ever see on a Saturday morning in the Shire. The most satisfying thing to come out of the season is that, except on one occasion, we were competitive in every game and had many chances to win the games, despite being over graded. For those guys coming into men’s, some of your best cricket seasons await you and every one of you has the potential to perform well. To those who have another year in the 16’s, you have all shown that you are capable of something special, and now that you’ve had the experience of such a hard season, this should spur you on. And premiership success is waiting just around the corner. On behalf of Brett Adams and myself I’d like to thank Ian Davis for a marvellous effort as our manager, and to all the parents who came along to support the team. It has been a pleasure to be assistant-coach of this team. The players were:

Mark Mitchell

MATTHEW RUSSELL: Matt showed how a captain should be. His encouragement, professionalism and easy-going nature have made him into one of the finest captain’s in the club. The surprise of the season came when he bowled us to victory in that tight game against Miranda, and showed that his bowling can be quite a potent weapon. Should be looking forward to good season next year in men’s.

RYAN MCLAUCHLAN: Mac’s glove work this year was absolutely outstanding and has improved immensely in recent times. Had a reasonable year with the bat with many solid knocks but will really shine next year in Men’s. His leadership during his one game as captain won Engadine the club championship. A real pleasure to coach.

42 BEN CUTLER: A very solid season with the bat and ball for Ben, taking many teams apart with either pure pace or swashbuckling hitting. Some of his shots, especially down at Corea Rd. put many cars in danger, and his spell in that game against Miranda was the quickest and most fiery spell I’ve ever seen. His all-round performance this season earned him the team’s all-rounder trophy. Well done.

GRANT DAVIS: Grant’s batting this year was very strong. On numerous occasions when survival was the name of the game, Grant would defy the opposition’s attack for many overs with an absolutely flawless defensive technique. His bowling also showed potential when he took a very good wicket and was defied of another by, shall we say, indifferent wicket keeping by the Fridge.

SAM DIXON: The most underrated bowler in the competition. While never with shear pace, his accuracy always got him wickets and very rarely was he ever taken to the cleaners. Bowled the perfect one-day cricket spell with 1 for 4 off 6 overs, which tied Miranda down in that important game. When given the chance, his batting was great. With the form he shows in the nets, there is no reason why Sam couldn’t become a superb all-rounder.

MITCHELL DURIE: Mitchell’s bowling this year went from strength to strength, bowling the spell of his season in that game against Miranda. His batting was also top-notch with many handy knocks in the top order. Next year should be a bumper season for Mitch. One of the best talkers in the field, with many batsman wondering, who was Cowboy, and who was Edgy.

ASHLEY LOGAN: A successful year in all aspects of the game, Ash really does have the potential to be quite a successful cricketer. His swing is very strong and powerful, and most balls would end up over the boundary. His bowling showed major improvement as the season progressed, and could become a vital part in any teams attack. An excellent fielder who was always enthusiastic. A pleasure to coach.

IAN MITCHELL: Next year should be Ian’s best yet, if he sticks purely to spin bowling. This year his leg-spinners bagged him a 5-wicket haul and the team’s bowling award. A tremendous performance considering he didn’t seem to find the ‘groove’ until mid-way through the season. Ian always looked a solid batter, but it took him until the last innings to really show that he also could be an excellent all- rounder, with a very hard-fought 32 not out. Ian is, in my opinion, the finest fielder Engadine has in the junior divisions.

CHRIS NELSON: An excellent year for a very talented player. His power and strength with the bat this season brought him his first half-century and the team’s batting award. His hitting had the taxis coming from near and far. Adding to this, ‘Fridge’ also opened bowling very well with very good swing and accuracy. One of the best talker’s in the field you will ever hear.

MATTHEW NEWMAN: Not a bad season at all for Matt seeing him take many handy wickets. The big surprise was Matt’s lower order batting coming in to provide a bit of resistance while also adding some runs. This aspect of Matt’s game proved crucial in that win over Miranda. Again, next season will be much better, maybe even teaming up with Ian to bamboozle teams for consecutive overs. Hopefully with some coaching, he will learn not to take guard outside leg.

SUNIL PATEL: Sunil is also blessed with having all-round talent. His batting is very solid, and his shots a very elegant, just a masterpiece to watch really. His bowling is also quite handy on his day, but Sunny really does have the potential to be a major part in the top-order of any team. A very fine fielder and has one of the best cricketing brains. A real pleasure to coach.

RYAN SIMONS: This season saw ‘Simmo’ really improve as a high-quality bowler. Coming on first- change in most games, his bowling was very accurate and swung the ball Damien Fleming style. On his day, Ryan’s batting down the order was defiant, frustrating the opposition on numerous occasions when an Engadine innings was almost near the close. His bowling will be a very fine asset in men’s cricket next season.

CHRIS WARD: Chris’s batting style was, on most occasions, textbook. Unfortunately, Chris seemed to lose his wicket just when he seemed to have control of the bowling. His fielding was always a great asset to our team, and will be in any team he plays in. Like his teammates, Chris also has the potential to succeed in the top order of any Dragon’s team.

THE TEAM: - Brett Johnson (Capt), Greg Goodman (V/Capt), Paul Cameron, Blake Cousemacker, Jason Crimlisk, Greg Heffernan, Glenn Hickey, Greg Knowles, Drew Lake, Craig Parsons, Michael Price, Ross Stuart & Mitchell Thompson.

AWARD WINNERS - BATSMAN: Chris Linley BOWLER: Stuart Slack PLAYERS, PLAYER:

THE TEAM: - Stuart Slack (Capt), Roger Grey (V/Capt), Matthew, Battam, Colin Berry, Peter Coman, Adam Davis, Neil Kemmis, Beau Knowles, Chris Linley, Marcus Loxley, Mark Maher, Adam Phillips, Darren Price, Troy Selvage & Paul Waddell.

After winning the B2’s last season we were promoted to A3’s. There were only 7 players remaining from last year’s team, plus some fellows that had previously played with the club. They all showed plenty of talent early on in the nets. The wicket keeper, Colin Berry, didn’t play until after Christmas because of a shoulder injury.

The start of the season was quite good for us, winning the first couple. Chris Linley and Troy Selvage were the shining light with the bat early on and Mark Maker impressed with the ball. Darren Price made a comeback this season after knee problems and basically played all season on one leg. The team’s main problem this year was consistency in all aspects of the game. But, when we had a good day we would probably be the best team.

We ended the season finishing 4th which in the end was a good result considering some of the guys had never played with each other. We won the last game outright which was a great way to finish the season.

Adam Davis finished the season on a good note scoring plenty of runs and taking wickets at regular intervals. For the first time in God knows how many years Paul Waddell didn’t take the most wickets, Wally was always on the spot finishing the season with 18 scalps. Chris Linley was our leading run scorer 248, with myself finishing as the season’s top wicket taker with 22. Good season Lads.

THE TEAM: - Jim Collins (Capt), Allan Lofthouse (V/Capt), Lance Cochran, Damien Collins, Michael Daly, Michael Green, Peter Ince, Darrin Johnstone, Cameron Laird, Brendan Lofthouse, Dane Logan, Daniel Slade, Matthew Whitney, William Wooster & William Ziegler.

The end of the 2000/01 season saw the B5’s finish in 5th place on 49 points, made up of one outright win, two 1st innings wins, one tie (against the eventual competition winners) six 1st innings losses, two outright losses, two duty rounds and the Captains meeting points. While it may seem that it was not a very successful season, victory wise, the whole team enjoyed their cricket to the fullest and were able to maintain a sense of humour in the “low moments” and foremost, never gave the opposition teams an easy game, even though some of the scores did not appear so. What’s more the team upheld the Dragons good name in Senior Cricket with its conduct on and off the field.

Will Wooster was the B5’s most successful all round player with 295 runs @ 24.583 and 24 wickets @ 14.292, however, two other players, Bill Ziegler (265) and Damien Collins (232) were not far behind in the run chase. Will was the only player to achieve the “Magic Ton” (107) in round 8; he also made 68 in round 1. Bill Ziegler (2) Damien Collins (1), Darrin Johnstone (1) and Brendan Lofthouse also achieved very credible 50’s throughout the season, all other players had reasonable scores at some time or other that contributed to the results.

The bowling was where the B5’s main strength arose with Matt Whitney being the most successful taking 35 wickets @ 11.314 (20 bowled and 6 LBW’s) with his left arm medium pace, that at times proved almost unplayable, shown by his 6-8 and 6-29 in round 8 outright win where he totally decimated the Seagull’s batting. Will Wooster with his aforementioned 24 @ 14.292, Damien Collins 19 @ 26.053 and Michael Green (15 @ 27.133) were the other bowlers to take double figure wickets throughout the season. Probably the bowlers were let down by the fielding this season with some pretty easy catches going down at crucial times that could have swung the results our way, however, the 41 catches that were taken did have some remarkable efforts amongst them that made the easy dropped efforts all the more unfathomable.

Maybe if we were graded a bit lower this team of “triers” could have brought home a trophy for the club, it was not through lack of effort they failed in this endeavour, maybe next season will be more successful, but rest assured it will still be FUN.

VICE CAPTAIN – ALLAN LOFTHOUSE

B7 TEAM REPORT Sponsored by: Cosmo Lighting (Carlton)

AWARD WINNERS - BATSMAN: Sean Hall BOWLER: Brett Adams PLAYERS, PLAYER: Sean Hall

THE TEAM: - Brett Adams (Capt), Mark Mitchell (V/Capt), Greg Betts, Keegan Brown, Matthew Carroll, John Clark, Ashley Gurd, Sean Hall, Dean Jones, Sanjay Patel, Graham Price, Ron Shepherd & Jeremy Vickers.

Not a bad season at all, winning 7 from 14. From the outset, our chances for silverware looked good but our lack of at least one more strike bowler and the fact we couldn’t field a complete team despite having an original squad of 15 meant that games we should have won slipped through our fingers. We either didn’t finish off teams after we got a good start, or by our trademark batting collapse after our openers were dismissed. So really, finishing 3rd was an excellent result that we had to work for.

However, there were many great moments to come out of this season that really make playing cricket worthwhile. Some of these moments were: Matt Carroll’s “century”, Hub’s bat-throw, Jeremy’s catch at Sutherland which dislocated his shoulder, John Clark’s impeccable timing in roasting Vickers, Ronny’s 5-for, Sanjay’s 90-odd, Keegan’s umpiring effort in which he gave a batsman out without an appeal from the fielding team, our 8-run victory against St. Pats and our outright win in the final game, just to name a few. Next year will be one to look forward to as us young blokes now know what to expect and we hopefully can string a few more wins together and maybe even have a shot at the premiership. Let’s not get too excited just yet.

Finally, a huge thank you to Bob Price. For many years he has supported the Engadine Dragons Cricket Club with his huge efforts and this year was no exception. His scoring was absolutely flawless and demonstrated on many occasions his very elegant sweep-shot which he pulled out of the closet every now and then when the opportunity presented itself. Also to the young guys who filled in for us on 45 many occasions: Ryan Shepherd, Brett Martin, Ryan McLauchlan & Brett Bullock, thank you for completing our team when we were short.

BRETT “HUB” ADAMS: Leading from the front with 19 wickets @ 17 was Hub. While his tossing was never quite up to scratch, his bowling always looked like getting him us a breakthrough. His batting, compared with his tossing, was at times swashbuckling, putting the youth centre at Sylvania under threat on many occasions. Hub would often combine with Ronny Shepherd to give our scorecard some credibility after one of our collapses. Most of all, an excellent captain who was always a pleasure to play under.

RON “ROCKIN’ RONNY” SHEPHERD: Second highest wicket-taker this season with 16 wickets @ 21, with a best of 5 for 41. Ronny was always an inspiration to us all, the highest class of sportsman, having nothing to do with sledging at anytime. Some of the decisions Ronny copped were heartbreaking but his sportsmanship always prevailed and was a great example. His bowling this year was fantastic, and was unlucky on many occasions not have taken more wickets than he did. Ronny’s batting always looked solid and he never looked like getting out…until he did. A true legend, it will be a huge loss if Ronny doesn’t return next season.

SANJAY “STINGY, PANTHER, LAZIEST 16 YEAR-OLD, BUNGEY” PATEL: The guy with as many nicknames as middle names had an excellent year with bat. Second top scorer with 220 runs @ 20 always gave us a good start to the innings. His fielding, as his name suggests, was panther-like, pouncing from everywhere to take a catch or complete a run-out. While not having a huge year with the ball, next year he should be a valuable asset in our attack. Love your work, Stinge.

SEAN “SKIP” HALL: Our leading run-scorer with 236 runs @ 30, an excellent result for someone in his first year of men’s. Adding to this, his bowling was always fiery as he fulfilled the gap on many occasions as quite a talented all-rounder. An absolutely superb fielder with and excellent arm, Sean really is an accomplished cricketer and the only thing that seems to elude him is a century, which will surely come next season.

GRAHEME “GRA-HE-ME” PRICE: A pretty good season for Graheme with 111 runs. The real surprise was his bowling with Graheme taking some vital wickets with some of the worst balls. Still 5 wickets @ 9 is not a bad return. Graheme is also one of the most athletic fielders ever to grace the cricket field, getting near to and taking some absolute screamers that no one else would have been near to.

ASHLEY “DRUG” GURD: A real pleasure to have in your team, Ash is blessed with a fair amount of all-round talent. With the bat he hit an even 100 for the season and with the ball took 6 wickets @ 20. Some of his slips fielding was marvellous, taking some beautiful-to-watch catches before anyone else had moved. Those who saw Ash in those Gridiron style cricket pants of his haven’t been able to remove that picture from the mind.

MATTHEW “WARNEY” CARROLL: No one who was there on that day will ever forget “that” century of Matt’s. A very special century of 12 (x10) was definitely his highlight with the willow this year. But let’s not forget, “Warney” isn’t called “Warney” for nothing. He bamboozled many batsmen throughout the season without any luck. His 10 wickets @ 24 doesn’t show what Matt should have got. His talking and fielding has improved 200% this season and, with a bit of luck, “Warney” will live up to his nickname as he did in the 16’s, except for the attitude that the real S.K. Warne has.

JOHN “SHAFT McGRATH” CLARK: The smart-alec of the team, who actually let his skills do some of the talking this year. Another one of those surprise packets with the ball, John struck on many vital occasions for a return of 7 wickets @ 8 including 2 vital wickets which won us that close game against St. Pats. John’s batting showed promise on many occasions doing an excellent job of night watchman on one occasion, and throwing the bat near the death for 18 on another. His efforts for keeping Jeremy under control throughout the season were greatly appreciated.

KEEGAN “NO NICKNAME” BROWN: Keegan had quite a successful year, but was one of those bowlers who was unlucky not to get the results he deserved. Like Matt Carroll, Keegan’s 5 wickets @ 94 doesn’t reflect the swing and accuracy Keegan generated. While often asking for a promotion in the batting order, Keegan never really had a chance to prove himself with the willow. His umpiring gave some of the B6 teams some interesting moments to say the least.

GREG “PECKERHEAD” BETTS: The unfortunate title of being the only player in the team this year not to take a wicket. His batting was always solid and seemed to lose his wicket just he was getting settled. Another one in the team who has excellent fielding talents taking some brilliant catches 46 and stopping many certain boundaries. “Pecks” always looked dangerous with the ball and will be a real pocket-rocket next year if given the chance. A great bloke to have in your team.

DEAN “D.J.” JONES: Dean is the most naturally gifted player we have. Unfortunately, he was only available for three games this year, but still amassing 138 runs @ 35 and 4 wickets @ 9. Adding to this, D.J is an absolutely marvellous fielder. So, it was a real shame Deano couldn’t play more games for us and might’ve been able to give us a chance for the final if he was there. Hope you can return next season, Dean.

JEREMY “THAT IDIOT IN THE BRIGHT ORANGE HAT” VICKERS: You won’t hear a better “talker” in the game than Jeremy. Some of his calls were fantastic while others were quite poor. Still, on some occasions, Jeremy let his willow do the talking with a top score of 77 at Gwawley North, giving him a total of 189 @ 19. And for someone who’s bowling was described as making him look like one hell of a good ‘keeper, his 9 wickets @ 13 might suggest otherwise. His finest spell came in the last game and showed that he could be force anywhere in the game, but don’t anyone tell him.

MARK “BIG RED” MITCHELL: As for me, well I’d like to apologise for my poor effort with the bat this year, which really wasn’t up to standard. However, my tossing, as usual, was flawless with a 100% record, which led to an outright victory.

See you next year,
