Assembly 162 Hosts Patronal Feast Day Observance Our Sokol Walking Program Continues To Promote a Healthy Way of Life by Katie Swift Supreme Assistant Physical Directress I am again pleased to report that the participants of our popular Sokol Walking Program did another amazing job in 2012! It seems that our miles are getting better and better every year. In 2012, we have out-walked ourselves by four thousand miles. The total trekked by our walk- ers in 2012 amounted to a grand total of 95,559.1 miles. This was AMAZING! Way to go walkers!! I looked through my records and have found some interesting statistics. 92,607.29 was the to- tal miles trekked by our walkers in 2009. In 2010, the total miles walked totalled 89,815.81 miles. In 2011, our walkers trekked 91,448.75. Certain- ly these annual mile records of recent years are Assembly 162 hosted its annual Patronal Feast Day observance of SS. KIDS’ CORNER “Detský kútik ” March, 2013

Did you ever wonder why Easter is a different time every year? Easter is always on a Sunday, but sometimes it is in March and sometimes in April. By Dr. Michael Kopanic In Western Christianity, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon

after the vernal equinox. Equinox is the term for Detský kútik [dyet-ski ] [koo – teek ] = Kid’s corner the two times of year when the Sun's position March = Marec [maah – rets ] The “r” is trilled. makes day and night of equal length in all parts of the Earth. The vernal equinox usually occurs Kvetná nedeľa Palm Sunday = [Kvet-naah nye-dyeh-lah] literally on March 20 or 21 and marks the beginning of the it means, Blossom Sunday spring season in the Northern Hemisphere. Holy Week = pašiové týždeň [pah-sheo-veh teezh-den] The "ň" is like 'ny' in "canyon." Holy Thursday = Zelený štvrtok [zeh-leh-nee shtver-toke] Literally, What is the significance of the Easter egg? Green Thursday Easter is considered a celebration of things renewed both in life Veľký piatok Good Friday = [Vell–kee pyaah-toke] Literally, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ and in nature as well. Great Friday Some of the secular symbols of Easter, especially the egg, reflect

the celebration of new life through symbolism. Easter = Veľká Noc [Vell – kaah notes ] - Literally, it means „Great Night,“ i.e, when Jesus rose from the dead. Easter Egg Hunts Happy Easter = Veselá veľká noc [ Veh–se–lah vell–kaah

notes ] I am sure that many of you have gone to tra- ditional Easter egg hunts where each egg has candy in it. Last year I attended an unusual Easter egg hunt. The egss were not filled

with candy! All of the eggs were numbered. You had to find eggs with then umbers one through nine. In each egg was a symbol that told a part of Jesus’ life. For example, one egg held a small piece of wood to symbolize the cross. Another egg

had a tiny crown of thorns. At the end you were given a paper to

explain each symbol. This was a great way to remind us that Easter poem is about Jesus and his life.

Transport, Construction and Regional Development. What's making headlines in our ancestral homeland The government has its own problems with Cargo, even with steel production in Kosice in place. These problems are mainly due to the slowdown in economic growth, said the pre- mier. “We’ll discuss other solutions with the transport minister(Jan Pociatek), including a scenario with Cargo losing this important customer,” said Fico. One of the solutions might be the involvement of a strategic partner, while another solution may include measures to be made “within the company,” said Fico, declining to provide any further details for the time being.
