Overview

Come April, come people’s movement for transforming Maharashtra. This past month at VSTF witnessed a great wave of grassroots mobilization, with people from across the board joining the conservation and other on-ground efforts. With Paani Foundation’s Water Cup preparations going on in full-swing, villagers and Fellows participated in Shramdaan activities towards building various watershed structures – and we are excited to share such and more incredible stories of change with you this month.

Another brilliant example of the spirit of volunteering is the start of Rang De Maharashtra in all our districts. Local artists, citizens, school staff (including students) were joined by officials from district administration, Lead Development Partners, including volunteers from urban areas visiting our villages in painting schools and anganwadis. Creating such community-led and driven initiatives is at the core of our vision and we are happy to have taken our first steps towards it.

Our Fellows have consistently demonstrated impactful work, spanning social, cultural and economic development. Along the way, they also enable some ground-breaking work which are nothing short of historic in their nature. One such story is that of Bulumgavhan village in Dharni taluka of Amravati. Our CMRDF Anand Joshi’s efforts brought electricity to their village for the first time since Independence. This was a widely celebrated news, which got recognition from Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with congratulations from Hon. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Anand’s story is that of grit and commitment, which is an inspiration to the entire VSTF family.

In an important step towards empowering the last-mile governance mechanism, the VSTF team facilitated Village Development Plan (VDP) training sessions in Amravati, Aurangabad, Raigad and Chandrapur. The objective of the training was to equip all the Fellows with the tools and skills to develop their VDPs which will be presented during Gram Sabhas to be held on the 1st of May.

This month, the VSTF team, led by our CEO Mr. Ramnath Subramaniam, began a state-wide tour of our villages to review on-ground efforts. In April, they visited villages in Raigad, along with the District Collector Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi, who took an update of the work, made note of the challenges and discussed issues with the local administration. Over the next few months, Mr. Ramnath is scheduled to visit other districts too to ensure accelerated speed of development across the state.

We also welcomed our 6th batch of CM Rural Development Fellows who have joined the transformational workforce, taking our work to 632 villages across 19 districts.

VSTF’s Board of Directors met this month to review its activities so far and to provide inputs on our plan for the upcoming year. We are excited and energized more than ever to take the next leap towards transforming rural Maharashtra!
