LAST WEEK

LAST MEETING - January 17, 2020 – Kristi Crafton: Habitat for Humanity Sixty attended on Friday, including guests Jennie Woods, guest and sister of Marcia Brandt, Bernie Peters, guest of Marty O’Boyle and Amy Lenninger, guest of Josie Seymour. Blue badges were presented to Sara Diericx and Theresa White. Kelly Meyer announced the cancellation of the Special Olympics Skills, due to impending frigid weather and the cancellation of several groups that were scheduled to attend. Jeremy Kaiser has Quad City Storm Hockey tickets for the Febru- ary 1 home game for sale for $20 each. Josie Seymour gave a brief recap of the Valentine event coming up on February 14. Sign ups will begin next week. Kathy Pezley explained her collection of Hawaiian shirts for troops stationed overseas and their children. Patrick Olsen announced the build date for the next group of tricycles at the HDC. Over $13,000 was raised at the auction for this project. It will be Saturday, March 7. Josie Seymour was the sergeant and collected $58. Eric Langan raised a challenge of one dollar per point difference in the Michigan -Iowa basketball game. Ten people took his challenge.

Jan Trimble introduced Kristi with Habitat and said she was the best boss ever! Kristi has been the director of Habitat for Humanity since 2005. They build homes in Scott and Rock Island Counties. They believe everyone deserves an affordable home. They build 4 -6 homes per year and use 2000 -4000 volunteer hours per year. The price of the homes has raised a lot in the past five years. They depend on free or very low -price lots. Many lots are available in Rock Island. Families are selected by their willingness to work and the commitment to give 250 hours of sweat equity. Classes are giv- en so the families can become a successful homeowner. Habitat also has several other divisions. Besides home building they do neighborhood renovations, home repair, build wheelchair ramps and offer quality used home items at ReStore. Kristi said that North Scott Rotary was the first Rotary club in the Quad Cities to make such a large commitment to a habi- tat house. The club gave $15,000 as their 2019 Impact Grant.
