Hey Hentyfarmers!

So much has been happening at Hentyfarm Wines, we have just finished bottling our seventh vintage and are really looking forward to showing you.

As most of you know, it all begins in Henty in ’s Far South West. Relatively untapped for years, our primary mission is to showcase this region’s potential for making European styled, cool-climate wines, perfect for combining with your favourite dishes.

This Spring we are releasing six wines, the most ever! And they have all been hand- made with care in Great Western, Victoria by accomplished winemaker – Justin Purser.

Jono controls the relationship with the wonderful growers in Henty and this year we have taken in more fruit and some new varieties are now available for you to try.

This, our seventh vintage (2015) and again brings and made from grapes cultivated by renowned Henty grower Alastair Taylor. This year we also managed to secure some highly sought after Pinot Meunier fruit and will be releasing a 2015 Hentyfarm Pinot Meunier in the near future. Pinot Meunier is a grape most found in making Champagne, but has a small cult-like following in the form of red table wine. A great example is made by Best’s Wines in Great Western (where Jono works as General Manager) so there is terrific winemaking experience in making this style of wine.

We are also pleased to make available now a small amount of aged Pinot Meunier. Our fantastic grower Alastair Taylor made this wine – 2004 Hentyfarm Pinot Meunier from a parcel of his own fruit and has kept it in his sandstone cellar. We decided to release this wine from Alastair’s cellar to show this un-common variety and the way it ages gracefully.

We were also very lucky this year to receive good quantities of precious Pinot Gris fruit and we are really excited to add a to the range, made from celebrated Drumborg grapes tended carefully by biological grape farmers Jack and Lois. The Drumborg area within Henty has a long reputation for producing amazing Riesling and if you enjoy Riesling, you won’t be disappointed.

The Hentyfarm family is fiercely intent on keeping our production small and handcrafted. The Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir can’t be rushed to market, their refined European style needing more time in bottle to develop and soften before heading out to our supportive friends and some of Australia’s best restaurants and liquor stores.

Despite Hentyfarm’s small beginnings and resolve to make wine for family and friends, we are working hard to stamp the Henty region on Australia’s vast viticultural map.

2015 Hentyfarm Pinot Gris $25 per bottle $135 six pack $275 per dozen Our Hentyfarm Pinot Gris is a story about an amazing vineyard site in Drumborg, Henty. Owned and tended by ‘biological farmers’ Jack & Lois Doevan. They had a terrible time in the beginning with the planting of Pinot Gris, having to re-plant twice back in the nineties. Hentyfarm was lucky to be allocated some of this precious fruit again in 2015. This wine has greta luscious fruit on the front palate which transforms through to a clean crisp finish with the help from a splash of Riesling in the winemaking process.

2015 Hentyfarm Riesling $25 per bottle $135 six pack $275 per dozen We have been waiting for some time to be able to release our first Riesling at Hentyfarm. The small area within the Henty region called Drumborg has been producing some of Australia’s finest Riesling for almost 30 years. In 2015, we were allocated our first batch of Riesling fruit from Jack & Lois Doevan’s amazing Drumborg site. We have kept the Hentyfarm Riesling style consistent with our philosophy, with a European, Alsace region style front palate of fruit and freshness before a crisp finish of racy acidity.

2015 Hentyfarm TriBeCa $25 per bottle $135 six pack $275 per dozen This wine is an artisan, barrel fermented blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay. This blended white wine is a purposeful nod to great Alsace producer Marcel Deiss who produces field blend white styles using similar varieties. The name TriBeCa is used in reference to the small precinct in New York City to describe the use of the three vineyards which form a Triangle Below Condah in Henty. The tiny amounts of TriBeCa will be ready for delivery in November 2015 and has the unique benefit of the three varietals matured in an older French oak cask.

2013 Hentyfarm Chardonnay $35 per bottle $192 six pack $360 per dozen At Hentyfarm, we started with Chardonnay and truly believe in the style of Chardonnay that comes from this region. Our Chardonnay style is perfect for those who love finesse and minerality. This wine is made from fruit which is carefully hand- picked from our block within Alastair Taylor’s award winning vineyard in Heywood, Henty. The wine is then carefully tended by Justin with minimal intervention, with a portion matured in older French oak casks.

2013 Hentyfarm Pinot Noir $35 per bottle $192 six pack $360 per dozen We feel our Pinot Noir perfectly represents the region. Subtle flavours with a hint of cherry and grainy herbaceousness balanced against fine tannins. We treat our Pinot Noir gently from start to finish, hand picking from our carefully chosen block with Alastair Taylor’s meticulously maintained vineyard. The wine is then partially whole- bunch fermented to build those great flavours into the wine.

2004 Hentyfarm Pinot Meunier $35 per bottle $192 six pack $360 per dozen

This wine is a special look at how a wine can improve and develop with age. One of our growers, Alastair Taylor made this wine himself from a small parcel of his Pinot Meunier fruit in 2004. This variety is well known in Champagne, and is more commonly used in Sparkling wine production here in Australia. It does however make for a beguiling and really delicious wine with slight similarity to Pinot Noir, but with a middle palate that is distinctly different. We could only secure a small amount, so if you would like to try please hurry.
