Maybe now we will see some progress. Board member Marcus Gower has been floating the idea of a Sister City relationship with Portland, Oregon, USA. It seems residents of Portland have asked for this relationship, because they are HI PETER GLIDDEN HERE considered to be the rose capital of Oregon and they have noticed that we are known as Rosetown Te Awamutu. The Board has asked that the idea be investigated further. We had an extremely interesting presentation from our new marketing and communications manager. Brian Aspin gave the Board an overview of his new team, their priorities and the desire for consultation as an intended way of working. The Board gave feedback and ideas and look forward to working with this new department to further promote events and activities in our area. We have some outstanding events going on in Te Awamutu, Kihikihi and Kakepuku which could be promoted more to entice folk to come and visit and stay in our area. Because most of these events are run by volunteers on tight budgets, there has not been enough time to think about the promotion of our area and what else visitors might like to do while they are here. We frequently get letters from residents asking INNOVA MUDGEAR TYRES us to do something about speeding cars and situations that should have been reported to the police in the first instance. +GST Te Awamutu Police have a good working ONLY relationship both with Council and the Board and, if $$333333 you have reported any offences to them, something can be done should the problem require a co- ordinated approach. For this process to be activated the Police need your complaint first. The new temporary seats are in place in Alexandra Street. What we want you to do is give us your views on whether they are in the right place. We will then make a good decision on placing the permanent seating when the upgrade of the street happens. We particularly want to hear from our senior citizens, disabled, and family users to make sure we get it right. The Board is again trying to get the agapanthus removed from around our pedestrian crossings to enhance safety, both for foot and road traffic. Visibility is an issue when the plants are at full height and doesn’t it look ugly when the flower heads are chopped off to reduce the height? What are they growing for if not for their flowers? We know the upgrade is coming soon but this issue needs to be addressed before the new growing season for reasons of safety. Please remember your Board is here to represent you and your community.
